The "PC" Crowd is now after Curious George...

To summarize, a mother/teacher (who is an animal rights activist) is freaked out because:
1) George ("who shares 99% of our DNA" she tells us) is kidnapped from his home in the wild.
2) "Animal abuse" in general in the film.
3) The film exhibits "bad parenting" on the part of the Man In The Yellow Hat.

I can't play videos at work; can you summarize?

I'll try - the video is about Robin Roth, a California high school teacher (who -- gee --also happens to run an "animal rights" website) who has started a campaign to in essence "ban" Curious George books in schools (the fact she came out with this agenda simultaneous to the release of the movie seems a little convenient, eh?)

The basic elements or her argument?

- Curious George sets a "bad" example for kids (she uses her own child as a case study). How so?

- The story is based on "animal abuse" (the man in the Big Yellow Hat "tears" George away from his jungle home)

- - The stories are a "template" of bad parenting (too often , George is allowed to run amok, in one story getting into the drug supply at a hospital. etc.)

What was most amusing about the video was watching Ms. Roth. She's taking a simple little "literary figure" so seriously.......yep, don't worry about bird flu or Al Queda, "Curious George' is going to be the end of the civilized world.....

Not for nothing, but that's whack (as my dd would put it!). We saw the movie yesterday, and the Big Yellow Hat guy (Ted) didn't "tear" George away from his home in the jungle, George followed him onto the ship and hid in the bottom of the ship. Ted didn't even know George followed him from Africa until he saw the big yellow hat in his apartment with George hidden under it. If she's gonna attack a movie - get the facts right LOL!

I have learned that people just want to hear their own boring voices roar for now reason at all - like another poster said.. Too much time on her hands.

Ummm..........George is not a child, he is a MONKEY! Parenting and "example" should not come into the mix. You don't "parent" a monkey, you cage it or supervise it..........maybe he is a bad pet owner, but not a bad parent. I don't know any monkey who would be a good example to children.........that's why we don't teach them to behave like monkeys!

And now, our other poster has already disproven the "torn from his home" theory, so there, she has nothing left to complain about!

Idiot.

What's funny is these books have been around for how long, at least 30 years? And in the movie George isn't taken from the jungle. He follows after the Man in the Yellow Hat onto the boat. And the MitYH isn't exactly George's parent seeing as he's a monkey!

Ah, but its that 1% that makes the difference. ;)

Why don't they just ban Jack and Jill while they're at it? It promotes teen promiscuity. (What were Jack and Jill really doing at the top of the hill) It is also very violent since they both fell down the hill afterward and were seriously injured. Where were Jack and Jill's parents. Who left the hill open to children as well. Why stop there. How about Jack be Nimble? It promotes children wanting to leap over candles in a fanciful manner risking life and limb.

People need to buy a clue sometimes. It is a fictional book for goodness sake.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: That reminds me of what Jack and Jill inspired DS#3 to do. He jumped over a plunger when he was 3, the end poked him in the eye and we had an emergency room visit. I knew that book should be banned! ;)

Okay, so now I have the summary I can comment. Ahem...*clears throat*...

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
