The Updated and All-Inclusive Costume Thread

@Herding_Cats have you tried using heat transfer paper? I’ve never used it, but I think it’s a bit like sublimation. You use your printer to print the design, then cricut to cut, and then heat press on the fabric. I’ve never used it myself, but it might work out better than layering multiple layers of htv
I totally forgot about that stuff!!! And then you don’t have to worry about light colors on a darker shirt coming out weird like you would with sublimation

I'm having decision paralysis over my W&D 5K costume. I LOVE the Muppets and have too many ideas! I think I've narrowed it to the following and would love some feedback. Note that I also am doing MNSSHP the night before the race and may decide to just wear the costume straight through.

1. Miss Piggy as the HM tightrope walker. Inspired by fan art, and the fact that I already have a tightrope walker costume. I found this great prosthetic pig nose online, and would do a long blonde wig with pig ears. Maybe add Piggy's signature pearls and long gloves?

2. Miss Piggy dressed as Kermit (this is from Muppets Most Wanted). I would definitely simplify this for the weather. Kermit skater dress, hood with pig ears, and the blonde wig and prosthetic nose from above. I'm not sure anyone would get it? (Apologies that the Kermit-as-Piggy is rather horrifying!)

3. Kermit/Patrick Mahomes mashup. This is just a fun joke for my fellow Chiefs fans (or haters). If you aren't familiar, he gets compared all the time as his voice is very Kermit-like. There was also an incident in the preseason where the Raiders brought a Kermit doll to training camp and posted with it on social media. I'd use the dress from above and find a Mahomes headband with hair attached. Too "clever"? Or worth it for those who might get it?

4. Something else entirely. HALP!!!

@The Expert I think that option 1 would work really, really well. It's recognizable (even if people miss the Muppet angle) and the pig-ear headband would be enough IMO to pull it off, without having to use the nose as well.

I know where your head and your heart are with #3, but it's sooooo niche.

@The Expert I think either option 1 or 2 would be really cute and most people would get it. Option 3 would (and does even with your explanation) go right over my head.

I agree with @Herding_Cats though, that while really cool, the prosthetic pig nose isn't really necessary. I cannot imagine running with that on.

I think that one of those silly round/barrel pig noses on an elastic string like Kermit has in the pic would be easier/more obvious and very simple to pop on for pics, and off for existing in FL heat.

Thank you all for the gut check! And yes, while the nose would be amazing I'm not sure about comfort factor, especially with the party on top of the race. Since I have the costume, I think I'll go with option one withOUT the nose.

Now that Springtime registration is secured, it’s time for costumes! And right on time, my custom clothing printer had a 2-for-1 sale on skater dresses so I could get one for my grandma without wasting any money if she ends up unable to go. We’ll be going as Captain America (my grandma’s favorite) and Captain Carter (the logical companion costume)

May I ask you which company has the 2 for 1 special?
I love those dresses!

Cowcow.com I have half a dozen of their dresses that I’ve used for race costumes or for park dresses. There’s a ton of designs available, submitted by real people (or bots, who knows) or you can create your own. They have all different styles of clothes, and you can even order printed fabric if you’re into making your own stuff.

My gf did the Miss Piggy/Madame Leota character for the Disneyland Halloween 10k, and the nose was rough. As Carissa reminded us before the race, when we exhale we are basically dehydrating ourselves, and the nose would fill with water. She would have to dump it out. It was gross haha. So definitely test whatever you end up doing there.

OMG I never even thought of that! But I had already decided to skip the nose. The costume is recognizable without, so why put myself through that? Honestly my biggest concern was securing it good enough at 2am to make it through the race.

I promise I mean NO HARM by this post, but I don't "get" the Crowned Athletics hype. Their stuff is cute, I guess, but it doesn't seem all that comfortable or breathable. I also don't see how S/M/L sizing works at all with sports bras -- especially as a small band/big cup person. If you're a fan, tell me why I should change my mind (or not).

Hot take:
It’s cute, but not “worth” the price if you are like me and don’t want to baby your stuff. Wash on delicate, in a bag, hang to dry, and make a sacrifice to the gods that the foil doesn’t peel? No thanks. (I’ve run in the Merida flow…which I still own, the Jasmine athletic tank which was cut oddly wide at the shoulders/armpit for me and I don’t have narrow shoulders, and the Epcot sports bra, which was too low-cut to feel functional to me and I’m only a 34B.)

Is it super cute? Yes. Is it super fun that the collections are all “made” to go together (like how the sports bra will look under the tanks with the straps)? Absolutely.

As far as the sports bras go, she has a chart that ranks the supportiveness, and in the fb groups a lot of ladies with cup/band ratios outside of the common ones will post pics and opinions, which is great. She’s pretty size inclusive compared to a lot of brands. They’ve improved their stocking quantities and things are no longer selling out in 2-3 minutes, only to pop up on resale sites for 5x the cost a week later. I do think that a big driver of the hype has historically been that it was hard to get stuff. It sold out insanely fast.

It is interesting to me that some of the people in those groups seem to have made the brand their entire personality and there are regularly posts with someone’s entire bed covered in crowned pieces while they pack for their cruise or whatever. (Oh please. You just want everyone to see your massive collection and oooh and ahhh over it.) Or someone only kind-of joking that they need to get their paycheck so they can purchase several hundred dollars worth of stuff.

I'm on the Crowned hype train, so I'll respond!

For context: I am very short (4'10") and approximately 145 pounds, with baby weight around the middle and thick thighs.

The shorts are SO comfortable. I didn't think I'd like them because they looked thicker, stiffer, etc. But once I got my first pair I knew they were my new favorite shorts. The material is shiny and smooth and feels so good to run in. It's a thicker material, but not stiff, and it doesn't feel hot. I like the longer length - no chance of chafing. The pockets are long and hold a lot. I really like the small zipper pocket for keys, AirPods, etc. I currently have five pairs (Star Captain, Force Fighter, Glitter Black, Geodesic Night and Geodesic Day) and wish they'd release more.

I also have two "flow" tank tops, Force Fighter and Star Lake Queen. I love the designs, but I'm not as keen on the style, as it runs a little bigger than I'd like. Next time I buy one, I will try a small, or get the athletic tanks. That being said, I wore a flow tank at my 10k race and had no issues. They're also super breathable and great to wear to the parks.

I have one of the mesh tops (Geodesic Night) and I don't like these for running, but I wear them to the parks or even out and about.

I have two of the sports bras - Force Fighter and Glitter Black. I only wear bras with S/M/L type sizing, and I buy a medium here. They provide a lot of coverage and have minimal bouncing. I also recently bought the Geodesic Night sports bra but ended up returning it because it was lower cut than I'd like. That being said, it was super cute and I'd buy other bras that provided more coverage.

Finally, I bought my first skort from the Geodesic night collection. It is super cute and I wore it to Epcot a few weeks ago. The back zipper is great for keys, etc. It's a little too short for me to wear running, but they are definitely great for parks. That being said, I haven't actually tried to run in it yet, so it might be good for shorter runs.

As for care/maintenance, I put all my Crowned gear (and regular sports bras) in a lingerie bag and wash on my regular cycle. I hang dry everything. I've had no issues so far and the sheen of the shorts hasn't diminished at all.

All my orders have arrived quickly. I just returned a sports bra, so I'll report back on how that process goes.

I honestly think this is what has put me off. LOL!

Okkkkay good to know. I was thinking thicker = hot but that's really great info.

I honestly hadn't even considered park wear -- was thinking races. But for parks, I get it now!

Thank you both for the detailed info.
