The Walking Dead on AMC

So what did the guards die of? It seems unlikely that both would have died of natural causes in the same timeframe. They had no bites and there was no evidence of apparent scratches.

They could have been holed up in there and starved (there were lots of empty food containers outside that building). They could have died from some kind of blunt injury. But that was Shane's point - these guys had no bites or scratches, but they were walkers anyway.

I think there's enough evidence on the show now to let the cat out of the bag on this one - everyone is infected and they will come back as a walker when they die (unless there is a traumatic brain injury). You can get bit and die or you can die of natural causes and you will still be a walker. Rick knows this (he was told by the guy at the CDC) and that's why he shot those guys in the bar thought the head. Shane pondered last night on the two guards who had no visible injuries and wondered how they became walkers. Rick knew.

Sophia could have died from a number of causes and would have been a walker anyway.

There really is no other explanation for the mass amount of walkers on the planet in such a short time. In the chaos, many people died, all of them came back as walkers.

This would also explain how the man that hanged himself earlier in the season (next to the tent) turned into the hanging zombie.

I'm thinking they committed suicide. They both ingested poisons after seeing what was going on. Beth felt that way. She didnt want to be gutted. Is it possible the guards had the same idea?

Great post. This makes a lot of sense.

In the comic book, a bite from a zombie doesn't make you a zombie, a bite from a zombie gives you a nasty infection that will kill you (or the bite will do more serious injuries and kill you) It is dying that makes you a zombie.

Could someone else explain what happens in next weeks preview? I missed that.

It's this that really made me start to put those pieces together. When Shane was looking at the guards and made that comment, the posters who noted that the comic series held true to this came to mind. And since Rick seemed to know this by shooting those guys in the head, it makes sense.

Of course, this show is full of surprises and I understand that they aren't following the comics all that closely, so who knows? :confused3

I've thought that was what Jenner whispered to Rick for a long time, and that probably those guards took pills to kill themselves and came back... BUT, doesn't that mean Rick is a real idiot for not telling people about this?

Sure, he might be afraid of their reaction, but anyone on that supposedly "safe" farm could die (or in Beth's case, kill themselves), turn, and wreak havoc on the place. If he's so concerned about keeping Carl and Lori safe, it doesn't seem like a very smart thing to do to keep it to himself.

And is anyone else already imagining the season finale? My thought is that Rick and Shane are going to have it out again, Rick is going to end up somehow killing Shane in the struggle. And then Shane will reanimate, and, to keep it closer to the comics, Carl will end up pulling the trigger and taking him out. That would be a GREAT ending (though I would really miss the Shane element... he can be a jerk but he brings a lot of excitement to the series).

I understand that the tv series is not exactly following the comics, but for those of us who don't read the comics, PLEASE, no spoliers. :flower3:

I agree with the bold. If that is what he was told (and it would explain how Jenner chose to end it..there was no chance he would reanimate and come back a walker if he was dust) I think Rick could be putting them at greater risk by saying nothing as there could be situations/areas...etc that they are not aware of, what could happen when a loved one passes naturally and them not knowing they will reanimate..etc.

Anyone know why there are so few episodes? Can't believe only 3 left already..:confused3

If he told them there would be no story.

That's not a spoiler! That's just my speculation. I've been way wrong on so many things, I thought Beth was going to turn and kill everyone on the farm :) But I think it was mentioned earlier in this thread that they've strayed away from the comics, since in the comics Shane dies in one of the first books. That's obviously not what has happened in the show.

Last night we watched Sunday's episode. We love the Talking Dead also. It's brilliant marketing... to just talk about the show and get psyched up for the next episode! They don't really give much away, just highlight things you might have missed, and give you things to think about.

My DH and I loved some of the shots in this week's episode - the zombie sandwich, where Rick shot through the second zombie's head to get the third one, and you see the gun through the top of the head... OMG! Also, the zombie speed bump! Randall's neck duct taped to the headrest - lol. The zombie "kills" kind of remind me of a Quentin Tarantino movie.

DH really thought Rick was going to shoot Shane in the leg, and leave him to the walkers, to get away. Of course, that wouldn't be good for the story, long term. But, the look on Shane's face when Rick was driving away... like, "He's really going to leave?!"

Did anyone else notice that one of the producers is Gale Ann Hurd? She produced Terminator 1 and 2, two of the best movies ever!

Yes it is. That's the due date for my first grandbaby. :yay::yay

Congrats on the grandbaby!!! I have 2 myself. Spend time spoiling them rotten, send them home when you are finished! The best of both worlds:thumbsup2

Well one thing I can say for this series is it sure does give my mind a lot to dream about at night! Except now I've progressed from being chased by walkers to becoming one - sort of! Apparently in my dream, the virus mutates and I am half human/half walker. So I still protected my son, who was still alive! :lmao:

I must have missed this, because I only saw the two guards as being dead on the ground. Did they re-animate to become walkers? They looked like they'd been dead for a while, too.
