The one with the Nationwide Commercial (June 4th Wonder -- finshed, 07/17)

Thanks! I couldn't believe how long some of the segments have been, but I really don't know where to trim! All the details are so important to me! Lol...

I appreciate the 'support'! ;) I'll write more tomorrow, I promise! :thumbsup2

Great report! :thumbsup2 Keep it coming and don't trim a thing!!! :teeth:

Tink2020, hi, just jumping in to catch up on your report. We sailed the same cruise and had the same servers, how funny, we were late seating though. Do you remember your table #, because I swear it must have been the same, very loud the first night. Looking forward to the rest of the report.

Great Report. Keep it coming. I have never been on a cruise and this makes me want to go on one now.

We were at table 75. In PC (the first night anyway), I want to say tables 74-76 were together or something like that. :goodvibes

LOL
I'm kidding!!!! :)
Loved your trip report so far- can't wait for the rest. :)
Ooh, loving your pictures so far too! Can't believe you got him to sing karaoke onboard... in my dreams could I get DH to do such a thing. LOL

Well, techinically it's day two of OUR trip (and corresponding pictures), just not day 2 of the cruise ;) Sorry for the confusion!

And as for the karaoke, we are both karaoke junkies! We used to go weekly in undergrad, and monthly more recently with a few friends.... but hadn't been in about 6 months. So it was easy getting him up there! He did only sing one song, though, plus one with me ;)

Keep on writing! I don't care if it's long or not, I love all the details of a cruise report. :goodvibes

Monday -- Nassau

First of all, can I just say that I am listening to the sail-away songs now (thanks again, Beano! :thumbsup2 ) and still wish so very much that we were still on that ship! :guilty: Oh, well! Gotta work to pay for the next one, right? ;)

Monday morning, Mickey woke us up again bright and early! Kyle actually went for a run on Deck 4, while I watched a bit of The Little Mermaid. I liked my idea better :teeth:

Ok. So if we thought the lunch buffet on embarkation was pretty cool, the breakfast buffets are out of this WORLD! And I'm so not a breakfast person! They had everything you could imagine. Your standard cereals, milks, juices, etc plus so much more. Fresh fruit, DRIED fruit, deli meats including several varieties of fresh salmon, a giant mountain of donuts (my kind of breakfast!), a bagel station, an omelet station (where you could also get just eggs, cooked to order), biscuits and gravy, grits, all sorts of breakfast meats, mickey waffles (regular and chocolate), pancakes (blueberry and plain)... am I forgetting anything else? It was nuts! We ate quite well in the mornings. Now I can see why people like character breakfasts, if this is a typical Disney breakfast buffet! We always avoided them because "we aren't breakfast people". This cruise may have changed that. :thumbsup2

After our fantastic breakfast, we rolled ourselves back to the room to slather on the sunscreen. It was time to snorkel! We looked at the navigator a bit, and let me just tell you -- if you're staying on board during the ports of call, there is SO much to do on the ship! But we didn't stay, so back to our trip ;)

On the way to our meeting point, we ran into Peter Pan and Wendy, before they really got set up -- so we actually took a minute to say hi! Man, the lines for characters on the ships are UNBELIEVABLE! At least on our trip, thus the pictures of characters minus Kyle and/or Jennifer  I'm not sure we've run into Peter and Wendy before, but these two were excellent. You know what I'm talking about, when some of them are just spot on, you know you've met the real ones! :thumbsup2

I'm sure this is typical of most cruiselines, but we were so impressed with how efficient the process was for shore excursions. Our group was meeting in Studio Sea (with Melanie again, who was a blast!). We got matching Flounder stickers, which corresponded to her Flounder paddle so we could stay as a group. They also provide towels for each guest, so no need to bring your own (oops). Within a few minutes, we were on our way to the gangway! "Hey Kyle, there's that couple from dinner!" Shy, slightly awkward glances and quick hellos

We did the Catamaran Sail and Reef Snorkel excursion, with Disney. We had looked at the Caribbean Queen one, but liked the fact that this one left first thing in the morning, and we'd still have time to explore the port later. I'm really glad we did this one, unless we hear even better things about the other. It was fantastic! We got to the catamaran, handed in our tickets, and found a seat on the front nets. We talked a bit with the people around us, and soon were on our way! We made our way out of Nassau harbor and into the absolutely beautiful blue waters of the caribbean. We were dumbfounded that this is the same Ocean we swim in so frequently! It's always so much prettier out here!

On the boat, we were given snorkel gear for fitting. There was also fun music in the background, so everyone seemed pretty excited! When we got to our destination, it was into the water for some fun! I would say we had about 45 minutes off the boat, which is really impressive for a guided excursion, if you ask me! The snorkeling was only so-so, but I'm thinking that's most places around the bahamas. The water is so crystal clear, though, so even just the reefs, etc were beautiful! We saw several small schools of fish, a larger fish (can you tell I have no idea what kind they were :rotfl: ) that we watched for a bit and listened to as he was eating :teeth:, and a few others.

I was having a heck of a time with my mask, so since then I've purchased new snorkel gear for myself! I had some as a kid, but figured the stuff they handed out should be fine. Well, I must have a funny-shaped face or something, because we could NOT get a seal for anything! That was a bit frustrating, so I headed in about 10 minutes early, I had had enough. Of course, this is when Kyle would have snapped a few decent shots, had I left him the camera  He saw one large grouper, that was much bigger than the rest of the things we had seen. He also came to me for the camera, but a minute too late. He wanted to get a really cool shot of the small zebra-looking fish that were eating from the barnacles on the bottom of the boat. Again, it's the little things that get us! ;)

After we were finished snorkeling, we were back on the boat for a beautiful trip back. How come the trip back is always so much faster?! :confused3 We were really impressed, because the "rum punch and other beverages" offered on the ship were unlimited, and they even brought them to us in our seats! That was certainly above and beyond any other catamaran type cruise we've been on (mostly in South Carolina and surrounding islands). I would say that if you're going to do a snorkeling excursion on the 3- or 4-day cruises, this is the one! We had a really great time, and felt it was well worth the money -- even despite small fish and stupid face-shapes! :goodvibes

Monday cont'd

When we arrived back to the port, a CM from the ship was waiting for us to pick up our towels, so we wouldn't have to lug them around if we weren't going back to the ship! :thumbsup2 Ok, so I realize that this helps them too, so they get all of their towels back. But ours was the only cruise line that did this, so we were pretty pleased. We thought it was a nice touch, even though we WERE going back to the ship, and planning on taking our towels with us :)

As we were walking back to the ship (and a few times before, when we had seen commanding views of the port from various places around the city), we REALLY felt that amazement and sense of pride at "our ship". It truly was head and shoulders above the rest in the port. Other people that would walk by were overheard saying things like, "wow. look at that disney ship". It's really just too beautiful for comparison. You all were right!

Getting back on and off the ship was a breeze! We had worried a bit about how difficult or time-consuming it might be, but had been told it was no problem. Go figure, the DIS is right again. It was so nice having all of your experience before we left! :teeth: We ate a quick lunch from the poolside restaurants (Kyle had a burger and fries from Pluto's that he enjoyed, I had pizza from Pinocchio's which I didn't really enjoy  ) and we headed back to the room to change. We spent about 35 minutes here, and were set to head back out to port. The clear blue skies had turned a little grey, but there was only supposed to be a little rain, if any, so no worries! :goodvibes

I, for one, don't mind Nassau. It gets SUCH a bad reputation around here, so let me just add my two cents. If you think it's going to be a beautiful island paradise, relaxing resort-style beaches, upscale dining, etc you'll probably be disappointed. This isn't St. John. The thing we love about it though, is the CULTURE. Sure, you have people hawking their wares every two feet. You might have people that are quite possibly a little off following you a few feet trying to offer you guided tours for a small fee. But to me, that's part of travel. One of my favorite experiences from a trip to Israel I took in high school is walking through a market not all that unlike the straw market (except for the "goods"). It was hectic, it was pure chaos, it was a bit overwhelming for a 13-year-old. It was even sad at times, when you see children whose lives are spent working a particular street asking for help. But that's life, and I think these experiences are just as enriching as the days soaking up the sun and being catered to on private beaches. Just my opinion, of course.

So anyway, we obviously walked around the town a bit, hit the straw market, etc. There are also fabulous jewelry stores here, and had we be prepared for that, we might have bought several diamonds or something. Well, had we known, and had we had money to blow. ;) But the prices were really spectacular, so if you ARE in the market for good jewelry, bring that money along with you! :thumbsup2

We spent most of our time, however, exploring a bit farther. I brought my passporter page with the walking tour of the city, but found it wasn't very specific (sorry, we love the book otherwise!) so we ended up partially following it and partially making up our own route. For reasons mentioned above, this was one of our favorite parts of the trip, albeit off the beaten path for sure. We got to see really neat tourist-type sights, such as the water tower, queens and princess staircases, government house and parliament house, Fort Fincastle, etc. But we also saw the homes, the banks, the cars, the parks that the natives see and experience every day. As long as you keep your head about you, Nassau is very different from where you and I live (probably. I obviously don't know where all of you live ;) ), but it was fine. It was safe, which I think a lot of people wonder about. It was just really cool, to us anyway.

Well, minus the weather. :sad2:

As soon as we got just about as far away from the ship as we could, the skies opened up. It was my own fault, but I had on shoes that were NOT great for running in the rain, as well as a REALLY cute purse from the Disney Store that apparently bleeds when it gets wet. So I was NOT happy about the rain. We stayed under the Bank of Canada ledge for about 15 minutes, while I complained a bit and Kyle tried to convince me there was nothing he could do about it  When it slowed down, we'd set off a bit more on our journey. This happened about 6 more times, but we were finally back at Bay Street. Well, close. The rain looked like it wasn't going to stop soon, so we hightailed it back to the Straw Market. It may not be the best place to just hang out, but there's a roof (sort of) and at least something to look at! :rotfl:

Once the water and wind had found us inside the middle of the huge tent structure, and we were soaked to the bone anyway, we just ran - in a full-out downpour - all the way back to the ship. They really don't get all that close to the action, if you ask me now that I ran back in the rain ;)

Great report Jennifer. I'm enjoying reading it. Now I want to go on a cruise but I need to wait until my kids are a bit older!

Monday, cont'd

Back in our room (and into dry clothes!), we were eager to try out the "tastes of the Bahamas" that we had picked out. I had selected a chocolate rum cake -- oh my gosh. It was so moist, and had such a fantastic flavor, that I ate 99% of it in about a minute. We did get the baby one, just so you aren't thinking I ate a huge cake that quickly ;) It was smaller than my average slice of cake at home! :teeth: The other 1% Kyle ate, because that's all I was giving up. He doesn't like chocolate that much anyway. :confused3 Seriously, the man's nuts! ;)

Kyle had chosen Kalik, a Bahamian beer, after we heard a man order it on our catamaran trip. This was outstanding as well! No wonder that guy was so excited they had it onboard! I'm never good at explaining beers, so I will just suggest that if you like any, try this one when you are there. Kyle thought it tasted like Corona, but I'm not so sure. It certainly tasted more like Corona than a typical domestic beer, but I liked Kalik better. And I do like Corona a lot, so that is saying something. :goodvibes

By now, it was about 3:00. Kyle stayed in the room to watch a little TV and relax a bit, while I went upstairs to get online. There was an art auction going on at the time, and I was REALLY interested in it. There just aren't enough hours in the day, I swear! While online, I found out that I passed my NCLEX and that our mortgage loan was officially finalized, so I was one HAPPY happy girl!

Back to the room to share the good news with Kyle, take a quick shower, and get ready for dinner. We stopped in the lobby for a few pictures OF the characters in their formalwear. We also got a few pictures taken of us, and then it was dinner at Triton's.

This restaurant is really pretty! Again, I think our overall dinner experiences would have been a bit better under different circumstances :rolleyes1 but we tried to make the best of it. I loved the lighting effects that make you feel you are under the sea. The mosaic is absolutely breathtaking. Yordan said it was put together by hand, over a 6-month period!

I don't remember what Kyle had, but I know all of the food was excellent. I had the tomato and basil soup, herb-crusted halibut (with some more yummy potatoes, different variety ;) ) and a white chocolate dome for dessert. Ok, fine. TWO white chocolate domes. :teeth:

After dinner, we headed to the Cadillac Lounge again, and then to our evening show. Tonight was Hercules, the Museical. It was ok, but I still wasn't overly impressed with the shows. The kids enjoyed it thoroughly, but I was looking forward to the next two shows much more! By the way, Peter Pan was playing the role of young Herc! Who'd have thought that besides taking part in all those adventures, he is a talented actor as well! :thumbsup2 The Cast of the Disney Wonder really did do an excellent job in all of their various roles! :dance3: ::yes::

After the show, Kyle and I went to Wavebands for "romantic music". Ok, that's what was going on, but we mostly went to get a good seat for Mike Super's adult show :thumbsup2 This was a blast, as was expected. Afterwards, we hung around for 80's night. DCL does a spectacular job with these theme nights, do they not?! We were again blown away. One of my favorite nights at a local uptown business in college (formerly First Run, anyone? Amy? ;) ) was 80's night. I hold a special place in my heart for that dump, so I wasn't sure what to expect in Wavebands.

How stinkin' cool are their decade nights, though?! We aren't talking a DJ spinning some 80's tunes while people may or may not dance. They had the perfect mix of 80's tunes with 80's music videos playing (wow! seriously, those were cool?! ;) ), 80's tunes with some dancers performing, and 80's tunes performed BY the in-house band, High Frequency. On top of that, they had trivia questions thrown in, and a lip-syncing contest with people from the ship performing as Bon Jovi and The Go-Gos! We had so much fun there, until Kyle pooped out on me. Which was really much to early for my liking, prompting me to immediately start planning in my head, a girls-only cruise with some of my former 80's night pals :goodvibes

Since we went to the room kind of early (where we were greeted by a GIANT lobster on our bed  ;) ), I was able to read a little, including the "backstory" of Castaway Cay. How cool! Disney has it's own pre-show for that 'attraction' even! If you haven't read it, I suggest you do before your next trip there! It makes all the little shops and sights even more cool! :thumbsup2

Way cool trip so far!!! Maybe I can convince Cassidy this is what she wants to do for graduation....4 years is enough to save for it right? :teeth:

I'm loving your trip report. I can't wait for more installments. The pictures are beautiful. You can definitely tell that you took "pride" in "your" Disney ship. Loving  all the different angles of the ship.

:rotfl: Yeah, there's more of that later, too. I couldn't get enough! I think they'll come in handy for scrapping, though. And for framing, if we ever get pictures up around the house! :thumbsup2

Thank you for all the detail...I can't wait to cruise. Only 69 days to go
