The Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Owners & Lovers Group - 3.0

Thanks Lori Chandler Tanner said I could post her pics here. I think these refurbs are only half done personally. Hoping for better lighting and some things look untouched yet so I’m guessing since it’s such a small dvc they are doing it in stages. But agreed weird to do carpet first :).

I'm pretty convinced these aren't done. I have a hard time believing they'd keep the Pinocchio border when they switched to Bambi in the living room. But I guess stranger things have happened.

I actually don't mind the current cabinets so I would be fine with those staying. But some upgraded tile in the kitchen and bathroom would be good.

And as others have said, better lighting.

Also would be surprised if they keep the same headboards on the beds.

The cabinets are fine… they need new counters and the bathrooms definitely need some work. The tubs and showers are pretty out of date and will also start to have grime and mold issues if they let it go to long.

I’m also hoping for some lighting and wall art similar to what the hotel rooms got…. I’m cool with them reusing cabinets and door… they probably need fresh stain and hardware though.

Let’s hope this isn’t the final product… I really like the Murphy bed art

Obsessed with the Bambi art, the new carpeting, and of course the murphy beds! Not going to throw a fit about all those upgrades! Thank you to those posting pics! 🤩 Our next staycation isn’t until early September 🫠

It's weird to me to do some of the refurb and not all. Great to have a bit of a refresh but those jetted tubs have to go.

First of all, a big THANK YOU for taking the time to take these pictures and for posting them on the board.

I will repost some of my pictures from late last year as an example that a lot of the room seems to be untouched.

The dinette upholstery is definitely updated and the cushions replaced (looks to be the cushions I saw a worker carrying when I was there Jan 25) but yeah so far a little underwhelming.

I liked the look of the cabinetry in the kitchen and bathrooms but they were all clearly showing their age.

I'm also in the camp that it's too early for a full-blown meltdown right now. Looks like most of the work done so far could be done without specialized contractors. From our last stay in October, the kitchen, bathrooms, and lighting probably needed the most work but you are going to need plumbers, electricians, etc for those projects.

VDH does not.
It actually does for some rooms at VDH.
The studios have like etchings on the Murphy beds. The duo studios are like jungle book painting right on the wood. But the Murphy in the 1-2 bedrooms living room are blank.

Thanks for the correction. I completely didn't remember the etchings from our stay last year.

ETA: I will add that Saratoga Springs does not have artwork in the studios while the murphy bed is up.....I knew we stayed somewhere that was like that.

While we're on the topic of murphy bed artwork, I can confirm from a recent stay in a 2 BR at HH that they have a framed piece on their murphy beds (might be new from the recent refurbishment). It was problematic, though, as the bottom screws were completely stripped out already and it nearly fell off when pulling the bed down until maintenance came and fixed it.

So are we rioting or not?
Haha. Sharpening the pitchforks so we are ready but with optimistic thoughts that they are not done yet :). Usually they do a big write up in Disney Files and show a new refurb in all its glory. I can’t imagine they aren’t going to totally redo the bathrooms and likely wall off the 1-2 bedroom primary bathroom peekaboos and add in a backsplash like they’ve done elsewhere.

I hope they don’t completely redo the bathroom…. I doubt they would replace it with the same quality of materials….

Personally I'd have no expectations that it isn't done other than perhaps an art piece or two. It would be quite unusual to piecemeal a refurb with bathroom refurb done later etc and I can't think of another refurb that was done in stages. A single piece of furniture or artwork or lamps is about the only thing I can recall being done to complete a refurb after rooms were reopened. If they were to change out some plumbing fixtures I guess that could happen but I would not expect tile work etc.
I'm OK with it all as long as they did do necessary repairs on cabinetry. Admittedly a bit disappointed about the kitchen floor which I never thought was a good fit with the rest of the decor. The bathroom tile was and still is a great choice. Concerns about mold and mildew can and should be about cleaning or if necessary replacing grout and caulk, not full rip and replace.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
