The Updated and All-Inclusive Costume Thread

That just past the shoulders length is hard to braid! The hair is just not long enough to really get incorporated into a braid and stay put. I used to french braid my hair for running when it was longer (maybe bra line length) but even just a few inches shorter and it won't stay in place and you have all these weird pieces poking out of the end part of the braid.
right?! If i were braiding someone else's hair I would absolutely be able to do it, but on my own head? nope. I think I'm going to take my very old pink UA visor and glue a bunch of flowers to it instead of doing braids.

DH and I are dressing as Phineas and Ferb for the half. I have an Agent P stuffed animal. Any creative ideas for how to use him other than one of us just holding it? Like attach him to our back somehow?

I hot glued golden horns on a stuffed alligator to complete my Loki variant costume during Wine and Dine and had the same dilemma for carrying it. I ended up stealing the idea from the stuffed Banshees/Porgs/Groots that sit on your shoulder. I hot glued a metal washer to the bottom of the gator and then attached a super strength magnet to a piece of duct tape that sat on the inside of my shirt on my shoulder. It stayed on perfectly while running and the magnet made it easy to remove the gator when I wanted to just carry it.

Hot glue some velcro to the paws so that it looks like he is clinging to your back.
Or maybe make his arms wrap around your upper arm.
Or maybe get one of those "fanny packs" that is carried diagonally across one's chest or back and have it partially unzipped with Agent P sticking halfway out. That might look nifty slung across your back.

You all are awesome!!! Thank you for the ideas! :-)

So my costumes for the half and full are both basically “biker” shorts, sparkle skirts, and t-shirts. I get REALLY hot when I run, and I am definitely probably okay with the t-shirt for anything above 35-40 as long as it is not too windy. I am concerned about my legs though. Do y’all just bring backup leggings and shirts in your costume colors just in case? I’m having trouble finding some (I need white and green).

I'm the other way around, in that I won't feel the cold much on my legs. I'll want to make sure I'm warm from the waist up, hence the discardable sweat shirts for the first mile(s), depending upon the starting temps. And something I've noticed of late is wanting to keep my hands warm. Hmmm, I might bring some disposable handwarmer packs.

I always wear black capri leggings when running. I just wear the corresponding color as the skirt over top for my costumes.

Woke up and had a costume-realization in the middle of last night. And nothing good can come from middle-of-the-night realizations.

I have 2 pairs of running shoes: a teal pair (older, gave me blisters and a black toenail during my full after having almost 0 issues during all of training) to go with my merida costume, and a purple pair (newer, wide-width) that I specifically chose the color because it would "go" with a variety of costume options.

My plan was to do Rapunzel for the half so I wouldn't have to put my SPI belt over my fabulous dottie skirt (I can fit 2 gels and my phone in my pockets for that), and Merida for the full because the tank top is a lot more ventilated, darker (so it would camouflage the SPI belt better) AND she's my favorite princess. But to have the *correct* color shoes to go with each outfit, that would have me run another full in shoes that I know gave me problems last time. ARRG! I want the shoes to match! And spending another $100 on shoes right now would NOT go over well.

Ouch. And I hear you. I've spent way more than I should have on costuming for these races. But, it's all about the photo ops....

I'm in the same boat, but I've decided that if the costumes are fabulous enough, nobody will pay attention to the shoes. There are some crazy running shoe colors out there, so I'm just not going to worry about that.

Anything that you do to carry him will look great. Keep in mind that he's a platypus....they don't do much.

Good mindset, but tough to do for some of us. I was actually shopping for black running shoes to make the costume as complete as possible.
Obsess much? Who, me?

That's generally my mindset. If I can find a pair of my usual Ghosts that fit the outfit, great! I buy them for the race and use them afterwards. O/w I just stick with a shoes that doesn't match but won't kill my feet. My husband made that mistake once with some yellow Nike's for a mickey costume. They looks great, but they just didn't work great for his feet and they ended up being no-run shoes after suffering through the race. He ran some short runs in them ahead of time and said they weren't super comfy but he thought they would be ok. Afterwards, he said never again.
