TheBeadPirate I think the Magic Shell should work on the fruit just make sure it's dry and cold. I think the Magic shell works so welll on ice cream is because it's cold, but I've never tried it on any thing else

Because DD9 is non-verbal, it is hard to share the excitement of an upcoming trip with her. However, my routine is about a month before a trip, I set out one of the old planning books I have with Mickey on the cover. She will normally pick it up, bring it to me and tap Mickey's picture. I tell her we are going in XX days. We repeat this countdown every time she brings me the book. On Sunday, she came home from her boating/jetski adventure and saw the suitcases in the living room. She tapped the suitcases and looked at me and smiled. I think she knows the trip is close.

Sorry for the rambling

Gretchen

Don't ever apologize for telling such a beautiful story. You get me in tears every time - in a very good way!

Lori, I haven't tried the Magic Shell, but I think Baker's has a chocolate you melt in the microwave (do they have one in the Food Court at Pop?). You dip the fruit in and let it set for a few minutes. I used this for some strawberries last month and they were wonderful. I didn't even refrigerate them after dipping because my fridge was full and the chocolate set just fine.

For those of you who wanted to know what is going into the basket or what the "Magic Shell" is for- this is what I have planned so far. (& it's not as dirty as ones would have you believe!:rotfl2: )

I know he's out of cologne so I was going to get him something. And I have all kinds of skincare freebies from Clinique- so I figured a mini-facial, just something to relax him a little. And a recurrence from the trip we decided to get married- a hammock at the Poly during Wishes with some Rosa Regale and fruit. Anyone know anything about the "Magic Shell" ice cream topping? If I put it on fruit will it get hard? Thinking I could do that and it'd be ok in my pack from Pop to the Poly.

He's been a trooper about going back to work after Katrina and being gone all the time. AND he's not said anything about the lack of business here on my part. Seems he's happy if I'm taking care of him and Wanna B and the house. I just want to give him a little appreciation for everything he's done.

Don't quote me, but I think it's the coldness of the ice cream that hardens the sauce. If your fruit was REALLY cold it might work.

Could be fun to try it out in advance.

Actually it is one less than my ticker shows, DH and I decided about a month ago to leave a day early and I was too lazy to fix it. We are leaving Friday morning and driving (about 7.5 hours) and should be in Orlando late afternoon barring any traffic. We are really excited about the trip. We are taking our niece with us. She is 7 and has never been. When I told her we were having breakfast at Chef Mickey's and gave her the list of the characters there, she told me "Aunt Gretchen, I've waited my whole life to meet those guys in person." :goodvibes We can't wait to show her WDW.

Gretchen

Gretchen,

You're going to have so much fun!:cool1: Your niece is going to have such a good time & you will just love seeing her excitement! There is nothing like taking a child for the first time to Disney! I get choked up just thinking about our trip in January with my niece Alexis along! She loved every minute of it! Especially meeting the characters. She had a cold & a stomach bug during the trip & still she was having a great time. Sorry to go so overboard on the bragging about my DN! But just look at the excitement on this face from meeting JoJo & Goliath!

I forgot about dinner again! Last night I did the pork loin with a stuffing of bread crumbs, parmesan, lots of garlic & herbs, and some olive oil. It came out really yummy. Someone did a pork roast last week with something similar that gave me the idea for the stuffing, but I didn't have any pancetta. It still came out really good.

Tonight will be an easy one. I'm going to grill chicken breast, portobello mushrooms & vidalia onions. Don't know if I'm going with mediterreanean seasoning or a lemon herb butter thingy.

Brag Away! She is so cute! I don't know many thing more gratifying than seeing the world thru the eyes of a child and appreciating the sight.

Dinner tonight is going to be the Ritz chicken from the first page, a big salad and something for a side. I am already starving!

Sheryl, what a sweet picture of your niece. I knew from your wonderful restaurant review thread you had taken her and remembered what a great time you said all of you had (and that she had slept through dinner at FF - as loud as it was when we went I can't imagine how she did that).

I am really looking forward to this trip and have planned out lots of "extras" that I think my niece will really like. She is really anxious to go and DH and I can't wait to take her. We are still keeping our fingers crossed that our nephew will be well enough that DSIL will feel like she can come too - not only because it has been over fourteen years since DSIL was in WDW herself, but I would hate for her to miss seeing her baby in Disney for the first time. We just keep praying and hoping.

Thanks Nancy! You know us Nanas don't pass up opportunities to show off pics!

I forgot about my review, I'm glad I put up a different picture than the ones I posted there.;)

I really hope your SIL can go too. That would be really sad for to have to miss seeing her little girl's face full of excitement. I'm sure your DN will love Chef Mickeys & the other extras you've planned for her!

Ed and I just took a half a mile walk.. I'm going to have a nice healthy dinner.. Grilled tuna with mango salsa, Baked Red Potatoes with sour cream and chives out of my backyard, along with some roasted brussel sprouts... I love Brussel Sprouts.

Tonight dinner will either be Shrimp Scampi or Chicken Marsala. Just got home so I haven't decided yet!

That sounds so yummy! Congrats on the walk! I wish it was warmer here, and I'd be out walking too!

Tonight we had sauted tilipia with a wine sauce, mushrooms, garlic and sun dried tomatoes. Side of brocolli. You all inspired me to be creative.

Did you use a recipe for that or just wing it? Whatever you did, please share , we love tilapia!!!!

Bread or flour the Tilipia however you like. I breaded mine with panko (japanese flaked bread crumbs) Sauted them in olive oil, then placed on plate to rest while I did the sauce. For the sauce I used sliced green onions about 2, sliced mushrooms, sliced garlic (2 cloves) and quickly sauted than added 1 tablespoons of butter and I used leftover white wine added some sun dried oil packed tomatoes (sliced of course), a little squeeze of fresh lemon. Put fish back in saute pan and sprinkled chopped parsley and then plated and enjoy. No leftovers :thumbsup2.

Some of my best recipes come when I just grab whatever. I've been trying different combinations trying to duplicate a Tilipia dish I had in a restaurant. I think I've finally found it.

Tonight I am making hamburger steaks with sauteed peppers and onions, and steak fries.

WFD at your house?

Good morning! We are having steak and I have no idea what else. Salad maybe. I am going on a class trip with DS today.
