Hawaii is a VERY long flight. We had to layover in Atlanta, then flew straight out from there and to give you an idea....we had 2 meals and a snack on that flight! :faint:

and did I mention that experience was my VERY FIRST one? Thankfully we had that little "hop" over to Atlanta so I could get a feel for flying before that long one. But still....

I flew from Philadelphia to San Francisco, got in late at night and my flight to Hawaii was in the morning so I had a hotel room and then back to the airport for the morning flight. It worked out well because the flight from Philly to San Fran was almost exactly as long as the flight from San Fran to Hawaii so having an overnight break was nice!!!!

Yes, it's a no-brainer!!! Just do it!!!!!

Ok, seriously, if you can say yes to the following, then DVC is prob right for you:

- do you want/need the extra space/room and luxuries of a deluxe resort? (i.e, if you a perfectly ok with value b/c a room is just someplace to sleep, then maybe DVC is not right -- you are paying more but getting more...)

- do you plan to go to WDW at least once every 3 years if not sooner?

- can you afford the initial cost...plus the costs of trips every 3 years or less? (tickets, air, gas, food, souvenirs, etc)

- can you plan your vacations, esp 11 months to 7 months in advance? (DVC works best if you can plan in advance ... it's not meant for the 'let's go next weekend crowd')

- are you a planner? You'll have to keep track of your points, pay the annual dues, research the best places to go on/off DVC property

I haven't heard that you need an in-state referral...that one is new to me...but I'd be glad to refer you if that still gets you the $500 (I'm in Virginia and my parents are Pennsylvania if that helps at all).

Did you join the "DVC Talk" yahoo group yet? It's like DIS but on email and only on DVC topics (part of the All Ears Yahoo groups).

For us, we struggled with DVC prior to purchasing. Each day was yes it's going to be great; no, it's too expensive, etc. Once we bought and esp once we saw the quality of the suites, we were sold and now can't imagine going someplace else.

AKV is a great resort. We own some points there (65). I may need to sell my SSR points and purchase at the Contemporary...:

OH, this is adorably cute!!!!

Thanks Marshay:goodvibes
I'm finally back on the Dis! It has been a busy week! I'm trying to play catch up a little :

Carla - I love the term Dis Shoulder: SO TRUE!

Love - DO IT! DVC was the best decision we EVER made!!! :: Plus that deal sounds awesome!

Marshay - Glad you are feeling well :

Sharky - That backpack is so cute! I just saw them at the Disney store this week! The party sounds fun on Saturday...will you be taking a camera?

Hi to everyone! I didn't read back very far :upsidedow : If I've missed something can someone let me know!

We had a fun week with my Mom and then my cousin brought her kids to visit yesterday and we went to the Children's Museum. Today is cleaning and trying to get back to normal!

Miss You All! :grouphug:

There ya are... Glad you had a nice visit. We missed ya:hug:

Thanks.

DS not feeling himself. No fever, but just blah. He has to go, and his tummy hurts and he refuses to go and sit on the toilet at the moment.

So, not sure if there will be a party tmorrow night. We will see. IT does not start until 5:15pm tomorrow night. So, maybe this will pass by morning:wizard:

Thanks Alice is awful cute too!

Thanks Chele:goodvibes

160 points for next year starting 5/09. The total cost for 160 points is $16,640... but Disney is giving you $1280 to add to your down payment of $500. Plus they are giving you 160 "developer" points that can be used immediately. So basically you an get a free trip out of it (sans park tix of course). PLUS they are giving you a $500 gift card if you are referred by a member. So up front we'd have to pay $500. We can roll closing costs into the amt. financed if we want or pay that up front. That is $325. Then there are dues and fees which add up to $750/yr but they are waived for the first year, I guess. Dude said our monthly payment would be $202. I don't know if that is with or without the dues/fees. I need to get that clarified.

Make sense? Probably not. :

 Not so much. I had him until I mentioned the $202 a month. Also, he is just not completely sold on the whole aspect of DVC and the fact that it eventually expires.

He agreed that we would look into it further..... a start at least.

I have this mixed feeling of being afraid to do it and being afraid not to. I don't want to get into it and then feel strapped BUT at the same time, I don't want to pass up a deal that may never be offered again.

You Explained it well:thumbsup2

Having a son I can totally relate to the hungry thundering herd. And I only have one. He is 12 today, my baby is growing up. Feed your hungry sweety's. I figure what I will do to Scotty is slip in the visit to check out the DVC stands and stuff at Disneyland while we are there.:goodvibes
\

Happy Bday to your son:woohoo:

well that's cuz you are housing 2 little ones! :goodvibes

ooh cool...I got my daily yesterday----at least I thought.....now I'm so :scared: because I don't have my credit yet!! : did you get yours??

I would just :faint: if I lost out on my bonus just because of some glitch!!!

I got an error message too!

who's Wesley? :lmao:

I did not even notice it said that

Yeppers, I got it, but not til after 1:30

Did you get yours? I hope so:goodvibes

 I got a tie in the quiz.

I couldn't do the character one either. I've done the princess one before and it came back with Ariel.

Anyway~ nice combo, huh? :

You are part Jafar. "How many times do I have to kill you boy?" You just want to be big and powerful... Is that so much to ask? I mean, you deserve it.

You are part Lady Tremaine. You're the evil stepmother little girls have nightmares about. Hooray for you, who helped kids learn to love their birth parents and do everything possible to avoid stepparents. Next time, though, be careful not to get in between a girl and her dreams.

That is too funny:rotfl:

What a nice DH!

God forbid! I already two teenagers. Just think I have three hormonal kids. Aren't I just the luckiest person ever?:

I meant to quote Cheri earlier..that is funny you got a tie too:laughing:

: Geez I go and close on our new house, move (while fighting a nasty viral thing), have the kids start school (year round), lose internet service, get internet service turned on and come back here, find out you all moved too & get totally lost again
I think I need to get the Cliff Notes, a clue or something.

Hey Tink,

How was the closing? Did it go smoothly? Hope you are feeling better soon.

Well, we decied instead of restarting our pretrip every month:laughing: , we would create a new chat thread, hence DIS LAND:thumbsup2

I will start our pre trip on the 22nd or day after, in AUgust, after our trip is paid in full:woohoo:

For now, just hang out and have fun:cool1:

Today is a day for me to travel down memory lane. I have been reading a thread a friend of my DH and I started on a forum he visits while I was sick last year. I should have stock in kleenex. To say that it is hitting me hard is an understatement.

Aww!!!! Sometimes memory lane has some bitter sweet memories!!!!

About closing --- :headache:
We were supposed to close on Wed. and start moving in that afternoon. Well the seller sat on her behind and didn't get the repairs finished till Tues. afternoon and since we were doing a VA loan the appraiser had to go out and make sure the repairs were done & get their report written and turned in to the lawyer by noon if we were to close the next day. That didn't happen and the next available time the lawyer had for us to close was Friday morning. So our realtor ( knowing that DH had requested leave time a month ago for us to move and had people lined up to help us on Thursday) asked the selling agent if we could still get the keys on Weds afternoon and start moving in on Thurs morning. Well long story short (yeah I know too late) seller was still moving out by the time we got there Thurs. morning for the walk thru  said they would be done with in an hour. So we went home and packed a trailer up with boxes and came back 3 hrs later and they were still finishing up :headache: They left 30 mins later and we went in.............................:scared1: OMG it was a disgusting mess. We spent a good 2 hrs vacuuming up dog hair ( it even was stuck on the baseboards) and what not, there were spider egg sacs in the kitchen cabinets & the ice dispenser had mold and crap in it (we bought a new fridge the next morning).
Let's just say it's been a very tiring experience and I'm glad we are finally done moving in.
Now is the fun part....................Unpacking :scared:

What a grueling experience! Hey, unpacking can be fun sometimes...that is, if you are able to take your time with it. You can reorganize. :goodvibes

We unpacked too quickly....my DH is a little nutty when it comes to that stuff. I wanted to take it easy and find a place for everything as I went along, but he just wouldn't have it. It stinks cuz we never truly have gotten organized in our house and we've been in it a year and a half. :rotfl2:

OMG!!! I hope since you got in early and hadn't closed yet, that you brought that all up at closing and asked for a cleaning fee and price of a new refrigerator!!! that's awful!!!!

Hi Ladies...sorry I haven't been on much. Crazy here.

Trying to take the kids to see a High School Musical play put on by the local High School (Did that make sense?). Wish me luck. They just love High School Musical!

Have a great weekend!:thumbsup2

You poor thing. I must be a naive person because I never fail to be amazed at how awful people can be. But you wanted a new fridge for the new house anyway right?:goodvibes The unpacking will be fun for the kids. Seeing toys that they suddenly have "forgotten" that they had.

I belong to the middle of the road group because although I like to take it slow because it can feel like you are never organized otherwise and on the otherhand I want it over with!

OMG!!! I hope since you got in early and hadn't closed yet, that you brought that all up at closing and asked for a cleaning fee and price of a new refrigerator!!! that's awful!!!!

I thought about that myself. I would be tempted to take the costs out of closing.

I would have been fuming and they would have been hearing about it at the closing:headache:

Glad all done now....How are the kids liking the new house?

Have fun

You, too:goodvibes

By that time we were just sick and tired of the whole mess we just wanted to get the closing over with.
We are getting a new dishwasher too in a week or two. It looks like it came with the house when it was built 20 yrs ago. This purchase was already decided before we moved in so it's not a surprise.
We went to the local scratch and dent place to get the fridge. Good deal and you can't see the small dent unless you are really looking for it. Going back there for the dishwasher too.

Kids are happy with their rooms. They are much bigger than the ones they had on base and DD is ready for us to paint her room pink so it's a pink princess room  :cutie:

I still haven't seen HSM....should I? :confused3

Nah, don't think we would enjoy it

Maybe if we were drunk, then it might be fun to make fun of:laughing:

It is something I would have watched as a pre teen....cute for that generation or younger:goodvibes

I haven't seen it but my daughters both say yuck! That you aren't missing a thing.

:thumbsup2

Pink oh my. That should be fun. You need to get the pink paint from Home Depot so you can get a Disney pink to make it even more "princessy!"

Kind of like Rocky Horror Picture Show. Fun, but much more fun with a couple of drinks in you.:goodvibes

We usually go once a year and he likes to stay onsite although at Disneyland you don't really need to. So if he thinks we will save money maybe.....

Based on the layout of DL, it's probably not as important to be on-site...but if you stay on-site all the time anyway...who knows? maybe it would work out.

That is the attractive thing about resales... no 160 point minimum. I'd love to go every year but my DH is an every other year kinda guy. So really we don't need 160 points.

I am seeing all the resorts on the resale site! I was suprised to see AKV especially. I'm also seeing OKW WITH the 15 year extension! Okay... you just decided to add 15 years (and it wasn't cheap!) and now you are selling? :confused3 I guess you just never know.

Thank you so much for all your thoughts on the subject though! I really appreciate it!

No prob! Good luck in your decision. You can always rent points from someone to check it all out for yourself first.

Today is a day for me to travel down memory lane. I have been reading a thread a friend of my DH and I started on a forum he visits while I was sick last year. I should have stock in kleenex. To say that it is hitting me hard is an understatement.
