The Parking Issue

Yes! The information presented was that even if you paid, got your sticker, confirmed your ADR... the known etiquette is that you park in the further lot as to save spots for guests staying at the hotel.

This is what I am questioning.

Okay, well if that is what you are questioning, then I can give you a clear response right now -

No, it is not "known etiquette" to park in the further lot b/c you aren't staying at that resort. When you checking for an ADR, you park in the designated spots - no closer, no further away.

If you are confused as to where to park, simply ask the nice folks at the gate to the parking lot and they will direct you. Sometimes (like at GF or Boardwalk) this means that if the main lot is full you may be sent to a lot further away - this has nothing to do w/ your status or whether you're staying there or not.

I hope that helps.

Regarding the spinning - Isn't Walt frozen? :rolleyes1

We are only a family of three and it runs in the 30 range. That's not bad for 8 people.

We are a relatively well off family of 3 as well.

We drop about $15,000-20,000/year on WDW. Typically that is 2 trips and we use AP or PIN discounts.

i agree....and drives a RR...not to mention SHOPS Nordstroms.....not the faciest shop in town. It is funny though. Also why wouldn't someone who spends that 3x a year 90k just buy DVC or buy a condo down there near WDW. Obviouslky they could afford it.

Hey, in all fairness if I had more money then I knew what to do with there's no way I would be buying DVC or a condo. Who needs the money saving of DVC and putting up with the hassle of the booking windows and all that when you can afford a much nicer CL suite? And a condo? Pfffft on property for me!

(Yes, Disney vacation planning with lottery winnings has been discussed many times in my house haha)

If I had the money i would buy my own condo in Florida 9to visit WDW), what better place to stay then home. Could care less about CL service. Nothing beats that home feeling. EMH, not really important to me. Why sleep on someone elses sheets.......

NICE!!!

that's gotta take the cake because there are only a handful of rooms at the GF that are more expensive and they aren't showing up on the web site, so I guess they are booked (i.e. the Main Bldg 2-Bdrm Grand Suite - Royal Palm Club....$3145 per night the holiday week :scared1::scared1::scared1:)

I'm not going to get into finances but DVC is not for us. We like to vacation and go home. And what fun is an Orlando condo?

I have to agree with you on this part. Even if I could afford DVC or other time-share I wouldn't want it. You don't get regular Mousekeeping and who wants to do laundry & dishes on vacation. Those were the things that were brought up when we looked at these things.

I'm new here, too. But I have to respond, because the answer seems so simple...
OP - Follow the directive of the parking attendant, and if one is not available, then park in the open spot that makes the most sense to you and your situation (whether it be convenience, open spaces around your vehicle, handicapped if that applies, etc).
Etiquette alone does not dictate that any rightful patron should park in a more remote location than any other rightful patron. The key is "rightful".
This type of argument, and not just regarding parking, comes up quite a bit on the Dis. I choose to try and follow the direction of company employees and my own etiquette-instinct/opinions when making decisions, whether at WDW or anywhere else.
Although our opinions will not always jive, things would be much more "magical" if we all tried to use good intentions the majority of the time. Guess it's just a common sense thing.

I get that home feeling at home, I'd rather be spoiled on vacation, especially if I had the dollars to support it. I don't see not buying a condo or DVC as weird, they're very different from spending the money on CL suites. Don't think its comparable at all or reason to question the OP (assuming they're being honest).

Seems to me that hotel guests should use the farthest spots since it is likely their cars will occupy those spots longer. Some guests park their cars and don't touch them for days. By leaving closer spots open, it will allow more people to have short walks instead of just a few... :)

I love your son.

I am a cheap SOB who goes to the parks on a whim since I live 3 hours away. I have stayed at deluxe's & all the way down to the budget's then even further down to offsite thru Priceline & Hotwire...:thumbsup2 I drive a Foreign car too! It is called a Santa Fe :lmao: I shop at all the best stores as well, I may only window shop there, then go to Ross/Marshall's & TJ Maxx to purchase, but hey, I love my life.. I park next to the best cars around.. after all, I don't want my foreign car banged up either! I own my car, not the bank.. I own my home, not the bank.

When I go to one of the resorts to to eat, I don't make an ADR.. I just show up with the hopes of getting in.. I park where I am told to park by the CM, closest one I can get. Sometimes, that is if my husband is with me, I park in the handicapped zone since he has the pass.. I don't give a darn where I have to park, I go where I am instructed and thank God I have the health still in me to walk. Money don't mean didley when you do not have the means....
people need to thank their blessings for what they have, and not what they feel they are entitled too. Many do feel that they have paid mucho bucks so they can do as they please.. nope, the world doesn't work that way. You do as you are instructed to do.. and nothing more.. if there is no instruction (as in no CM telling you where to park), your $$$ isn't any greener than mine...

oh, and by the way, just because you are here on vacation & have an out of town license plate, don't think you are going to push me off the road because you are in a hurry to get to the parks, don't work that way either. Don't cut me off, don't tailgate me.. your money isn't going to get you out of the tickets that the OCS is going to give you. I had to laugh on Saturday at the trap that was set up on I-4 near the I-drive exit. There must have been at least 10 cars pulled over.. :lmao: people from out of State cannot read the speed signs on I-4.. :lmao::lmao::lmao: That one really made my day :cool1: Yep, your money isn't any greener than mine...

Something really irked me the other day regarding the parking thread. We are an affluent family of three and visit the world 2-3 times a year. We always stay at the GF CL and once we add in a few rounds of golf, spa for the wife, etc… our trips easily exceed 30k a time. Then it got me thinking, should I demand a close spot because we are on the CL level? Should there be a standard room parking lot? Can I demand the make and model of any car parked next to our RR?

I mean when did this become common courtesy? On Saturday, I needed new shoes, so off I went to Nordstrom (Toms by the way are fabulous) should I have had security move cars for mall guest that are spending real money? Should I get the very first spot at Whole Foods because our weekly grocery bill exceeds what other people make in a month?

Never in my wildest dreams have I ever demanded that someone should park on the other side of a lot because it is common courtesy. Parking to me is the luck of the draw and I have only seen issues here on the DIS. I guess we should be careful what we wish for; as do we really want parking segregated by resort guests, class of guest and $ spent. If so, a lot of people are going to be on the outside looking in.
I do get the drift of your post.. and understand exactly what you are saying. It isn't about what you spend. It is about parking. If it matters, I don't think you are a troll :goodvibes

people.. get off OP's case on what he spends on a trip.. it is here for the purpose of making a point, not about discounts. The point is, is parking closer based on what you spend? Not, about discounts.. and not about what resort you are staying at persay.. but the almighty dollar that is coming out of your pocket.. but some of you cannot see that because you are tearing OP apart.

Over the last two weeks, two very Sr. members of these boards have stated that known etiquette is that if you are not staying at the resort you should park further away even if open spots are available.

I never knew this and wanted to know if others did this as well.

I have no issues with your original question, in fact I think it is valid given the posts you were referring to. I do however have an issue with the term "Sr. members". I've found, the number of posts an individual has and the length of time they've been members of these boards means little when it comes to their knowledge about Disney. They may know a lot, or they may have a lot of their own opinions (even if their opinions are based on their experiences).

I've been with these boards since the late nineties (regardless of what it says on my profile, I changed my name). I reference these boards and others regularly, I add to topics I think I can add something to – but I don't talk for the sake of talking or arguing. I also travel to WDW 2-3 times a year (I won't tell you how much I spend but I know it's easy to blow money), I am a stock holder, I work with Disney Travel, DCL, WDW and DL Resorts and Yellow Shoe – I have a lot of insider information. I would never claim to KNOW what is or isn't 100% acceptable. Sadly even if there are written rules, different CMs on different days may give you a completely different story. I am certain if you visit as often as you do, you already know this and their for I call you a devils advocate (which I don't think is a bad thing.)
