The real scoop on Sci-Fi...??!

It's a great place to eat with a great atmosphere...Most of us had the burgers and steak fries which were awesome! My daughter especially enjoyed the "glow in the dark" sodas they serve there and the idea of sitting in a car to eat was a hit as well...Lunch or dinner I do not think you will be disappointed :-)

I will never forget the comment from my 4yr old DS (in 2004) when we walked in "Wow this is cool"! :teeth: We went in at dinner time and also heard the same reviews that dinner is not that good just the burgers are good. So we asked for a lunch menu and they more then obliged. We order burgers, fries, and milkshakes!!

We really liked it...so did my boys. My dh and I loved the fact that it felt like we were on a "date". The boys sat in the front seat, and we sat in the back. They were totally into the movie clips and we heard not a peep from them the whole meal. Ah, bliss!

I had some sort of chicken sandwich....my dh had a reuben and the boys had burgers. They shared a cookies and cream milkshake that was fantastic!! The food was fine. Completely edible and yes, we'd go back again!

Have fun!

Our kids thought it to be soooo cool. The food was good. Shakes were GREAT! Service was a little slow but it was very busy. :cool1:

I don\'t think you\'ll have any issues at all. GF and I ate lunch at the Sci-Fi. The food was your standard burger joint fare. I\'d compare it to Red Robin with less selection. Food wasn\'t spectacular, but then again it\'s the fun, atmosphere, and \"something different\" that we go for. After all, if we were looking for great food in a standard restaurant, we could find that at home.

How is the steak or salmon ? I am not really a burger and fries person. Anyone had the Space Monkey drink ? :)

I am having a hard time deciding betwen sci fi and 50s prime time for dinner. Similar foods but totally differnet themes!

We love Sci Fi! It's a must-do for our family every trip. We did go for dinner one time and were disappointed in the food, so now we stick to lunch. We have burgers, fries, onion rings, and shakes, and all of these are yummy!

I honestly would not order steak or salmon at Sci Fi - it just isn't that kind of place. I don't know why they even offer those types of foods. I wish they'd just take those items off the menu. Maybe then they'd lose their reputation for having terrible food.

lunch is wonderful here. the dinner menu is not up to par imo. i'd stick to a lunch time vist.

It’s a must on our trip to Disney, this time due to our short trip; I was going to eliminate it in order to squeeze in some other results. Both of my boys insisted on going to SciFi and said the trip would not be the same if we didn’t go there. We always get the Reubens (sp), burgers and Onion Rings, the desert is pretty straight forward since the entire menu follows the suite, yet it was very appropriate, on our last trip we had the apple pie ala mode and it was fine. Go if you want fun atmosphere where kids get their own driver licenses and the wait stuff is fun. The food although not the best in the World, it is defiantly not as bad as some people make it out to be. IMHO.

Oh, I forgot to mention if you do go for supper, you can request burgers, even tough they are not on the menu.

:sunny: We have gone to Sci-Fi every year for the burgers and milkshakes for lunch. Never any problem with the food.

IMHO, if you are on the DDP then dinner is the best bang for your buck for Sci-Fi but I am a penny pincher to make sure that I come out on top. If that doesnt "bother" you then lunch time there is a great experience. You can plop in there in the middle of your discovery of MGM and then head out to see Lights, Motors, Actions afterwards.

As for the food, it was fine. Not great but fine. But you are mainly going there fo r the theming anyway. I was a little disappointed the last time I went because most all of the CM see VERY ho-hum, which ticked me off since it was my DH's first time there. I know though that everyplace has its up days and down days. I think your kids will love it.

If you like they have the glowing ice cubes there (the blue one is my favorite) for a little extra charge. Oh and you must try (or split) a milkshake!! They are grreeeat!

Have fun!

I need some help by way of opionions here...I'm sure they'll run the gamut from good to bad!

We've got our ADRs made for our Sept. trip. Among those are a lunch at the Sci-Fi. Mostly, I have 3 young boys who will think it's the coolest place to eat they've ever seen! However, I am starting to get scared off by the reviews (found elsewhere, not here on the DIS). UG suggests going there just for dessert, which I suppose we could do at some point, but I was looking for a TS place for a whole meal (free dining!).

Now, I'm not a fine food expert nor am I a food snob. I like good simple fare and I'm not going to notice whether or not my meat was walking around that morning or has been in cold storage for months!! (well, with the possible exception of a good steak, but I'm not going to Sci-Fi for steak).

So, if I go without high expectations and just want a decent, palatable meal for my family in a fun atmosphere, will we do ok here? Your answers will make or break whether I keep this ADR or try something else! (not too much pressure! :teeth: )

TIA!

Keep it! I think you'll love it! I've been to Sci Fi at least 5 times, and I've never once had a horrible meal. Some were better than others, but if you've ever eaten fast food or diner food, your taste buds won't be completely repelled. Rule of thumb- any shakes or anything deep fried is excellent. :lmao: Fries and onion rings are awesome! The milkshakes are fabulous- and they even have "adult" shakes with a shot or two of liqueur.

My DBF is a huge Sci Fi buff, loves cars, etc. so when we were babysitting my nephews in Sarasota, we went here. My boyfriend LOVED it. It is his number one favorite Disney restaurant! We're going back again in November!

The atmosphere is extremely fun for little (or big) boys and memorable.

I can be a little bit of a food snob, but I just don't order steak or something like that here. The best rule of thumb for any restaurant is to order what they are known for. I usually get a burger or grilled chicken sandwich and both are excellent. The BLT soup was wonderful, too, though. Ribs were decent, but I've had better. Kids can order grilled chicken, mac and cheese, burgers, or chicken nuggets. They will also give you a grilled cheese sandwich or plain pasta with no sauce for a pickier kid.

Anyway, I definitely think you should give it a try. It is just the kind of place three young boys would absolutely love. There are so many restaurants for little princesses and I think this is a welcome respite for those with boys. Drivers' licenses? Sitting in front of the car with mom and dad in the backseat? Glow in the dark ice cubes? Come on, this is sooo Disney! :wizard:

Sci-Fi is one of my families favorite places. The ribs are yummy and they do up a good burger too.

I went one time and I thought the food was good, not great. If I remember we got burgers and they were okay. The atmosphere was awesome though. I recommend going at least once, especially if you have grade school kids, and getting a burger or sandwich.

We always go to Sci-Fi for lunch on every trip. The burgers, onion rings, fries and reuben are all good but once I tried the shrimp penne pasta I've ordered that every time since then. I think you'll really like it.

Is it true that the waitresses are on roller skates?? That would be SOOOO Cool.............. :cool1:

I got the ribs, which were passable, but not great. I've been spoiled by Texas Roadhouse ribs. The hot fudge sundae we got for dessert was delicious, and the atmosphere was wonderful!!! I would probably follow everyone's advice and go for the burgers.

KEEP IT SIMPLE: Milkshakes, hamburgers, onion rings. All very, very good! We go every single trip, would not miss it!

My parents and I went here almost a year ago. You sound like their dining style. They enjoyed it greatly. I did also but I'm vegetarian so I can't comment on the meat. They got onion rings and ribs, and they thought the food was really decent. I got the spinach dip which was really good, and I got the veggie meal which I was quite pleasantly surprised. We all got the ice cream sundaes and we really enjoyed the whole meal. I would definately recommend it to anyone who's just looking to have a fun meal and not some fancy schmancy dining experience. :thumbsup2

tricia.
