The Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Owners & Lovers Group - 3.0

@AstroBlasters, since you’ve stayed at VGC and VDH in the last few months, which one was your preference (given the current state of VGC rooms)? I strongly prefer the grand (I’ve never stayed on the villa side though), but am waffling because I keep reading drastically different opinions on the state of the rooms. Part of me thinks I should use this chance to give VDH a try, but I’m worried I’ll be sad I’m not at VGC.
I see people saying how horrible the VGC rooms are condition wise and I was expecting it to be real bad, it is an old room yes but I don’t think they are bad enough to justify staying at VDH instead if both are an option. I was actually less happy with the condition of my VDH room back in April than in VGC in September. The shower door in my VDH room would not stay shut amoung other things.

Thank you! I know some people hate the regular hotel side rooms too, but I like them! I do think I’ll be happy just being at VGC.

My family is vgc or bust. I tried to reason for vdh, but the distance is too great for them, lol. Once they tasted the vgc life, we rarely go back to hyatt place or residence inn anymore
Tried real hard to not buy VDH but availability at VGC just wasn’t enough. If I couldn’t use a credit card to buy VDH direct we would have passed and not bought. I’m still die hard VGC and will always choose there over VDH if it’s available even if the refurb doesn’t happen for years

VGC’s location and lobby always win over VDH. Stayed at VGC for a couple nights in Sept for OBB. I just wished they would just hurry up and start the returb already!
VDH is still new and shiny and I love all things shiny 😅 now we have enough points for 1-bedroom so I am happy.

Noticed new signage and a podium by the lobby stained glass window this morning.

Also , the main security line into downtown area had a “no bags no wheels” lane today before park opening. Along with the regular lines. They did not check room keys this a.m.

I like that they now have 3 security lines that way as well.

Different DT-D security experience today - they asked to see hotel keys or reservation dates, guard said because of early entry. Also , there was not a “no bags no wheels “ line. The line was much shorter so maybe those depend on which EE park? Yesterday was DL and guard said line had looped back to the lobby by the time they opened. More people may be at the CA entrance by Napa this morning. I’ve found it is quicker to go thru DD to front entrance on CA EE days.

We’ve started to consider just starting every day at DCA for the private entrance by the VGC wing and can hop over to DLand at 11am.
