The Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Owners & Lovers Group - 3.0

My son's district gets 2 and a half days off for a "fall break" typically. I wonder if other people get longer breaks. Ours is just a couple days for teachers since earlier in the week there are conferences in the evenings.

I haven't considered traveling during that time because it's usually around Columbus Day, which my son doesn't get off, but I always assume the crowds in the parks could be bad. I do miss Disneyland when it's decorated for Fall though! We haven't been there at that time of year since 2010 (before we had a child.) We'll likely wait until he's graduated before doing it again though.

Don't have kids yet but the plan is to change that within the next year or two. DH doesn't like the idea of pulling kids out of school in early December but it's when I most like to do to the parks in either coast. I'm hoping to change his mind by the time it'll matter, lol, because Florida summers especially are unbearable
You can pull that in elementary school, but if they go to a rigorous school system that really doesn’t fly starting in about 7th grade.

Up until and including gr. 7, I was willing to pull my kids out of school but now that they are in high school I'm far less willing to do this! So - we are going to Florida in the peak of summer heat :D

We pulled our son out of school for 3 days at the end of October for our trip and got scolded by his teacher for only informing the school and not her because had she known she would have given him assignments to do.

He was 4 and in TK. 🤣
Yikes, she sounds serious!

Have you VGC peeps seen the rundown of what's coming to Disneyland for the 70th? I'm so excited for Paint the Night, the return of Wondrous Journeys, and to see a new World of Color. We usually only go once every 1.5-2 years since we're on the East Coast (go to WDW in between), but I think this will be enough to help me convince DH that we gotta go twice in 2026 😍

Also, Magic Happens is my favorite parade/parade song ever, I watch it at least twice per trip. I'll be thrilled if they run this in the day concurrently with Paint the Night!

Yes! Really looking forward to it!

Even at a not-especially-rigorous public school with a bright child, we're finding it to be much harder to miss a week in 4th grade than it was in 2nd/3rd grade. It's not just that they are learning fundamental math skills but they are taught in a way that is not intuitive to us and she needs to be able to do them the way the school wants.

I am a VGC/DLR peep and this may be a hot take but I am sad they are bringing PTN instead of MSEP. I would have been fine with both, but I don't think PTN is anywhere near as appropriate for a milestone anniversary and the Owl City song is too whiny for my taste and gets stuck in my head just thinking about it now, I bet my kids will love it though. Even hotter take: I like Mickey's Mix Magic even more than Wondrous Journeys (though I'm not suggesting it for a milestone anniversary, lol). I wish they'd either gone with something new or further back in the vault (or a mix of various shows through the years)... Wondrous Journeys feels a bit like phoning it in to me-- but I also know I'm spoiled as a local and the good news is that it means I don't need to camp out on Main Street and can take advantage of low crowds instead.

Maybe they are saving MSEP for the 75th? That feels like a bigger anniversary year to me.

I highly recommend Disneyland for summer trips. It's hot...but nothing like WDW heat!

I've said it before and I'll say it again....a bonus of having a kiddo with extra needs who gets their own curriculum. Easy to pull him out of school. I hope it will still be easy when he's in HS. But time will tell, I guess. He'll be in what they call the "Life Skills" program starting next year (middle school.)

We won't be there until December so I don't think we'll see any of the 70th stuff. I would love to see Paint the Night. But unfortunately, our son doesn't tolerate long waits so staking out a spot for parades and fireworks just isn't an option for us. I wish they had some kind of DAS area or something but that would never happen. So yeah....we haven't really watched parades, shows, or fireworks much in the last decade.

I see what you are saying but am also bummed it would mean we’re unlikely to see it before 2030, at which point my kids will be well into their teens. They saw the most recent version of it in 2021(?) but may not remember it well— that’s so different from the millennial experience of catching it each year we went.

Some smoke coming off this post!

If I didn’t have nearly 3000 posts and several hundred DVC points, people would probably assume that I was just trolling—but what can I say? I love Mickey’s Mix Magic. If we could get it on Apple Music, our family would listen to it on every drive to DLR.
