The Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Owners & Lovers Group - 3.0

I’m on the 5th floor. How new is this reburbishment that disboards doesn’t have pics yet?

Did the one bedroom always have two bathroom? Last time we stayed here we were in a studio so I don’t know and am curious.

I took a few pics. Let me see if I can post them. Is there something specific you want pics of?

If you have any others, please share!

Personally, I don't think this will be the 100% finished product. The lack of artwork on the Murphy (and lack of artwork, in general) is a pretty big giveaway, IMO. They likely needed to stick this guest somewhere and figured this room is partly done...so that's "good enough."

The murphy beds at VDH don't have artwork when they are up.

Why would they put carpet in first and then come back and do the major renovations after… it doesn’t usually work like that… they could come in and hang up art… but it’s not likely they will do more then that…

Seriously?! I guess I've never paid much attention to VDH so I'll have to go look at some pics. How ugly!

I have no idea. Lack of materials? Messed up scheduling? It's not hard to put plastic down on carpet if they had to, I guess.

Yes, if this is the 100% finished product, that's a problem. But I'm going to wait it out and see what happens, I guess.

I don’t have anything to add in explanation, but why would @NVDISFamily be told they can’t share pics of the new refurbishment by their sources if guests now have access to the newly refurbished rooms anyway? Something isn’t adding up.
Those were shared with me a few days ago while others were reporting that the elevator in our wing was not allowing access to the floors and that viewing patio was closed. I’m going to guess that that is no longer the case. I’m overall aligned with many of the concerns but I also have enough to slow me down a bit and say there is some support for this remodel to not be close to done.

Why give them a grace period? I’m going to ask them what’s going on now. If they have a good explanation then great. They are less likely to fix it if you wait… if there is nothing to worry about then they should have a decent explanation.

I’m not willing to give them the benefit of the doubt any more. I think this is the referb. They have clearly been getting cheaper and cheaper with the referbs. Newer stuff like VDH is falling apart already. I even noticed on boulder ridge that they recycled a lot more then normal, but at least they still got updated bathrooms.

Hey, go for it. We need people to be our hero and dig. Let us know what you are told. Short sellers serve a purpose to look for the “bad news” others don’t want to hear. And if you compile a mailing list be ready to share it…. I’m sure we’ll join you soon if this sticks as the full gut.

The only response that may work is your dues will stay flat for the next 20 years……. Still not sure if cracked vanity tops would be worth that.

Why would you expect that? It’s such a useful and obviously logical feature that has never made me wonder “***?!?” 🤣
Hey, our rooms have those extra bathrooms. This allows the adults in that room to lock the door and “maximize their vacation experience” in whatever way is best for them….. I’m guessing to some people (likely small percentage) this is an enhancement to that goal….. :)

Personally, I think since it is the smallest DVC in terms of rooms, they needed to get a room ready for occupancy. Since soft goods are quicker to redo, I think the same contractor doing flooring is going to continue into the hotel side to do their refresh. Every contractor wants to get their part done ASAP so they can move on to the next and DVC can't keep the room empty while waiting for plumbing/electrical to catch up.

Even though I haven’t stayed at Grand Cal before, this seems pretty disappointing. Worse than other recent refurbs like Boulder Ridge refurb?

IMO, that's because it's not done yet. The Jacuzzi tub is the biggest giveaway since DVC has been replacing all of those for soaker tubs. This refurb won't follow traditional DVC timelines since there are so few rooms at 100% occupancy.

There is so much other artwork in the room it isn't really needed.

I suppose. I'm just thinking about our room at BRV. I love the artwork on the murphy bed. It's so whimsical and fun.

Wait....are you implying the BRV refurb was NOT good? Because those rooms are amazing, IMO.

So tell me if this is correct....

VGC opened in 2009.
Soft good refresh was around 2016.
First full refurbishment was due in 2023?

There is artwork when you pull the Murphy bed down. There is not artwork on the wood when it is up.

I’m probably not the best to opine on GCV since this is only my second stay at GCV and I have no idea what you all are talking about, but I am in a refurbished room and I think it looks very nice. I was amazed when I walked in. Everything is clean. I like the floors. The appliances all look new.
It is pretty clear that the tile floor of the kitchen is not new, but I’m okay with that. It does stick out a bit though.

The tub doesn’t look new. It does have jets, which kind of surprised me since those are so hard to keep clean.

Here are more pics. I tried to get photos requested but I may have missed some requests. I’m here for a few more days so I can check out what people want to see and take pictures.
