The Power of Matching T-shirts: TR is over!~ 9/20

They have very cute mini fake trees as well, that don't take up as much room. I had a fake tree for a couple of years which I didn't like but a fake tree is better than nothing. I do suggest getting one that has the lights already put on it, very convienent.

When the three of us roomed together in college, Melneth's mom actually got her a fiber optic tree, and I think that's what she still uses. It was nice because it looked "decorated" before we even put anything on it!

We had a real tree last year, it's a lot of work but I really enjoy having a real tree. We had a pretty small one. We have been debating this year just doing a mini tree but that just doesn't seem like Christmas to me.

The year I got divorced, the divorce was finalized on December 12th, I had moved back in with my parents and my mom refused to get a real Christmas tree. We had this weenie small fake tree, I am still bitter over this. I even offered to pay for it and set it up but she wouldn't budge. Very sad Christmas!

We had a real tree some years while I was growing up. It was nice, but I know that living alone and working full time, I wouldn't do well regarding the upkeep. Plus having to lug it up to my apartment by myself--ugh. Not gonna happen. :sad2: But I could look into a smaller artificial one. I don't have that much space in my apartment anyway, so I imagine that'd be best.

Anyway, now that my brother and I have moved out, my parents are becoming less and less motivated to decorate. One year they didn't because my mom had had hip replacement surgery that fall and she just wasn't up to it. But last year they kept putting it off and putting it off until oh look, it's December 22nd and time to head to Texas for extended family Christmas!

This year, though, extended family's coming out to CO so I imagine they'll decorate. And enlist me, at least (since my brother was never all that enthusiastic growing up), to help. My mom has this holly stuff that she'd wrap around the banisters, along with lights. Then the tree (they usually do a 6 ft artificial) of course. She also has stockings she made for me and my brother way back when with our names on them, as well as various Santas and Christmas-themed stuffed animals.

I'll have the whole week of Thanksgiving off this year   so maybe I could just stay over Thanksgiving night or something and get them to decorate the day after, since I would've had those three days before to work on NaNoWriMo. :thumbsup2

My mom has set up a tree for the last two Christmas but I was very upset that year. :lmao: I think until grandchildren start coming I am going to have to work and convince her to have a tree each year.

I love Christmas so much! I am in a Holiday mood now. :goodvibes

 I'm sure it's the same for me. But thankfully my parents haven't ever said anything like, "Well, if we had grandchildren, we'd decorate for them."

Though I honestly do think that upon marriage, I'd be much more insistent about Christmas decorating my own home, kids or no kids.

And I must say I have been having visions of making gingerbread houses with little nuggets. My mom did that with me and my brother, but we usually used graham crackers. I think I'd try the real thing. :thumbsup2

Even aside from holidays, I'm just ready for fall. I'm ready for cool crisp evenings and curling up on my couch with a good book and a nice cup of hot tea. :goodvibes

My mom does a "Cookie Day" every December for all the little ones we know. A lot of my cousins are younger, and a lot of my mom's friends had children later in life. Now, two of my cousins have little girls as well. Anyhoo, she invites all the little girls, she invited the boys for a couple of years but they didn't enjoy it as much and they are older now so it's all girls. She makes gingerbread houses out of the kits they sell at Michaels or AC Moore and then gingerbread cookies. It's very cute. Tons of candy and frosting to decorate and they take them home. One year, my mom's friend even had a female swap at her house and we all decorated ginger bread houses because we wanted to get in on the fun! I have been a few years to my mom's and it's so much fun to watch them. Then after it's over, she will send them little photo cards in the mail of their creations. It's so sweet. I can't wait until I have kids that can go. :goodvibes

Okay, Jiri, I haven't read all of your responses...I know, I know, bad TK, but I just wanted to chime in on the tree thing...

DH works very near to a craft store.

That tends to "throw things away" that are still in pretty much good working order.

For example, all of my Christmas trees are now fake, and they all came from this place. One of them, literally, had one bad bulb, and once we fixed that, it was fine.

So my long convoluted point is, if you're feeling the budget cringe around the holiday season, and you're still interested, I can have DH keep an eye out for you. And I'd happily set you up, dear. :goodvibes

And before you all say, ewwww gross! These items aren't actually "in" the dumpster. Usually in their original packaging, set up next to it. I'm so shocked they don't donate.:confused3 But I remember working in corporate, and the general consensus was usually throw away.

TK takes care of the tree.

I give you a starter ornament, Disney of course.

There you go. Insto Presto Christmas for Jiri's apartment! :thumbsup2

Cookie Day sounds like so much fun! I would love to host something like that. Since I love baking, but my body doesn't love the results, things where I can send the goodies away work out really well. That's one of my few compunctions about someday writing for a living, actually--when I get the baking bug, who will I give all my goodies to, with no office to go to?

Aww, thanks TK! I'll keep that in mind. And actually, there's a Michaels and a Big Lots both about five minutes away from me. I might have to keep an eye out at those places, too! :goodvibes

Fun report!

I am so the opposite. I'm soooo not a morning person. I can stay up all night with no effort, but waking up in the morning is horrible for me. I'm always oversleeping.

I've never tried Disney Quest. I'm usually lousy at games so I've just never bothered. It was fun to get an opinion on it.

I wish I were less of a morning person. I really do. I would love the flexibility of being able to sleep in after I've stayed up late. New Year's Eve parties (and of course trips to Disney World) would be so much easier to handle.

I have to say that if you're not a fan of video games, then Disney Quest is definitely not for you! My favorite video games are adventure games, which are more story-oriented and take much longer to complete. Not arcade fodder by any means.

I just had to say that although I do enjoy some of the old arcade games my favourites are by far adventure RPG games. I am currently 127 hours into one such game :goodvibes

I finally have a few minutes to breathe and enjoy your latest update.

I have often wondered about Disney Quest. I shall wonder no more about it. ;)

You were so sleepy that day! At least, it wasn't a park day! :thumbsup2

Now, I am ready for the Saturday update!

Now I'm sleepy after reading that, and I slept in until 10am today! Earl of Sandwich is wonderful and I plan on getting there early in our trip next time. I'm glad to finally read a trip report where someone went to Disney Quest, as I was wondering about it.

The only two games I have remotely any talent at are vintage centipede and tetris. Stupid tetris game though is way too addictive. I try not to pick it up or I start seeing shapes in my sleep.

Wow! I do enjoy the occasional RPG, but I tend to get tired of the shooting/hacking/slashing/bashing of enemies. "Traditional" adventure games, similar to the King's Quest series, are by far my favorite. :goodvibes

Happy to help! Or at least report. ;)

:rotfl: My brother has Tetris on his phone and always plays it whenever he has to wait on something. Aside from finding online versions off and on throughout the years, I seriously think the last time I played Tetris was on the 8-bit Nintendo!
