The Vatican Has Updated the Seven Deadly Sins

Totally off topic, but I seem to have found some people who might know this:

What does an alcoholic do if he is catholic? I assume the priest would know of the member's issue and would offer grape juice?

I would think they could just refrain from the wine and just receive the bread. Only one is necessary and some Churches only distribute the bread.

I've never heard of any Church giving grape juice instead of wine.

Refrain. I have rarely been to a Catholic service where the blood was offered to the "audience"

If you die with that sin unrepented, then you go to Hell-at least as far as we know. Now, I've said many times on this board that I believe the decision to send anyone to Hell belongs to God alone, so anything we humans come up with is mere conjecture. However, it makes sense to me that someone who harbors enough hatred and anger in them to kill someone and feels no remorse for that act wouldn't be getting a fast track to Heaven. Whether they ever get there or not would be up to God.

Would you have to confess your sins to a priest, or could you just ask God directly for repentance?

"Mortal" sins

And more sin "rules" from the Vatican.

God doesn't rank sin and Jesus died for all sin anyway. We need to accept Jesus :) , not phony legalistic nonsense from the Vatican. :snooty:

Mocking should be a deadly sin!

Is Mocking venial and Snarking mortal? Or vice versa? I keep forgetting. I think if I have to choose one I'll keep snarking, so I hope that's the lesser.

Nobody's asking non-Catholics to believe anything. But thanks for the Christian charity and goodwill that just oozes from your posts!

:) :woohoo: Just spreading the good news that Jesus = Salvation, not the Vatican Rules.

I know I'm gonna get smacked for this (what else is new?), but I've done a walking tour of Vatican City (Rome), and 'Obscene Riches' euqalling -SIN- somehow seems a teeenie bit hypocritical....

I dunno... the Pope looks like he's living well...

:surfweb:

I just knew this thread was doomed to be an opportunity for non-Catholics to make their digs.

I can just feel the love here.

HMMMMM...I cant be the only Catholic who believes this huh? I dont go to confession :scared1: I eat meat on Fridays and I ate meat on Ash Wednesday:scared1: . I dont think im doomed to hell because of any of this. I believe in God and Jesus, thats what counts in the long run

My point EXACTLY! Do as I say don't do as I do! :sad2:

Ain't it the truth?

No Joe, you weren't "just spreading the good news". You were attacking and insulting your fellow Christians. Spend some time in the Bible and note the number of times Christians are called upon to love and encourage each other, even those they have doctrinal differences with.

EXACTLY!!!! But don't dare try to criticize the, uumm, never mind!!!

If you were to drink the entire cup of communion wine, would you blow higher than 0.0 on a BAC test? :confused3

It is wine.

No, I was stating the fact that the church often uses merlot in its communion rites. I wasn't mocking anyone that believes in the symbolism involved.

The wine is NOT 'symbolic' at all when used as communion in the Catholic church.

And, again, I was raised Catholic, so I'm aware of what the church states. But the reality is that it is wine you are drinking, not blood.
You failed cathecism? Didnt you.

Sorry, my friend, but it may taste like wine, and smell like wine and it might even get me drunk if I took enough of it-but once it's consecreated TO ME and others who believe it is no longer the Merlot you can buy at the liquor store. It has been elementally changed.
:thumbsup2

You werent paying attention. And people at church during a Mass are not considered an "audience"

Former Altar boy here, copying from the internet.

"Orthodox and Roman Catholics believe that in the Eucharist the bread and wine are actually transformed objectively, and become in a real sense the body and blood of Christ; and that it is therefore theologically incorrect to refer to them, after consecration, just as bread and wine or even just as holy bread and wine. The consecrated elements retain the forms of bread and wine, but are in reality the actual body and blood of Christ."

This process is called "Transubstantiation and is the change of the substance of bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ occurring in the Eucharist according to the teaching of some Christian Churches, including the Roman Catholic Church."

Sister Mary Clara would be proud of me today!!!!:yay:

But I posted this while slothing!

'Obscene riches': I never thought I'd see the day when Oprah would go to Hell. Good thing she's a Southern Baptist or Methodist. In her church, God will still let her into heaven.

Am I the only one who sees the irony in the Catholic Church considering 'obscene riches' as a deadly sin?...............:confused3

Well, in the eyes of the Catholic Church, if they don't own those riches, then it IS a sin. :p

Doctrinal?

It's insulting to God (and unloving to the brethren) to say that the death of God's Son on the cross wasn't quite good enough.

All sin was forgiven, the need for any penance whatsover removed, and the need for some so-called final cleansing like "Pergatory" destroyed when Jesus died on that cross. When God looks at those who have accepted His Son's death on the cross, He sees NO sin at all.

What do some Catholics say when someone asks about going to heaven -- well maybe, well if you have no "mortal" sins unconfessed, well if your loved ones pray you out of Pergatory, well if you done enough works, well, well well. :confused3 That's good news? :confused3

The Bible says accept what Jesus did on the cross and confess Him as Lord and Savior + NOTHING :thumbsup2 and salvation is yours!!! :woohoo:  :goodvibes It's a GIFT -- bought and completely paid for by Jesus :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

God is NOT concerned about sin anymore regarding our right-standing with Him. Jesus died for ALL sin, and all who accept what Jesus did are put in right-standing with God. Amen.

Wow. Seven more reasons to go to Hell. *sigh* This day has just gone from bad to worse...:sad2:

Are you born again? Because I was raised Roman Catholic, and you better believe we had to repent for our sins. We went to confession and were given penance for our sins. You don't just get a free ride because you "believe".
