The Vatican Has Updated the Seven Deadly Sins

What about

Trolling ?

Posting under an alias?

Considering the Catholic Church gives out small dosages of drugs at every single Mass (umm...wine does contain alcohol, right?), you'd think they'd want to be a little more specific about that one, at least. :lmao:

It is not bread and wine but the body and blood of Christ.

I find it interesting that the Catholic Church lists pedophilia.

Now, that's rich. Pot, kettle...

Batman is SO going to Heaven.
OK, that was hilarious :rotfl:

If you're a Catholic, wouldn't all sins technically be deadly (without being saved by Christ)? I guess, I don't see the point.

They are trying and only don't when they are made to come clean, and I am sure most will go unknown, still covered up ...

Kathee

Well, now at least it's confirmed by the Vatican that these unrepentant pedophiles and those that assisted them by their silence will be burning in Hell.

Ok, let me see if I can do as good a job as Sr Roberta. Older Catholics reading along-remember the milk bottle??

There are two classifications of sins: Mortal and Venial

With Mortal sin, the grace of Christ received in baptism is totally wiped out. In order to commit such a sin, it must be a serious issue-like those listed-you must fully consent to doing it and you must know that it is a mortal sin. ( Sister drew a milk bottle full of black liquid-the bottle was our soul, the black fluid was sin. )

Venial Sins are the sins we all commit every day. They do reduce the level of grace in our souls, but they are not concious things. We don't think about them, we commit them without much concious thought or choice. An angry response to a driver that cuts you off, an unkind word about a co-worker, a swear word that comes out as the OJ gets spilled on the counter. You can't add up venial sins to get a mortal sin, but over time, commiting many venial sins without even a thought makes the travel into mortal sin easier. (Sister's milk bottle is now only partially black)

Just making sure I have this right, you can't go to heaven if you've committed a mortal sin? Sorry for my ignorance.

No...it's wine. No magic tricks involved. I've tasted wine, and I've tasted the "blood of christ"...which is remarkably like a pretty bad merlot. :teeth:

It is the blood of Christ. If you do not believe it then you are not to take communion in the Catholic Church.

I'm confused. Are these replacement sins? Can I now lust and be envious to my heart's content? Or are these just seven more deadly sins? Because if so, I've got a hard enough time avoiding 7 of them...no way will I stand for 14.

If you die with that sin unrepented, then you go to Hell-at least as far as we know. Now, I've said many times on this board that I believe the decision to send anyone to Hell belongs to God alone, so anything we humans come up with is mere conjecture. However, it makes sense to me that someone who harbors enough hatred and anger in them to kill someone and feels no remorse for that act wouldn't be getting a fast track to Heaven. Whether they ever get there or not would be up to God.

Soooo, that would be the church who simply transferred the pedophile priests from one parish to another instead of either getting them help or otherwise keeping them away from unsuspecting families who go to priests for help?

I would have preferred that the church take a strong stand on the issue from the start instead of sweeping it under the carpet.

So would every Catholic I've ever come in contact with-including the good Priests I have had the pleasure to know.

The only way I was able to stay in the Church was knowing that the good and holy Priests outnumbered the bad, and that the acts of men, no matter how evil, do not change the goodness of God.

I'm on the record more than once saying that only God can decide who goes to Hell, but I'm really hoping He's made a special place for those who did these things and especially for those who knew and did NOTHING to help.

I admire your faith.
