The U2 Thread - Vertigo Tour

For anyone who missed seeing U2 perform at Live 8 last weekend...ten hours will be broadcast commercial-free this Saturday! I personally couldn't handle how bad MTV chopped the performances up so I quit watching after 15 minutes. :sad2: Hopefully, they get it right this time!

The complete MTV broadcast will include performances by: Paul McCartney & U2, U2, Coldplay, Black Eyed Peas, Destiny's Child, Green Day, Dido & Youssou N'Dour, Kanye West, Alicia Keys, R.E.M., Snoop Dogg, Orchestra Baobab, Madonna, Linkin Park, Linkin Park & Jay-Z, the Killers, Björk, Good Charlotte, Malaika, Audioslave, Mariah Carey, Robbie Williams, the Who, Pink Floyd and Paul McCartney.

MTV and VH1 will each offer five hours of uninterrupted performance footage with differing artist lineups on Saturday. VH1 will air its Live 8 highlights from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, while MTV's batch of highlights will roll out from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

From Patti Smith to Kanye West

Lowdown on very cool line-up of acts playing with U2 in the next few months.

We already reported that Dashboard Confessional will be opening for the first shows in Toronto – now we can confirm that they’ll be staying on the road with U2 for shows in Chicago (Sep 21 and 22), Minneapolis (Sep 23) and Milwaukee (Sep 25).

Then Keane, who played with U2 during the summer in Europe, will get on board the Vertigo train. The English band will play shows in Boston (October 3/4) and New York’s Madison Square Garden (October 7th-14th).

When U2 return to Madison Square Garden (November 21st/22nd) the legendary Patti Smith will be performing with them.

Arcade Fire will open when the band return to Canada for shows in Ottawa (Nov 25th) and Montreal (Nov 26/28th) and Kanye West is set to play dates in December, from the 14th through the 19th.

More news on who is playing where and when with U2 this Fall as we get it. But that’s a pretty cool start!

Personally, I was really hoping for The Killers to open in LA. Oh well, still can't wait to go!!!!

Is anyone going to the 3rd leg? We have tickets for the 21st here in Chicago..I have seen them a bunch of times but I still get excited.

I'm going to the Boston show on 10/3 and I can't wait!!! I saw them back in May and they were amazing. They did "Out of Control," "Original of the Species" and "Bad" at that show, and I'm excited to see what other gems they'll pull out of the catalog for this leg.My seats aren't anywhere near as good this time but I know we'll still have a fantastic time.

I'm going October 4th and December 5th. My seats on 10/4 are excellent but I've been spoiled by the ellipse and my seats for 12/5 are ok but I'm extremely grateful to be in the building!!!!! I can't wait!

I have GA's for the 11/2 LA show and the 11/4 Vegas show. It's gonna be a busy week for me but so worth it!!! I noticed Fast Cars was on the setlist recently!! I'm crossing my fingers it'll make into one of my shows.

You'all want to know what kinda sucks. I went on tickemaster (i like to check for GA's) and I got better seats (to the sold out show) due to a ticket dump then I have now. I have never had good seats to a U2 show...

Thank you all for asking for a show review from last night...( ;) )

It was amazing they really changed things around..little slower then dh likes but I loved it. It seemed like they played forever! I really enjoyed the first round in Chicago, but last night was better by far...please remind me to only go to the show the 2nd leg.

They are still the best band in the business

I would have posted the set list but I'm not sure if people want it?

How cool they still end the show with 40. I remember standing in the old Tampa Stadium and singing it over and over again until the janitors chased us out! :)

I haven't seen them since Joshua Tree - can't wait 'til November!

Thanks for the set list!

FYI:
For those who want tickets but haven't been able to get them, Ticketmaster released tickets for both Boston shows yesterday. They had balcony and loge seats so keep checking!!!!!!!!

I LOVE Crumbs! I have 2 chances to hear it live next week so I hope they play it!

The Toronto show on Sep 14 was cool, but the setlist seemed a little short compared to what they have done in other shows. Still, it was great just to be there! I had bought a pre-concert party package, which consisted of dinner and a U2 cover band called October who were actually pretty good! We had a blast dancing and singing with the cover band, then we were all bussed down to the concert - it was a riot, people dancing in the aisles of the bus, U2 music playing, people singing and yelling ... and whenever we passed groups of U2 concert goers walking down the street with their banner setc., there was a big cheer and high fives throught he bus windows (which were open) .... almost more fun than the concert itself! I went alone, but I met a woman from New Zealand who was also there alone so I had someone to hang out and dance with. Actually, my main dancing partner neded up being a police officer from Syracuse who once pulled over the car that Bono was riding in after a concert! This guy was looking for suspects in a shooting, and I guess Bono's car matched a description they were looking for!

It was a GREAT night! I am SO glad I finally saw them in concert!

Same here... SSB last saw in Virginia (with the Bodeans) for The Joshua Tree! Well, did see at the Super Bowl after 9/11, but just half time set... but AMAZING>>>>

Going to Tampa show also... :)

Did anybody go to the show last night in Boston? It was awesome!!! The crowd was incredible and the band was ON! With or Without you was great and Streets was just awesome. :cool1: I'm going back for round two tonight and I'm hoping for Crumbs, Fast Cars and Bad (not too much to ask for, huh ;) ). I would love to hear a sort of homecoming but I don't know when they last played that.

cinmell! Two shows in a row! Lucky. I wanted to do that (The last leg to me is better then the first) I had amazing seats and could not justifiy it.

And good luck with your triple threat of songs...I hope you get to hear it...at least someone will!

I was there last night, too, and I completely agree with you that it was AMAZING!!! This was their first show after a week off and Bono's voice was rested and strong. I really enjoyed "Miss Sarajevo," "Streets" "Yahweh," and "With or Without You." It was also nice to see them end with "40."

I am sure tonight's show will be as good or even better now that they had last night to warm up. I'm very jealous! Good luck with your wish list--I bet you'll get at least two of them. I was at the second May show, when they closed with "Bad," and it's something I'll never forget. Be sure to report back!
