The one with the Nationwide Commercial (June 4th Wonder -- finshed, 07/17)

Jennifer,
Did you book your next cruise while on board? And if so, if you don't mind my asking what kind of discount does this give you?
Thanks,
Melanie

Jennifer,

Love the report! It's reminded me how much I dearly loved our Disney Cruise. It's been almost 1½ years. It seems like an enternity. Thanks for bringing back all those great memories!!

Hi, Jennifer.

Love your report! We're finally booked on our first ever cruise immediately following Thanksgiving in 2007. We're doing the 4-night, too, so this is great info. for me - now, I just need to delve into the DCL board to get all this great info. you managed to soak up. If you've got any tips or cheat sheets you'd like to share, I'd love to have them. I'm religiously reading my Passporter...

Keep up the good read!

Hi Jennifer! Thanks for the information....especially about the snorkel cruise. We are scheduled to do that, too. I am reading every word as we sail on July 16! (Leave for DisneyWorld on July 12)

P.S. Congrats on passing the NCLEX. I'm a nurse who went through that stress a while back. The agony and worry fade, but the memory doesn't!

Jennifer -

I just read your last installment - and I can't believe you doubted me when I told you it was the best meal of my life!!!! Glad you agree now!!!

Can't wait to hear more!!

Well, this might just be longer than the length of time it took to finish my December trip report! I didn't forget about it, I just had a few scheduling errors at work and did almost 60 hours in 4 days. Fun, huh... especially since that doesn't count as overtime

Anyway.... I'm doing this today. Hopefully all the rest, but at least the next installment. I also have a million things to catch up on in real life, so we'll see if I can get this done quickly. Then I won't have to feel guilty anymore about putting it off! :thumbsup2

Wednesday - Sea Day

This morning I woke up around 7am, but decided to let Kyle sleep in for once. This was, after all, vacation. And to some people, I hear vacations are supposed to be for relaxing :confused3

So I headed to guest services to get a few things sqaured away for the day. The gratuity process was really easy. I'm not sure if it was the DIS or Passporter that said to get their early and avoid lines, but whoever said it was right on. Throughout the day, more and more people had things to take care of with guest services. It only took me about 2 minutes that early in the morning! :thumbsup2 While I was there, I also asked for the Hidden Mickeys Challenge, and Self-Guided Art tour. Well, she handed me the HMC quickly, and then had NO idea what I was talking about with the other. I had printed out a list of tips from the ever-growing DCL Tips thread on this board. One of them that sounded particularly interesting for our day at sea, was a walking tour of all the art onboard. Apparently the poster forgot to mention (or perhaps didn't realize) that this is only on the Magic. When I reread my passporter a few weeks later (we booked a different crusie, you know -- I have to read up! ;) ), it clearly spells that out.

But the sweet CM at Guest Services pretended to know what I was talking about and proceeded to hand me the "Fact Sheet" about the ship. You know, the one with the weight, number of rooms, etc? Yeah, not so sure how that related...... but I politely thanked her and gave up. Good thing, since it didn't even exist on that ship :)

I ate breakfast at BBB (of course), filled up our sodas, and brought Kyle back a bit to eat. At about 9:00, he was awake and ready to go. Ironically, it was almost time for Pajama Bingo. We had decided we HAD to go, since we hadn't made it to one bingo yet. Well, you get a prize if you come in your PJ's, so of course we had to! For those people that sleep in a bit, this was perhaps a bit less goofy. But Kyle found it a little odd that I was making him change OUT of his clothes and back INTO pajamas at 10:00 in the morning. Just play along, honey, this is fun :) So off to wavebands we went...

Michael was running the bingo, and Melanie was assisting (as well as another gal, but I can't remember her name  ). These two were the ones we had hung out with in Studio Sea for karaoke on the first night, so I was pleased to see them again. Partly because they were really nice, but mainly because Michael was freakin' adorable. We lost every game, which made Kyle a little smug (he hates anything that resembles throwing money away), but we both had a good time.

After bingo, we went back to the room and "got ready" for the day (ie changed BACK into our clothes, as everything else was done). We started to do the Hidden Mickey's Challenge, but let me just warn you of this before you go. If you have kids, I'm guessing it can be a lot of fun. It will definitely teach them reading, and critical thinking, etc. But the Mickey's are SO not hidden. They are what Mr. Barrett would call 'decorative mickey's. And maybe not even that. We're talking, for example, "The Mickey Pool". So that didn't last long, as we didn't really feel like walking the ship searching for things we had already seen, photographed, etc just by walking by ;)

Later that afternoon, I wanted to go to the DVC presentation while Kyle relaxed on Deck 4. I didn't go to hear about DVC, as I'm quite sure I know more about it than that guide did (or he's a big fat liar, one of the two)..... but because I needed to win the $300 shipboard credit, you know?

I didn't win the credit. I didn't win ANYTHING, even though he probably gave out about 30 things to 35 people. But I did run into the couple from dinner, again. Kyle and I found that quite amusing, and said - yet again - that we should probably introduce ourselves since we obviously have a lot in common, as we have seen them at nearly EVERY event/place/activity since the first night of this trip!

After the presentation got done a bit early, I headed to Deck 4 to meet up with Kyle. We had about 15 minutes until we planned on meeting for lunch, so I grabbed a chair next to him and read a bit. Those 15 minutes were SO peaceful, so serene. There was not a person nearby, and we just sat on the deck chairs (the most comfortable ones on board, by the way), and watched the breathtaking blue ocean roll by. I think I could cruise every week, and never cease to be amazed.

Wednesday, cont'd

At about 1:30 we headed up to BBB for lunch. I had read it would be the oriental buffet, but maybe that doesn't happen anymore :confused3 They actually had, in our opinions, a rather crappy selection that day. I ate virtually nothing, and Kyle didn't do much better. I'm not sure what happened. No problem though -- I'll just have dessert for lunch! :teeth:

I didn't even like any of those! I swear we tried about 5, and couldn't even eat them :confused3

Oh well! I don't think we suffered from it overall. I'm quite sure we had enough stored energy from the previous several meals

At 2:00pm we met outside of Triton's for the galley tour. Kyle and I both thought this sounded really cool. Has anyone done it that enjoyed it? We are wondering if it was maybe just our group, or our chef, or what. But it was DREADFULLY boring. It was literally almost 90 minutes long (which I was not expecting), and I can't even remember what we talked about. Not to mention the fact that it was so cold I couldn't stop shivering! I realize that it has to be that way, because it will get much warmer with those giant ovens running..... but it wasn't our favorite part of the trip, that's for sure. Next time I think we'll just peek into it from above, and be satisfied with that :)

So obviously this was the first few happenings that left a lot to be desired. Not too bad, considering everything else was way beyond our expectations, if not absolutely perfect. So we laughed it off, stored a mental note not to try that again, and headed for Scoops! I hadn't had any ice cream yet, you know? I mean other than Mickey Bars each night. But not any from Scoops!

I had bowl of twist ice cream with sprinkles and marshmallows! Are there usually syrups here as well? I was a bit surprised that there were only 2 options for toppings, but my ice cream was quite tasty! :goodvibes

We spent about half an hour on the 'secret' Deck 7 verandah (which was EMPTY, even on a sea day!) before heading back to the room to hang out a bit before getting ready for dinner. When we got there, Kyle had all kinds of gifts out on the bed! The day before was our anniversary, but we had more downtime today so he had waited. He even got a card! Don't get me wrong. Kyle is my favorite person in the world, and I think on an almost daily basis about how incredibly blessed I am to have found him. Really! But he doesn't tend to see the importance of acknowledging some holidays as much as I think he should ;) He never forgets them. But most birthdays and anniversaries find the "Happy ________, what do you want to do?" Or "Where do you want to go to dinner?" I can't complain, because he probably used up all of his romantic planning brain cells for the proposal and it will take a while to regenerate more.... but that's another story :) So needless to say, this was all quite unexpected!

I opened the card first, which was adorable and also very sweet. He also got me the cookbook I have wanted for years, and a beautiful silver Mickey necklace. I had been looking for one for ages to replace a necklace I used to wear on a daily basis, that now holds little meaning to me after college. I could never really find one I liked, but this one is absolutely perfect! I'll see if I can find or take a picture of it to share. It's very simple but I love it! And then there was one more box. It was the Lennox sculpted figurine "Minnie's Dream Wedding". He said he had debated over and over buying it on our honeymoon, but we REALLY didn't have the money then. It's absolutely beautiful, and was the first thing to find a home when we moved into our empty house

Dinner tonight was at Animator's Palate. I had waited the whole trip for this restaurant, and was NOT disappointed. It was absolutely magical. Or it would have been, had I not been poked and prodded and kicked and annoyed but a child I barely knew. But it was still mostly magical!

We then went to Diversions for a few minutes before our final show, Disney Dreams. Theatrically, this is hands-down the best show on the Wonder. The sets are beautiful, the story is very cute, and "our" Peter Pan was too good for words. We still preferred Golden Mickeys, but this show was a perfect ending to a perfect trip. It certainly was a shining Disney moment. Well, ok, like 45 moments. You know what I mean :)

Cruise Director Andy had a few parting thanks and instructions for us, which pretty much ruined our already melancholy evening ;) It was nice to see him, along with Captain Henry, but we were seriously annoyed that they were making us get off the boat! ::yes::

Pub Night followed, to finish off the night. If you haven't been to Pub Night, you are really missing out. For those of you that haven't heard what it is, adults are invited to meet in Diversions for their own private "send off" from the Cast of the Wonder that we have grown to know and enjoy. We had a sing-a-long (for real!), complete with hand motions and dancing and then they performed a hilarious skit, that had us practically rolling in the aisle.

Before this all started though, we saw The Dinner Couple walk into the room. They saw us, we finally introduced ourselves and invited them to sit with us in the big round booths at the back of the room. We all piled our plates full of Nachos (from the little nacho buffet :thumbsup2 ) and got to talking. They even had real names, Pamela and Jeremy! They were on their honeymoon, following a few days at the parks. They were both students when they got married, so struggled to pay for it but felt it was worth the splurge anyway (hmm, sounded familiar). They were from Pittsburgh, so were very interested to know our history with Ben, and were relieved that we wouldn't hate them because we are from Cincinnati. Pamela is a bit of a planner, and is slowly turning Jeremy on to the REAL way to experience Disney. As in, every waking moment of your life ;) They had thought about relocating to Florida so she could possibly perform at the parks. I swear, everything about them was like talking to ourselves. We hit it off immediately and were able to talk like we had known each other forever. Imagine how freaking annoyed we were that nobody had the guts to say hello earlier!!! :sad2: And it just got worse when we came to the realization that it would have been a good excuse to get away from our equally insane tablemates, if we "knew eachother"!!! How sad is that? And I am not a shy person, so we had NO explanation as to why we didn't bug one another sooner. So we exchanged emails, shook our heads in disbelief a few more times, whined together about having to leave the next morning, and eventually called it a night.

I actually planned on having the willpower to walk away from the computer and get to work around here, until I realized HOW CLOSE I am to the end. So here it is, the final installment :)

Thursday -- debarkation

5:45 came awfully early. It's actually later than we are used to getting up, but it's just one of those things. You can wake up an hour after sleeping if you're headed TO Disney, or somewhere fun. But the morning that it all ends, always comes too quickly. :guilty:

We had put our suitcases out the evening before, so there wasn't a lot to do in the morning. We made it to breakfast at AP by 6:30am. I can't really remember much about it, except that we said goodbye to Pam and Jeremy, ignored the rush to get off the boat, and then headed back to the room for a bit. We hung out, watched a little Nemo, triple checked all the drawers, crevices, etc for anything left behind, and headed off the ship around 8:15. By the way, the ONE thing we needed to carry off the ship besides a bag with toiletries and last nights clothes, was my adorable purse from the Disney store that I bought specifically for this trip. I hung it on the hook by the bathroom so it would hit us in the head on the way out, and there it stayed. Thankfully there was nothing in it except a few Nassau maps (I hope!). I did have to buy another one though, which was pretty annoying. Classic Jennifer though, I must admit. I have a thing with leaving purses behind, which is why I tend to not carry them. That's why Kyle has pockets :goodvibes

The luggage retrieval was completely painless. We found our color-coded area, all of our bags were together, and we "went through customs" (really, they can call it that? ;) ) and headed to our shuttle. :guilty:

Awesome report, Jennifer. Can't wait to see more pictures too!

Thursday, cont'd

Back on land, things went smoothly the rest of the day. The Avis people were infinitely nicer and more competent than the Budget people we had worked with a few days earlier, and we were off to Orlando in no time. How many of you have driven into those Walt Disney World gates just to stay for a few hours? I mean, those of you that DON'T live in Florida?

If so, then you know the torture! :rotfl: It was practically depressing driving through there and not being able to get very excited. We could see the entrance to some of our favorite places, and could do nothing about it! It was horrific! Ok, maybe not that bad. At least we got to SEE those places, but it made me realize how stinkin' far away our next trip is. I mean, a REAL trip, not marathon weekend. That's far away enough, and we aren't even staying a decent number of days.

We spent some time in DTD, went for our scheduled DVC tour (SSR is beautiful, by the way!), walked around the boardwalk, and just relaxed doing all the things we never get around to when we are doing the parks. It was kind of nice, albeit miserably hot. We called home and they were having record cools, as the sweat poured off of us. So that was one thing that helped us look forward to the return home.

Who am I kidding, we were SO not looking forward to it! Even with the closing of the house, etc, we just wanted to stay here, at Disney, where everything is always fine and real life doesn't seem to matter :cloud9:

We spoke with our closing agent, as well as our mortgage guy, and everything was taken care of for the closing tomorrow. At 5:00 we said goodbye to Mickey (well, not in person unfortunately) and headed for MCO. We were really early, but were just completely exhausted. At MCO we had a little scare when our new home counselor called us and said we needed to stop by the office to sign something that we had TRIED to sign weeks before, to no avail. If we couldn't come by this evening there would be a big problem tomorrow morning. Hello, we are in Florida. You know this. Get your butt to the title office tomorrow, since it was your screw up anyway. This lady is horrible. Seriously. The best part of closing on the house might just have been not having to deal with her anymore

So here we are, mid-July. We are settled into our house, although it still needs paint almost everywhere and some rooms are still seriously lacking in furniture. I have started my job, and Kyle his residency -- so we see each other every so often, spend a few hours together here and there.... back to real life.

Our computer/scrapbooking room was one of the first rooms to be finished, minus the paint. It is practically plastered with pictures of our Disney trips, and pictures from this, our first cruise. We have yet to find time to sit down with our families and tell them anything about the trip, but talk about it to one another on a regular basis. We are booked on the Magic in September of 2007, and are holding out all hope that Kyle's vacation is granted for this time frame (which we won't know until next Spring).

Getting off the plane at MCO, if you recall, I was in a real funk. I knew that - while this cruise would be great - this trip could never satisfy that Disney longing. You know the one I'm talking about, don't pretend you don't ;) I wondered what in the world I was thinking booking the cruise instead of a week at the World. Could this really compare?

Well, it does. I'm quite sure we'll never stop going to WDW on a regular basis. In fact, I'm also sure it will be way more often than a cruise, since it is so much more affordable. But this cruise, and hopefully many more to come, gave us some memories that we will absolutely hold in our hearts, right up along with all the other Disney memories we have created. :goodvibes

Thanks for reading along with as I recounted this trip! I appreciate your patience as I hashed out all the details for us to recall as we find ourselves busier and busier! It's been fun :teeth:
