The Walking Thread

This is how I got into walking. I started in my late teens. It really helped me release stress and process things that were happening. I find after a day at work or dealing with the current family crisis (It seems like we are being bombarded the last couple of years) that walking helps me release the frustration and energy and I can walk as fast or as slow as I need to to suit my soul.

Today the weather did not cooperate. ☹️ Gray skies of rain and cold temps again. This spring is just as bad as the past winter. Hoping tomorrow will be much better. It has been a stressful week and I am exhausted and I really need to move.

I had some college friends who insisted we get out walking when the weather wasn't awful. It carried over into a couple of my post grad years, especially after I let my gym membership at the time lapse. I think this is also why music is a must for me. I know seriously competitive people listen to nothing or podcasts/books because music makes for an inconsistent tempo/cadence but music helps boost those therapeutic benefits.

Sorry about your weather. We had torrential rain today but thankfully, it came in hours after my walk. Hopefully, you'll get into a better and more consistent pattern soon.

Happy Saturday!!!

It’s muggy and slippery out there but got in 9.27 miles. I found met up with an owl pretty early on. I also got cheered on by a soccer coach near the ball fields, like I was in a race. Passed a lady I know from school a couple times…rare that I see people who know me in the real world 😂 vs just walking. Oh… and I got to stress walk a bit because DDs new phone won’t charge via the port. She forgot about wireless charging and that her car can do that. It’s a temporary fix but I really don’t want to be troubleshooting her phone issues during my miles. At least I got my miles in pretty quickly as I get to take the doggo to the vet in about an hour.

*I swear, those first two are different pictures.

Wow!! - I love owls! What lucky pics 📸

I had to be really careful with this one. Normally, I spot them in the trees. They still usually fly to higher branches when that occurs but only once have I had accidental contact. I was taking out the trash in the dark and one was quietly perched in a low hanging limb. I felt the wing tip hit my hair and saw it fly up to the street light. A big owl on the ground is more likely to feel a greater threat level. So, after stopping and observing, I decided to take a big stride forward (still about 12-15 feet away). I figured a big movement would make it instantly want to fly off and have it happen while I was still a safe distance away. If I baby stepped or walked too slowly, I might have been too close when it decided to flee. Either way, I love seeing them. I went most of my life having never seen or heard an owl in the wild until moving up to this burb.

I've said it before but I envy your mountainous landscape. Yes, I love my forest, but I have always been so moved by mountain landscapes. Love all of the pics!
So out my front door are two ATV wide mountain trails... one I did 10 years ago dawn...it slowly elevates... the other.. most popular here is telegraph pass .. never did it because you have to come down and my genetics hips won't allow it

And Oregon has one loop trail at Clear lake that is flat and fun and the only one I know but has no mountain view because of the forest

And then the aggressive loop of Pamela lake...PCT... and skyline... most scenic and geological changes

Sounds lovely!

TiggerTigger, I ❤️ the owl pics! Very cool. I haven't been up close to one for years. When DH was driving his own rig, he went out one morning to find one sleeping between the rig and trailer. It stayed for hours just watching and napping before flying off.

BEAUTIFUL DAY TODAY! Sunshine 😎 and upper 70s! So wonderful to be outside and moving. Starting tomorrow rain in the forecast for 5 days straight. We are so waterlogged. Got my 3 miles in. I have been trying to capture the greener parts of my route, so much of it is brown and dead. I can't wait for the fields to be worked, the crops to grow, and the trees to get leaves. I am envious of those of you who are well into spring and have thriving plants.

You may be getting the rain that has had us swamped all afternoon and evening. At least you were able to get in a walk today. Weather sounds great!

Sorry… I realized that I never posted. I really drained myself earlier. I set out to do 15.5-17… hoping I could make it to 17. I came close and if I had planned better or been of clearer mind towards the end, I would have made it. My legs and feet had it in me and I felt like my energy was there, but my thirst was overwhelming.

I forgot to clean my main bottles so i went out with less water than normal. I also tried different fuel. I had been more worried about the fuel because I thought the one park had a bottle filling area but I was wrong and was way past the point of having any stores around me to buy something. I wound up getting pretty dehydrated. The energy gummies were also a miss. I was legitimately hungry by mile 8 and had several instances of getting a stitch in my side. I made it 16.29 miles by the time I got home. Had I been more with it, logic would have guided me to get a quick drink and head right back out to make up that fraction of a mile to formally hit 17. Almost like home was a water station. It wasn't until an hour later that this occurred to me. Oh well. 16.29 was still an accomplishment and my pace was still really good for taking it fairly casual and going that long. I got in a very casual 9+ mile unwind on my recumbent stationary bike and then went to the gym for upper body day. I also wore the new ASICS today and found that they do not slip in wet conditions. Maybe it's time I start making a move away from Brooks?

Didn't take a ton of pics as I didn't want to be out forever but I saw my new spirit animal early on. I moved him out of the road. I also saw a super cool moth later on.
