The restaurant you will never go back to...

That would be Storytellers Cafe. We used to love going there and it would be a must-do on every trip. Our March 2009 trip would be our last time going there due to our horrid experience there. We felt so bad recommending it so highly to our extended family (7 of us). Here's why:

1. The food was really bad there. The fish I ordered smelled fishy (indicator that it's not fresh), overdone on the outside but all raw on the inside. My DD's ravioli was supposed to be in a red sauce (as the waiter described it to her) but was actually in a clear broth. The other orders were just mediocre.

2. Our waiter pretty much ignored us the entire night. And the restaurant was not busy with many many empty tables. He took our orders, and only came back when I flagged him down to tell him my daughter's ravioli was not in a red sauce as he described and my fish was not cooked and smelled fishy. He was rude and told me that that didn't stop my daughter from eating half of it -- that's right, she was hungry and there was no other alternative since he didn't show up for us to tell him at the beginning of our meal!!! He disappeared with my plate, mumbling about something, and never returned with my meal. I basically didn't eat except for the first few bites.

3. I went to the host at the front of the register, and told him we haven't seen my waiter, he disappeared with my food for 20-25 minutes, can we see a manager and can we get the bill because my family is all finished and we wanted to go because we received no service. He told me the manager will come. Another 30 minutes, no manager, no bill. We all pack up and tell the host that nobody came and we received no bill, so we'll just leave. CA was closing soon, and we were running out of time (our last night at DL/CA). The host said OK because he understood we are having a bad experience.

4. We left the restaurant and hung outside feeling really gross about what went on in the restaurant because we are not the kind of people who would dine and dash. But we received no service, no bill, and I got no dinner as it was whisked away. Through the windowed doors, we saw the manager in his black suit come out to to talk with the host, and they were staring at us outside. My DH and DBIL went back in after 10 minutes of our pondering what to do. They had a long discussion with the manager who was just as rude, informing him of the poor service we received, then they paid the bill, minus my meal. And the kicker, the manager, even though he saw us through the doors, had called security to search for us and detain us -- kids and all.

We weren't looking for a free meal or anything, because we are able to afford this. We weren't looking for any discounts because we paid for our meal except for mine which was taken away nor did we ask for any discounts.

The whole experience left us with a bad taste in our mouth (literally and figuratively). But my DDs and my DNeice were all scared that they were coming to arrest us. Perhaps we were wrong in leaving the restaurant in the first place. It's not like we were rowdy; we were completely respectful restaurant patrons, lots of pleases and thank yous. We wanted the bill so I had to get up and go to the host to get it. We wanted to return to the parks. What was going to be a nice dinner turned into a 2.5-hour ordeal.:scared1:

I have never eaten at Storytellers but my friend has tried it twice with her family. They all got food poisoning on the both tries.:crazy2:

Another vote for Napolini. We enjoyed Naples a couple years ago so thought Napolini would be a quick take out place that was decent. Went there last year and it was horrible. Pizza crust was stale, cold, and gross. Bread wasn't good either. We were both too tired to complain to a manager but should have.

We had a bad experience at French Market on a different trip and probably won't go there again either. Food was not good.

Wow, really?? Chevy's is pretty much not great, but we love :lovestrucTortilla Joe's! They tend to get a bad rap on here, there is one poster who always tells the Food Poisoning story (could have been a flu bug, not even food poisoning, right?). The few times we have been - both at the take out window and inside - have been really, really good. So good that all 14 people in our party were happy with the meal. I know each place can have an off day or off shift, but we have been very happy with TJ's.

Hmm, maybe we will give it another try. Like I said, it wasn't the meal, it was the $70 for lunch for 4 of us (two kids) that turned us off. The food was fine - we were just shocked at the cost. Our view is probably skewed bc we work next door to a hole in the wall with fabulous, cheap Mexican food. We can't expect that at Disneyland.

I have to throw my 2 cents in on Storytellers. We have eaten there 3 times, and always had a really good or great meal. One time in particular, it was December & cold(ish) outside, and we were seated by the fireplace. It was really nice. So glad we didn't have such an awful experience! That would make me never, ever go back! It is always hard to deal with really bad service, but somehow when you are at DL, it seems that much harder!

BTW, can someone tell me what WCT is?

WCT - Wine Country Trattoria (in DCA)

I, too, have, thus far, had good experiences with Storytellers but I don't take that for granted because I know all too well that a restaurant can have one really bad night and that can change one's mind about it in an instant!

It's Wine Country Trattoria in DCA. I absolutely loved the lasagna there. DH was disappointed in his sandwich though because the description said artichoke hearts and he said there was only one on the whole sandwich. We also had bad service but the lasagna was so good I'm willing to overlook that.

Hi Sherry! We posted at the same time!

Hee hee! I noticed that too!

So far, I haven't had bad service at WCT either! I seem to be doing pretty well with the good service and good food tally at the places I have eaten at DLR, with the exception of the one bad time at Carnation and a couple of looooonnnnnngggg waits to be seated at BB, ESPN Zone and Rainforest Cafe. But overall, I have had mostly positive dining experiences at DLR and certainly not experienced anything that would chase me away forever - YET!;) But this thread is fascinating to me because we literally have both sides of the coin on most of the places mentioned on here - some have had totally horrid experiences at a restaurant and others have had great meals and service at those same places! I find that so interesting!

Yeah, the service we had at WCT wasn't good but it wasn't so bad that I wouldn't go back. It was just bad in a regular way. lol I'm guessing it was just that particular server. I haven't had any really awful experiences anywhere at DLR either. I shouldn't read all these food threads right before dinner though, now I'm getting hungry!

Thanks - just wasn't making the connection on that one! Maybe I should go there & try the lasagna - everything I've had there has been so-so, and the cold breadsticks just don't appeal to me.

I think we are all a little mystified by the cold breadsticks.:confused3 Did you try the meatball sandwich? The enormous pizzetta salad? The orange sorbet?

The lasagna was good because it was light and the noodles were thinner (meaning flatter) than lasagna noodles usually are. It wasn't as cheesy or heavy as lasagna usually is. I love cheese but this was really good even without all the melted chese.

I agree about the breadsticks. I don't understand why anywhere would serve them cold. Doesn't it make sense to heat them up a little? I'm also a bit of a breadstick snob because nothing ever comes close to the yummy taste of the breadsticks at Pat & Oscar's. I will say that the breadsticks at WCT were a million times better than the ones at Olive Garden. Bleh. I'm not a fan of Olive Garden. But the ones at Pat & Oscar's are a lot better than at WCT. So there's my breadstick hierarchy.

Yes, no and no. Maybe I had the meatball sandwich on a bad day - the bread was cold from what I remember (it was a few years ago). Apparently I have a warm bread obsession:rolleyes1. The pizzetta salad sounds yummy. We usually don't get dessert right away after we eat, so I've never tried the desserts at any of the Disney restaurants. This thread is making me rethink some things though! And we are planning on doing the kitchen sink thing just for the "wow" factor for the kids!

You got that right!!!! HURL! PUKE! VOMIT inducing YUCK. Seriously, do not go there. I consider myself a bit of a foodie so I can be picky - but even a person who lives on fast food & pizza would not get out of there alive. UGH!

I can honestly say that out of 4 dishes, DH's sausage dish was the only mildly edible one. THe pizza is grotesque. I think they manufacture the cheese they use from the sewer system.

Yes. It's THAT bad.

Well, I hate to be contradictory, but I have eaten at Naples probably five times at least and always left alive!;) And I eat food beyond fast food or take out pizza. I guess we all have different tastes and experiences but I have really enjoyed our time there and love the outdoor seating area, especially when Drew Tetrick is playing nearby and we can hear him.

My only one I don't return to is Village Haus. It wasn't terrible and didn't make me ill, but there are so many other cs places in DL that I love so I don't bother with that one anymore.

It boggles my mind that they don't warm the breadsticks. I want to ask them the next time I eat at WCT why they do not. It seems crazy to me. The meatball sandwich is something I generally enjoy - however, they do not melt the mozzarella cheese on it; they grate it on. I like melted cheese on a sandwich so they need to heat it up for a few extra seconds. But it had a good flavor to it.

Maybe WCT just has something against heating up food??:lmao: The orange sorbet comes served in an orange peel. It looks like it would be great on a hot summer day. And yes, that salad is huge.....though not as huge as the Kitchen Sink you are going to have at PCH Grill!! That thing is mind-bending. I have not had it yet because I have not had enough people with me to tackle it, but it looks awesome!!:thumbsup2 Let us know if your group is able to walk after you all eat it!!

Yay!:cool1: I am not the only one who made it out of Naples alive - AND enjoyed my meals and service there too! I honestly thought it was a nice little place to eat - especially at an outdoor table! I never knew Naples had inspired such disgust! I know there are more of you secret Naples fans out there!

It is good to know I am also not alone! I'll also add I recommended it to my brother and his wife who love their Italian food and they enjoyed it too. And on other threads around here, I have seen many people say they enjoy this one and others who don't. No restaurant can be all things to all people!

I will add that I haven't been there since January of 2008, so maybe its gone downhill. But I've gone around every other trip since 2003 and enjoyed all our times there. My fil always joins us for one or two meals (he lives in Orange Country) and he always likes to make that one if we go. And he's picky!

Pinocchio Haus has standard burgers and thus it is a great place to eat but there are equals out there that serve the same food so nothing specail there.

I have not contacted Rainforest or ESPN Zone but they are on my do not eat list as they do not serve potatos or rice with their meals if you are on special diets like me. No rice and taters makes for a lousy meal. I can go to Outback or Pinocchio Hause and get me a meal for less. hrmph a garbage dump as far as I am concerned if they cannot even make a bake potato, boil taters or do white rice. How hard is them to make,

Village Haus - the food there is just yuck. Bland and no flavor, even though I know some will say it is the same burgers that are served at other places.

The other is Goofy's. I have also gotten food poisoning there, I think it was the fish I ate. No one else in my family ate it and I was the only one sick. It made for a pretty crappy 7 hour drive home the next day. Despite that we have continued to go back, but really we have never been happy with our experience there. I am really not going back this time, there are so many other options for character meals and Goofy's seems to be the most expensive!

I guess it takes a lot for me to never eat at a restaurant again. We've eaten at several places in DLR where the service hasn't been the best, but I didn't get sick or I wasn't treated extremely rude where it wouldn't make me not want to ever go back.

Yes, that is one I was trying to think of. Not horrible, but not really good either. We don't go there. And years ago it seemed like that hamburger was almost all you could get anywhere at DL. Hungry Bear still seems to have the same burger. It was then we would go off to the DLH in search of something differernt. That was when we found this very cute 50's dinner there. Loved that, but it is gone now. When that left we found some decent food near the DLH pool. It was a bar. Now, there are more choices around DLR but those two places mentioned I earlier seem to be a throw back to more bland times.
