...okay, so today is Part II of my quest to procure a picture ID for my DS, Dylan. Yesterday, we went to the DMV to get him a "ID Only" card, not a driver's license (don't ask - that's a whole 'nuther story....) for him to board the ship when we go away. We went to info desk near the front door - there's a MOB of people in line outside (shocker, right?) waiting just to get in the place. Well, even if he's just getting an ID card, not a driver's license, Dylan still needs the 6 points of proof (you NJ drivers know what I'm talking about!) Unfortunately, Dylan didn't like his school pic, so he decided to THROW AWAY his school id card ( ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!?!?!?), which could have been used as one of the points. So, I have a COPY of his SS card, not the actual card (haven't seen THAT in years) - the woman at the desk tells me that I can just go to the SS office to get another card, as long as I have a picture driver's license; it'll be mailed to my house in about 2-3 weeks, but they'll issue me a letter, which is a valid piece of identification. Okay, so off to Hackensack to the SS office, but it's recently been relocated clear across to the other side of Hackensack!! (when did THAT happen?) Boy, are THEY a pleasant bunch....since when is a BIRTH CERTIFICATE not a valid form of ID?? The only thing that they will accept is a letter from his high school, or a letter [on letterhead] from his pediatrician, including his DOB. No problemo - I called the doctor's office and they were happy to oblige, except, when I got into my car, letter in hand, the secretary had typed out a generic letter, and it was NOT on an 'official' letterhead, so I had to go back to the office to get another one. Today, it's back to the SS office to get that letter, so we can take it back to the DMV so that Dylan can get an ID card.....all this just for a week-end cruise to NOWHERE.....
