The old River Country

:goodvibes Just a reminder someone asked "CAN YOU GO OVER TO RIVER COUNTRY"

WOW just think of the parties we could have over there. Otters are afraid to enter. :cool1::cool1:

Are there any entrance signs or anything still visible? For some reason I seem to recall a rolling steel drum that said River Country on the side. However, it's very possible that my memory is incorrect.

Here is a post about the water tanker that you are thinking of:

For as long as I have been going to the Fort, this old wagon has sat next to the playground by the Marina:

As you can see, it used to be painted to promote River Country. Notice the Musket Mickey logo on the end.

The wagon still sits in the same spot, but is no longer painted with any reference to River Country:

Can you watch the parade on water from River country???????

No. The only part of the old River County area that is accessible to guests is the old entry area, and the central area that is around the old Pop's Place restaurant. Everything else is fenced off.

You can watch the Electric Water Pageant from Clementine's Beach, which is adjacent to the River Country entrance.

BOY !!!!! Did my wife, shirley 38 hit a nerve with this post. I think the family spent more quality DIS time in River Country, than the theme parks.

The pics you gals & guys posted on this subject, had me a bit teary eyed.

Memories, memories.

:cool1:Very interesting take on it. Never thought about the transportation thing.
Awesome......

I could be wrong & I don't have the time right now to do the research, but wasn't RC closed due to an Orlando ordinance saying that all water parks had to use municipal water? For some reason I remember somebody saying that retrofitting RC to use municipal water would of been too expensive, so therefore they closed it. Anybody else remember that?

On my first visit to WDW in 98, my wife & I only had time to visit 2 of the 3 water parks. We went to TL & BB. I wish we would of went to RC instead of BB, oh well...

Well, unless the fence is open wide enough for a 14 yr. old to fit through, lol.
My son ventured back there in june, full of weeds, snakes, green water, spider webs. I posted these before but thought i'd post them again.

I just don't get it. OPEN THE PLACE & the pool. Most of the resorts have the lake around them some of the have a beach connected to it.

People do not go into the water. Just fence it off and open some part of river country.

I don't know how to do a poll but maybe someone could put one on this thread.

RIVER COUNTRY LOVER FOREVER.

:surfweb: I agree!! - especailly where the pool at FW is less than desireable (compared to the resorts). I haven't read all the posts yet, but I went there many times as a kid and had a blast!! Minus the fact that you could get some weird and nasty parasite from the water... We stayed at FW 5 years ago and took a sneak peak at the "ruins" . It was very sad to see it all go to waste. I think Disney scavanged some of the decor from RC for esthetics and things at BTMRR and Splash Mtn... popcorn::
