The Parking Issue

I have read all of these pages and was confused with the point of the post. So, I am glad the above helped me out! I guess the posting the price of the trip and Nordstrom confused me. Didn't know what either had to do with parking. Realizing neither did, but OP wanted us to know he/she had a lot of money. Good for you!

no actually it isn't about him/her having a lot of money, it is about really the opposite. The OP is stating what they have spent at places, and asking does that give them the right to park in the front of a parking lot wherever they go, not that it does give him the right. OP is saying that the only place he/she has seen that is here & it doesn't seem right. At least that is what I am getting out of it. Not that they are "bragging", for all we know, they could be just stating those numbers to make a point. I don't know and don't really care. I see the point being made about the money. The more you spend, the more some think they are entitled too. There is no such thing as parking etiquette. If a CM tells you to park some place, you do not have to take the furthest spot in the lot because you aren't staying in that resort. If the CM instructs you to a different lot, sure you have to go there, but no one states you must go to the end of that lot. I think that is the OP's point.. you don't have to take the furthest spot just because you are not a "guest" at that particular resort. If you are parking there legally, you park in an open spot. Members on this board are the ones who have determined there was a parking etiquette in the hotel parking lots based on the rates of the Disney resorts as opposed to offsite resorts.

Thank you. It is only DH and I now, but we always added a day out from work after our vacation to do those things. When I am on vacation I am on VACATION. I want to be taken care of, not be doing things I do at home.

Um not the point. The point was that I should park further away because I am not a guest of the hotel and other guests have paid "big bucks" to stay there. It was to point out that even though I may not be staying at the WL I am still most likely spending 25k more than the average guest. So big bucks is a relative term.

OK....so the point is you think you should have to park farther away if you aren't a resort guest even though you are spending $30k and some of the actual guests staying there are spending a mere $5k? Right? As others have posted, why don't you just park where they tell you to when you check in at the gate and not worry about it?

What is the etiqutte on helicopters? Because I can't find a thing on helicopter parking on the Disney site and frankly the CMs seem confused on the issue.

Last time I was at CR for my Chef Mickey ADR I hovered over the parking guy's shack and tried to ask him where I could leave it if I was visiting MK after breakfast, but he just ducked and squinted from the force of the blade wind and gave me the face.

I guess you are welcome, but I am not trying to be entertaining. And I believe you were the OP of the other thread. I was just shocked that someone would tell another person how far they should park based on whether or not they are staying at that hotel.

The point was that members of these boards with high post counts (because we all know high post counts = knowledge) were telling other people that if they visit another hotel the known procedure is to find the furthest spot and park there. I found this odd and opened a discussion.

Etiquette say that you can park as close as you want and right on top of those cars...unless it's a rolls royce. then you must park as from the rolls royce as you can.

but is that really etiquette or just down right wrong.. you are not suppose to park your car there for the day so it is easier for you when you do go there to eat later in the day, or leave it there after your breakfast. The parking is for while you are dining there, not for before or after.. so there is no "park further away" etiquette for that really.. is there? That is promoting parking illegally as long as you park far enough away.

So...whenever this issue comes up, over on the Transportation board, we just say what I posted here. No one is going to prevent you from parking where you want to. If Disney had an issue with it, they would give that 3 hr parking pass and then start towing or ticketing cars after that 3 hr window was up. But they don't.

I just want to make sure I understand your logic. I am staying at GF, so paying for parking is a null point. I am not going to any theme park and am visiting the hotel for an ADR. Let's say CR. When I pull into the CR lot since I am not staying there I should look for a spot further away? Because I am not staying there?

Um...think I addressed that point. If you are shopping or eating there, you should park where you want. But it just isn't fair to take up a spot, intended for paying resort guests for more than a few hours.

Did you even read what goofy4tink wrote? Because the issue of parking at a resort to eat was addressed...and I think all that was said was "thats no problem".

Hey wait a minute.. we are not parking on any Santa fe's either now are we!!! aren't they considered a foreign car too.. just a cheap one.. that leaves more money for more trips for me.. I am here now (a 10 day trip too), sitting in the hotel room that I got on Priceline for $30.. The Country Inn & Suites, Lake Buena Vista.. I got up to late to make it to the parks early and didn't want to fight the mad rush.. the mad rush of those that think they are entitled to the "world" because they are......well some things are just better off left unsaid.

I was enjoying the various theories on what point you were trying to make. I think I understand but wouldn't bet my vacation on it!

Yes, in the other thread several people took my simple question about available parking at the BW area and turned it into an opportunity to push their personal "parking etiquette" views.

My own philosophy is to park where I like assuming it's legal (and by legal I mean per WDW, not per someone's personal opinion).

As far as where everyone else parks, I like the myob etiquette.

Do they not still give out that 3 hour limit pass when they are filled to capacity? Maybe they aren't filled to capacity. I know they use to give the pass, and I have seen a car towed once. I went thru this once before on here. It was at the Poly. I understand that if you are paying to stay at a resort, you should be able to find a spot there, but even when they give you the 3 hour, they don't instruct you on what area's to go to, the Contemporary does once in a while, but the others didn't. So if they aren't instructing you, who is to say that you should go to the furthest spot.

I know when I stayed at the Contemporary, I stayed in the South Wing. They had next to no parking at that end. That is where all the day convention people were to park, also that is where the deliveries were too, along that side. I had such a hard time parking there. The guest that were going to Chef Mickey weren't going back there to park, it was Disney's doing that caused that problem. They didn't want to hear there was no parking, they said we could "valet" if we wanted. It was free then too.. That was still far for us, very far from the south wing! I guess it does come to Disney doesn't care.. so if they don't, how can they expect the guests to.

I just have to say that I am shocked that GF self parking is so far away, considering how much you pay to stay in even a standard room.

When we go over for a meal, we use valet parking (and we usually stay at Pop)for that time period and then move to the parking lot of wherever we are going for the day.

I can bring my DH with his handicapped pass.. and not spend any money... hows them apples..
gee, can I bring him, use him, leave him in the hotel lobby then go to the parks all day.. and come back to the handicapped spot? Will that be legal .....

I am trying to understand this as I have never heard of it anywhere but the DIS. So if I am going over to the CR for dinner and drinks. When I pull into the lot etiquette would dictate that I find the spot furthest from the resort as I am not a paying guest? I'm just curious of people do this in "real life." If you only need a gallon of milk do you park far away to save spots for those doing normal shopping?

This past December when my family and I went to visit the Contemporary on two different occasions we parked as far as we could for this reason. During our many stays there in the past on some nights it was hard to get a parking spot there. So knowing that we didn't want to do that to anyone else who happen to be staying there.

Hmmmm, if i am only going to MK for MNSSHP or MVMCP then where should I park? Should I wait and park after 7pm? The time the ticket states, even though Disney allows me in at 4pm? Should day guests park in the back of the lot so when I, and other party goers are leaving at night we won't have to walk across a dark parking lot? What is the etiquitte on this one?

When we drive to another resort for an ADR, the security person at the gate sometimes tells us where to park. Not exactly what spot to park, but just the general area/lot.

If security does not tell us where to park, we go to the guest parking area, and depending on which resort we are dining, like Wilderness Lodge, there haven't been very many spots to pick from, so we would just take the first one that came along. And then we leave after we eat.

I do know that the one time we stayed at WL, when we came back to the resort later in the evening, we had a hard time finding a vacant spot to park in. As a matter of fact, one evening we circled around the guest parking lot for at least 20 minutes before one spot opened up.
