The Vaccine Discussion Thread

What symptoms are you looking for? Cough, fever, lost of taste or smell? How about small bowel obstructions, altered mental status, or weakness? The "symptoms you didn't know what to look for" are typical symptoms. There are atypical symptoms, mild symptoms, and asymptomatic carriers. There are also people who won't report mild symptoms or take Tylenol for their fever, "because I paid for this trip". If the ship is vaccinated, no problem. If any number of people are not, then problem.

The Diamond Princess fiasco was in like early February, and that was also the time the CDC, Fauci, and the Surgeon General was telling the population not to wear masks.

Apparently they didn’t know how it transmitted either. But, now we know that they lied.

They *lied*? Seriously, you think they lied? It was a new, never before encountered virus. It still is. They didn't know. But they didn't lie. And I won't have any more politically charged discussion regarding being lied to by the CDC, argue that with someone else.

Telling the people not to wear masks and stop buying them because it’s not necessary, and then coming out later and saying we told you that because we wanted to save them for those in healthcare is in fact lying to your constituents.

It might have been a new virus, but everyone in Taiwan knew how to deal with it from day 1 because of previous epidemics like bird flu, etc.

My 13-year-old daughter just got her first shot. What a great day. Everyone in my family is now on their way to being protected.

Love it! In California, we just started vaccinating down to 12 year olds starting today, and it appears that we have plenty of vaccine in the US. We have only one remaining "not fully vaccinated" (young adult) daughter (out of 3), and she gets her final shot today.

Also, I'm starting to seee more and more news articles taking into account "prior infections", and not just vaccinations, in regards to achieving "herd immunity":

"In L.A. County, home to 10.1 million, about 49% of residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine. But the L.A. County Department of Health Services estimatesthat perhaps 63% of county residents have immunity to the virus, either because they’ve been vaccinated or because they’ve survived the illness."

For context, yesterday, Los Angeles County only had 273 new recorded infections out of that 10.1 million population...

I see this mentality now with masks and its so frustrating. My daughter had Outdoor Lab last Friday in school and one of her classmates went sick anyway because he really wanted to go and everyone would be wearing masks anyway so its okay. Well now at least 3 classmates tested positive and the whole class misses out on in-person learning for the rest of the school year. It doesn't matter if people are wearing a mask or vaccinated...stop justifying being selfish!

You gave specific numbers that are very much not in line with national averages. As a nurse *I* do know that is problematic. Not for the national average- but for your numbers.

So what? I clearly stated it was just what I observed and nothing more as well as it was part of a conversation with another posted.

I also haven't had anyone I know have a bad outcome from COVID or die. So does that mean I'm saying no one did? You are just being contrary to be contrary not really adding anything to the conversation. :confused3

No one knew how it transmitted then, what the symptoms were to look for.

In Ohio, only 1/3 of the population is vaccinated, majority being old people and our case numbers are around 139/100,000.

Our Governor announced yesterday he’s dropping all covid health orders June 2, but that’s also because the Ohio legislature was going to override him on June 23.

For every nurse, doctor, health official that says vaccines are responsible for the drop, there’s a set that says it isn’t.

Yes, and to add to that immunity is not only gained from the vaccine but recovering from the natural infection. We don't know exactly how long it will last but it definitely a lot longer than the 3 months they were saying it would. So that should be taken into account as well.

I don't think it's going to ruin the economy.

In certain parts of the world the vaccines are very popular. (Example: Here in Quebec (Canada), most eligible categories seem to be on their way to reach 80 to 92% vaccination rate).

I'm sure there will be enough vaccinated people to fill up cruise ships.

But it's my opinion/my personal prediction. Time will tell.
Yeah, only time will tell. I think we will return to normal life long before most people think we will but I realize that I could be wrong. We will see.

Yup! I would seriously be surprised if the US isn't back to normal by the end of the summer.

I hope so, but considering these guidelines are for fully vaccinated people only, I think "going back to normal" depends on getting those fully vaccinated numbers up in the first place. We seem to be plateauing. Fingers crossed that getting the younger crowd vaxed will help. We're just looking to cruise over here!

Well really it applies to anyone with immunity (that takes into account those of us who have recovered as well) but we haven't plateaued that I've seen. From the CDC data tracker we are down 13.2% in new cases since last week. We may slow down again as the case counts go down but we are moving in a very positive direction.

Here in Florida, about 10% if the rate of infection.
And no it isn't the same thing. I'm not saying you can't vaccinate I'm saying that it shouldn't be a requirement for anything.

Why shouldn't a business make their own decision about to what standard the customer should be held to in an effort to protect all of their other customers?

It looks like the CDC is about to ease the general mask guidance even more if you are fully vaccinated.

After full vaccination, you don't need masks indoors (and outdoors) in most cases - presumably as long as you aren't in a crowd.

This looks like another way to recommend full vaccination. "You want to shed your masks? Earn it by getting vaccinated."

Doesn't apply to cruise ships or airplanes or hospitals or businesses requiring masks in settings specific to them.

People have medical and religious reasons not to get vacinnated.
