The Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Owners & Lovers Group - 3.0

Well, I never actually drink coffee in the room anyway so it doesn't matter either way to me. I was just commenting that if people want them, it's an easy switch.

I don't want them gutting the kitchens. But they could definitely gut the bathrooms.

I’m pretty sure most of the problems are with the lack of a bathroom refurb and that pointing out things like microwaves, keurig, and shower heads (when they did they in others) is to illustrate how bare bones they went here.

100% I don't even drink coffee lol, but I would have appreciated a nice rain shower head and I definitely wish they would have fully renovated the bathroom and sink areas.

Not sure why everyone is dying to have a Keurig. Those things are the biggest polluters on the planet. 2.5 Billion of those stupid cops in the landfill every year. Even the guy that invented it has said he wishes he never did. They should be illegal.

I mean I don't particularly care about keurigs either. I don't drink coffee. Only 1 member of my party drinks coffee, so keurig can be handy to get that person coffee versus brewing a bigger pot that will then be wasted.

🛏️✨ Why Did the Villas at Grand Californian Refurbishment Fall So Short?

What was expected to be a full hard goods refurb left many DVC Members asking: “Wait… that’s it?”

We've done a room tour and also ranked it the worst refurb in recent memory. Now, Ryan Chung is breaking down the how and why—from budget breakdowns to what was (and wasn’t) updated inside those VGC Villas.

💸 Was there enough money?
🔧 Was it really a hard goods refurb?
📊 How does it compare to BLT and BRV?

“it does worry me that they may have mixed all of the funds together and spent most of the money on the hotel side. This would be a misuse of the Capital Reserve funds, which are paid for by DVC owners at VGC and should never be used on the hotel side except in cases where there is shared infrastructure,“

🤬

Time to lawyer up…..

You need to read the weasel-words in the review before getting worked up.

"They may have..." -- just guessing here, I have no knowledge of what really happened.
"This would be..." -- this would be bad in an alternate universe.

If we want to throw around words like "weasel" I will do the same. I feel that DVC weaseled away our dues.

You don't have to be in agreement with their analysis, but I appreciate the time spent on writing the article and for looking through the financials. I appreciate them sharing on their media platform, maybe it will aide in getting DVC's attention since clearly owner complaints aren't working. If you are an owner and are upset and haven't emailed yet please email DVC to let them know their feelings especially after seeing this article.

Obviously it's speculation it isn't an official from Disney writing the article. Is this surprising to you or something?

Are you an owner? And if so, are you concerned about where your VGC dues went in this refurb?

This wouldn’t be an issue if there was transparency and communication from a board/management team who is supposed to be acting as fiduciaries and looking after our financial interests.

They can choose to:

1) Be silent in the face of overwhelming criticism and create an information vacuum.

2) Communicate with owners prior to the annual meeting with details about the refurbishment and what they expect the future schedule to look like.

They have chosen option 1.

The trust has now been broken and they need to fix it or prepare to deal with angry and litigious owners.

I didn't think of the blog so much as a review as much as it is a breakdown of what information is available out there on the refurb. There are a lot of gaps of information though that have not been explained, so some speculation occurred. But it wasn't all speculation that DVC did wrong, I also said that there could be a logical explanation - such as the funds being used for a structural issue that would have eaten up a lot of the Capital Funds. The problem is DVC hasn't come out to explain what happened yet. I sure hope they do at the annual meeting, we deserve an answer.

It all seems very confusing. A refurb two years late, and now this. I attempted to escalate and asked to speak with someone higher up; at which point I was put on hold and Disney directly told me my enquiry has hit a dead end, so they're not offering up information to owners. They seemed deliberate in this. I was informed management have read my email.

This doesn't look good and automatically raises questions like "what are they hiding?" which isn't helpful for Disney. I am not ready to speculate they've mismanaged funds because I deal in facts, but I would appreciate, and think it ethically responsible, to communicate to owners how and why their funds have been spent/not spent in this manner. Inform your customers and provide a coherent rationale. Seems like customer de-escalation 101.

Ultimately, I think it is going to come down to an assertive member attending the condo meeting to hold Disney accountable.

Anyone up for that?

The problem is for most they have to take time out of their busy lives, presumably take time off work, pay for a flight and travel to attend.

Also I will add highly unlikely that they can even get a room at their home resort with their points to have a place to stay to attend said meeting. The whole thing is spectacularly ludacris.

Leaving today after staying for three nights in 2 bedrooms dedicated. I purchased a resale last year and this was my first visit. As all agree, the location was the best. We were the first guests lined up in front of gate on one of our park days :rolleyes1 And nothing couldn't beat it for lunch break and nap time at the room on such a hot day like yesterday while in DCA.

But the interior was a bit disappointing. Light was too dark. Shower was old and hot water was not hot, especially during peak time. Seems like water tank capacity issue? Hope refurbished sooner than later.

Please write a note to the DVC executives mentioned above with your comments.

Sadly, your room was already "refurbished" and likely won't see anymore changes for at least 7 years.
