The offsite onsite question...

Hmmm, looking at the list of DISers going in August, I can see that 99% of you will be staying onsite. I certainly feel like an outsider (2nd post, btw) about being at the Maingate Hojo (4th-8th August).

Factoring our airfare (Expedia deal for 2 persons), four nights stay only cost us about $65 (that's $65 for all four nights). If I had chosen a Disney accomodation, the price would have gone up by $400. Considering I am planning 2 days at WDW, 1 and UF and one at SW... that extra amount will almost pay for all the park tickets.

So, did I make a good decision, or will I regret not staying at a Disney resort...?

P.S. I'm 24 and going their with my girlfriend... (besides the inner child in me) no kids.

I've always tried to stay on-sight .But traveling with 10 to 15 others for Paintball sometimes thats just not possible.

Your stay is also very small compaired to most but thats not a big deal either.

2 days at the World is still better then none and thats the big thing.

Have fun and remember it's YOUR vacation not ours we just give opinions.

I struggle with this question also. We are going in October for our "disneymoon" 6days 5nights. We are staying onsite simply so we can get the dinning plan. Eat at great restaurants for dinner, and counter service lunches, (which we would do anyway) for $38/day instead of say...$60/per day. So we "save" about $22 per person per day- In this case 2 adults, so $44. Although we certainly wouldnt eat that much food if we were not on the plan, but this way we get to "savor" the experience- so to speak. However, my hotel probably runs about $165/night that time of year, (moderate resort) So allocating the $$ we "save" with the dinning plan and we are looking at about $121/ per night. Could we book a cheaper hotel- probably. A comparable hotel would probably be about $20 less per night outside the world. Over five nights thats $100. If we were going anywhere else during our stay-IoA or SW- then yeah i would stay off property in a heartbeat. But spending all of our time in the World I think it's just less hassle to stay in one place. Plus the service is ALWAYS outstanding. I don't think its worth saving $100 in my situation- my DH may disagree, but he doesn't do the planning :goodvibes

I am the author of that August thread. If it looks like everyone is staying on site in August, it's probably because of free dining. If it weren't for free dining, we would be off site. Our last two trips were off site in 2 bedroom condos and we LOVED it.

You will be fine. I do think that there is something special about staying on-site, but if being off site was the only way my family could make it to WDW, then off site we would be. :teeth:

Hey! You're going to Disney World!!  :cool1: :teeth: :cloud9:

What's free dining? Is that the "Magic Your Way Package Plus Dining"?

Because if that's true, I am actually thinking about doing the first 2 nights at Hojo (cancel the later 2), the first day at Universal and then move to Pop Century for the next two nights. I can get the tickets online at Disney, with the Dining plan, and benefit from the Resort check-in and free shuttle for the return flight...

Is that a good plan?

Free dining was a promotion (dining plan for FREE!!) that is for mid-August through September, however you needed to book this promo by end of June. I believe the dining plan is $38/per adult per day.
