The Vaccine Discussion Thread

I don’t think all the people that don’t want the vaccine are anti vaxxers. But it would not surprise me if all anti vaxxers don’t want the covid vaccine. I should have also said that any mandates/legislation may need to wait until full approval (not emergency) for the covid vaccine are final.
Anti- vaxxers don’t want any vaccines so of course they don’t want the Covid vaccine. Most are proud of being labeled anti-Vaxxers. They have very strong convictions, but they are a very low minority. I do get tired of hearing the 30 to 40% that refuse the covid vaccine labeled as anti-vaxxers.

Yes, and you're going to lose the business of a large portion of the population that is against vaccine passports. My guess is a lot of small business owners would be against this too.

Yeah, if it is not required by the state or health department they aren't going to bother. Especially if the numbers are small. People are going to have a rude awakening when they realize that non-vaccinated people are going to be just as free as the vaccinated.

Vaccinal passports? :duck:

The US government has already said we aren't doing this. Even Europe has said they aren't doing this. So there may be a few small countries that might but I highly doubt they will make this a requirement. There isn't going to be an incentive when the spread is so minimal.

I have not read any posts on here where unvaccinated people are making fun of people getting the vaccine. It’s always the other way around. Your post is an example of that.
The county I live in is one disparaging FB comment after another on the department of health site. This forum and thread isn’t the center of the discussion, by a long shot.
My post said the unvaccinated will reap the benefits of our hard work, whether we like it or not. I’m not making fun of anyone, but I am angry it will take longer to get where we actually need to be because theories about this vaccine got way off the rails.

Sorry if I gave that impression. I was thinking of the long tail on getting most Americans vaccinated. I think the non anti vaxxers are waiting for full approval and more data on the safety of the vaccine.

With the CDC’s wording today that activity can be normal when everyone around you is vaccinated, it certainly seems they believe a FULLY vaccinated ship (not the 95/98 rule - sorry kids and DCL) would be a mostly mask-free vacation.

If DCL went 12+ fully vaccinated hard stop (they won’t), they could probably drop masks before the parks. This guidance is for the vaccinated, whether the defiant want to believe it or not. Disney isn’t going to fully drop masks (they may modify some rules) “for the vaccinated” and have unmasked parents pushing around Paxton, who’s 5 and obviously not vaccinated, masked and in a stroller. At least I hope they wouldn’t.

Let’s assume vaccines continue working, and we get to 70-75% of the total population. At that point, the 25-30% unvaccinated will reap the benefits of all the hard work put in. They’ll still make fun of us, and say the pandemic ended without them needing to be sheep, but oh well. My life will be back to normal then and I’ll enjoy my Whistle Pig Old Fashioned at Meridian.

Biden even just said in his press conference that there isn't going to be checking of who has been vaccinated or not for this rule. Now he wasn't speaking directly about cruise ships so they may have that policy for a little while but I doubt it will last forever. Furthermore he said that unvaccinated individuals will be asked to keep masking but that is for their own good and for the good of other unvaccinated individuals. So clearly the CDC doesn't think that vaccinated individuals need to be segregated from unvaccinated individuals.

This return to normal is moving along quickly and I don't see Disney holding on to a mask policy for more than a month or so definitely for outdoors but more likely for both indoors and outdoors. Let's see what Universal & Sea World do and then Disney will follow behind.

They would if they want to protect themselves and their employees from any undue risk of being exposed to someone with the virus.

I understand people not wanting to wear a mask but wearing one along with social distancing has proven to lower your risk of contracting the disease. If a business has a policy to wear one..............I will if I want to enter as a customer.

DCL has a policy of washing hands and using wipes prior to entering their restaurants and buffet lines in an effort to curb colds and viruses.................is anyone opposed to this requirement? how many ignore the policy by DCL and dine with dirty hands?

What is the risk though if spread is very low and everyone who wants a vaccine has an opportunity to take one? There really is no risk at that point. Have a person sign a waiver if your that concerned as a business owner. I think a lot of you have really crazy ideas about what businesses focus on. When COVID is out of the news cycle no one is going to care.

There will not be any mandate or legislation that says adults need to be vaccinated. The government is not interested in this at this time as evidenced by them saying no to a vaccine passport. They have been very clear about this.

Yep - normal is coming. Of course we aren’t segregating people. The CDC threw the baby out with the bath water and said “have at it.” At least we have some protection that should keep the US being decimated the way India is right now.

Problem is spread isn’t low yet. Getting there, but about double where we ought to be.

There are a LOT of reasons not to take the vaccine and they aren't all from misinformation. How about all the vaccinated people are taking advantage of all of us who have had COVID and have immunity that are bolstering the overall herd immunity. And we did it by being sick.

I agree. I expect this to be more like the flu vaccine for adults. Some professions may require it (employees in nursing home/hospitals/military). I am hopeful it is required for attending schools/colleges for children/young adults. This would be similar to other vaccinations like measles/meningitis.

Everyone thinks that kids have to be vaccinated to go to public schools, my SIL has continually refused to vaccinate her kids, and the school permits them to attend without issue.

No one has died in 6 years as a result of her decision.

Not sure how you can state that there is no risk to business employees from unvaccinated people not wearing masks??? You do realize there were nearly 36,000 new cases of covid just yesterday in the USA and that 843 people died!!! If I own a business, masks are required and I might would not allow those not vaccinated in my place of business if that were allowed.

Not sure how it is where you are but Florida is busy and restaurants, hotels and theme parks are busier than ever. Id be willing to turn some folks away to keep my employees safe.

Do you really think like that? Reap the benefits of your hard work? What did you do, wear a mask, order carryout? The cases were dropping significantly even before 25% of this country was vaccinated, and you make it sound like you stormed the beaches of Normandy because you went thru a drive through.
Actually I busted my rump and literally turned off a few people languishing with the effects of the disease, while they died alone. I spent nights away from my family. My boys developed a bit of anxiety about whether dad would get the “bad flu” while I worked. We modified just about every aspect of our lives, but still managed to enjoy ourselves as much as possible. I signed up for it, so it wasn’t a draft situation like Normandy. So, yeah, hard work. Now people can’t be bothered to make an appointment and get a well-vetted shot, and it angers me.

I’m not sure what hard work your referring to.

Do you own a business?

If your‘re a healthcare worker then you know not all healthcare employees , and first responders around the country have chosen to be vaccinated.
I appreciate your service, but I don’t understand the anger.

Time will tell, but I think attorneys and insurance carriers are going to be the driving factor if private businesses require vaccinations. (Yes I realize some states have outlawed this - but we will see what the courts say). They are going to consider risk and liability and advise their clients accordingly.
