The Pirates and the Frog (7/17 Welcome to the Next Adventure!)

Hi all! I know this is not really trip-report related but I just wanted to tell you about the lovely DISmeet lunch that DH and I enjoyed today! :goodvibes

This was a first for both of us and we were honestly not sure what to expect.
I mean...meeting a bunch of complete strangers for lunch might be great- but it could possibly be very awkward or completely bizarre.
Who knows? :confused3

Well, let me tell you, it was truly delightful! The DISfolks we met were so much fun-
it was like we were old friends in no time at all! :grouphug:

I have to say a BIG THANK YOU to All7OfUs (aka Liesa) for being the official "Social Secretary" and planning this event! :worship:

Also, I have to say a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to Boxmaster (known as "Unca" to my kids) for babysitting our 3 DISkids so that we could go to the DISmeet today!!! :thanks:

It was SO nice to have some adult conversations for a change! ::yes::
I definitely look forward to doing this again sometime VERY soon & meeting more of our pals from the DIS!!!

You are so very, very welcome, Capells!! I do rememer those days with many small children making it difficult to get out and have some adult conversation. We were delighted to you with us, and I'm sure everyone would agree that it was a group effort to make it a success!

It certainly was like we had always known each other- fun doesn't get much funner than yesterday.

Mike, sorry, I haven't been around much, I've been really struggling to find computer time at all since we left Asia. Hope to catch up very soon!

The mission in France was ok - in general though, I prefer Germany, China, the UK, and Japan - definitely much more interactivity in those 3.

Absolutely fabulous Photopass pictures. They keep getting better and better!

Copycats!!

What DH left out of his update is the fact that X and I spent 10 minutes on line so that DD could get her pic with Marie.

It was a rather unpleasant 10 minutes since X REALLY wanted to dive into the fountain in France.
I must have looked like a lunatic wrestling with a cute little toddler while trying not to loose my place in line! :rotfl:

The icing on the cake came when it was finally our turn with Marie and X had a complete meltdown,
refused to have his picture taken, and kept me from having a turn! :sad1:

After that, I handed him over to Daddy.

That's ok - he fell in line when his starting walking with the Cap'n!
He mostly was just getting very tired and little X skipped his nap that day with all the excitement.

Actually, the kids have yet to see the Aristocrats.
That's on our list of Disney movies that must be seen before we head back to the World...

Our next adventure led us over a bridge across the English Channel.
Arrgh – I recognized the Navy stronghold of Port Royal.
We’d have to blend in to avoid any unnecessary confrontation.
So we headed down the streets of the United Kingdom towards a little square tucked away in the back.
There the crew discovered a maze of hedges and proceeded to explore.
It wrapped around a gazebo which seemed to be set up for musicians to entertain.
With no musicians about, the area was quite calm and quiet.

Our maiden joined Lady and the Tramp and they went off in search of some tea and snacks while the crew continued to explore.
When the crew completed their map of the maze, I took them into the Toy Solider – a store named after that Navy scum no doubt.
We walked straight through to a small lineup in the back of the store.
The area was marked with warnings of what was to come but we paid no heed.
Large stuffed creatures were attacking a toy house but we didn’t mind.

Until we realized that those oversized Bears and Tigers were waiting for us around the corner! pooh: :tigger:
The First Mate recognized the bear at once as his favorite friendly bear from stories of old.
Disney2009PiratesPass087.jpg

The creatures grabbed the crew and I thought we were done for!
Disney2009PiratesPass089.jpg

But it was all in good fun and they let us leave in tact.
Disney2009Pirates114.jpg

The area was full of other British folklore including a story our Pirate Princess stumbled upon
Disney2009Pirates112.jpg

Complete with some blocks that magically spelled out the hero in the story.
Some magical nanny who could fly! I figure it must be dark voodoo magic…
Disney2009Pirates111.jpg

We explored the rest of the shop as well.
The First Mate found troves of stuffed replicas of that oversized bear and wanted each one as a souvenir of his encounter.
While we avoided plundering these objects, we did manage some portraits.

Disney2009Pirates117.jpg

I was drawn to another part of the shop where they showcased their weapons.
Long swords, broad swords, & shields – this must be the Navy Solider’s armory.
Pillaging some of these for our upcoming battles definitely crossed my mind.
Disney2009Pirates118.jpg

But little X was drawn to yet another area as an entire model countryside was set up complete with trains which originated from this land.
X proceeded to cause a stir with the other lads that were already present.
Apparently crewmembers of this age consider these trains a bigger haul than gold itself…
Disney2009Pirates115.jpg

Lady and the Tramp arrived with our Maiden in tow.
While they could not find the tea they were looking for, they took the crew outside to a gypsy show about to start.
I stayed behind with X as he would not budge from the table of trains.

After some time, I dragged X away kicking and screaming like he was leaving behind his best friends.
It didn’t last long, however, as soon a large red box was enough of a distraction.
He immediately went to investigate as the rest of our party went off in search of the restrooms.

X then proceeded to explore this area of the United Kingdom.
With Navy soldiers likely about, this was ill-advised but X would not say “no” – especially after discovering another fountain of youth.
Disney2009Pirates120.jpg

He immediately dove for the fountain and almost made it in if not for his captain grabbing him by the ankles.
After some splashing by the fountains and dreaming of our adventures at seas, it was time to move on.
We had pushed our luck avoiding the British Navy and I had heard tale of a purple dragon near these parts.
That be something us buccaneers needed to investigate.
Where there be dragons, there by treasure matey!
ARRGH! pirate:

Oh YAY- I am SO excited to have so many new people following our trip report!!!
HI EVERYBODY!!! :wave2:

While The Captain and his crew were investigating the toy store,
I spent some time with Lady inside one of my favorite shops in WDW: Twinnings.
I was hoping that they might carry the Mad Hatter Tea that I had enjoyed so much at the Grand Floridian Garden View Tea.
But I was out of luck.
As usual, I was tempted to buy a whole bunch of things there, and walked out with nothing at all.

Next, we came across the World Showcase Players doing a street show just outside the UK shops.
I always find that these kinds of shows depend entirely on who they "recruit" from the audience.
This time around, they had good volunteers including a clueless young woman who was unintentionally funny
just because she had no idea what was going on and couldn't keep up with the storyline.
