Yesterday I cheated and used Bell's stuffing mix for dinner..... I poured the dry mix into a bowl while I sauteed the onions..... I caught him EATING the dry mix. :confused3

Edited to add: He was then washing it down with a Miller Lite. Barf!
:rotfl:

Tonite is meatloaf, mashed potatoes and peas~
I am contemplating making a Jello mold salad--it's so '50's & would round out this diner dinner perfectly!
I am ruining the theme by making creme brulee for dessert!

Good morning, everyone! Last night we had spaghetti with meat sauce and breadsticks. Tonight will be something with boneless chicken breasts, maybe chicken and rice casserole. If the chicken was already thawed it would be Cheesy Crockpot Chicken, but I didn't put it out until this morning! I should be going back to work later this week :scared: if the doctor clears me tomorrow, so my dinners will be even less exciting than they are now.

I haven't posted in a couple days because I hosted a family party on Saturday and I've been so busy cooking and cleaning. And wouldn't you know it our A/C quit working Saturday afternoon. It was in the low 80°s and I had the oven on all day. Why is it that something like that always happens on a weekend when you can't get anyone to come out and fix it, not to mention during a party. Hopefully it'll get fixed today.

We're having salmon tonight, not sure about the sides yet. If we have A/C I'm going to broil it, if not I'll have to throw it on the grill.

Nancy ~ I do the same thing when I'm miffed at DH - cook things I know he doesn't like. :stir: :teeth:

Nancyg56 If the Babka is an egg based bread like Challa try taking some and roll it flat and put a cream cheese mixture ( softened cream cheam 1 egg beaten and a little grated fresh lemon or lemon extract) spread and roll up jelly roll fashion. A little egg wash on the outside and bake. That the kind of thing I was raised on.

It had two eggs, more like a sweet bread. The directions called for only 1 rise and then to roll and fill, I used a cinnamon raisin mixture, bit it would be great using the cream cheese. Do you think adding a prune or almond filling would be good?

NancyG56...I have a question...Do you peel the potatoes when you make the Ohana Potatoes? I think I am going to make these for a potluck I am going to next week...TIA!!!

I think I peeled them, but if they are thin skinned you would not need to.

Did I hear wine and chocolate????? :) :) :)

Nancy, How was the dump cake? I am jealous...I love Babka!!! I need to get to the polish store for Easter...:)

ETA: I see Stephanie made the dump cake too...did you like it? I am getting a complex...I don't think anyone likes my recipes...boo hoo!!! :)

I thought it was fabulous! I used frozen blueberries because I was too cheap to buy fresh, ans I see that Stephanie used peaches for the same reason :thumbsup2
I am going to try it that was the next time. It would have been awesome warm with some vanilla ice cream but all we had was every chocolate concoction known to man!

I am going to try a Babka with more eggs the next time, something like the one Martha Stewart's Mom makes for a lighter version, but the one I made is very similar to the version my DH Grandmother made for her family.

Tonight we are going to have hot turkey sandwiches with mashed potatoes I think. It is a busy night and I have a feeling my family is going to need to eat and run.

Good morning everyone, gee you guys have been chatting away since very early this morning, feel like I missed a whole day here.:rotfl:

Nothing special here, Monday beans & rice. Last night's pot of meatballs & italian sausage really hit the spot!

Have a great day everyone!

Thank you Stephanie and Nancy!!! I am glad you liked the dump cake.

Stephanie...can you tell me how you made the peach...fresh frozen? With the pineapple? I have to bring a dessert for Easter and my family has already had the blueberry...figured I can change it and it will be like something new!!! ;)

Tonight we are having baked ziti with meatballs...I may have to get some sausage since you guys were talking about it...I guess a salad on the side...maybe some sauteed broccolirabe for me.

Have a great day all!

Prune is really good. I also make it with Poppy seed filling, I've never tried the almond but that would be good. I am allergic to most tree nuts, but my Grandmother used to make a walnut filling too that everyone liked. :thumbsup2

Lauren, I intend to make the dump cake too, and have the ingredients (frozen), but haven't done it yet. I've been so busy the family is lucky I remembered to buy ice cream. My mother loves it, so I think I will try to make it before they come over Saturday.

Tonight's dinner is a pork roast I have in the crockpot. I plan on making a quick fried rice to go with it.

Have a great day everyone.

Gretchen

Kathy- looks like yesterday was a sausage and meatball day for a lot of us!

Lauren- I was also wondering if the pineapple would be good with a lemon cake. DD love a lemon blueberry combination, but I was a little unsure if teh pineapple would work well.

Hershey- Buddy's cousin is coming over one day this week and we are going to try some different combinations. I had forgotten the poppyseed. It is one of my favorite fillings!

See what happens when I don't cook on the weekends?! I miss everything! Lucas seducing Nancy's hubby with tuna? :goodvibes

I didn't do any cooking this weekend. Picked up fried oysters Friday Night, went out for Italian on Saturday, ate leftovers on Sunday. My DD was out of town, so there wasn't a need for a big Sunday Dinner.

MinnieM21, Your party food sounded great! Congratulations Graduate! So sorry about the snippy relatives. Why don't people just stay home, if they are going to act like that!

Tonight is probably going to be some kind of beans again. It's Monday in New Orleans! I have an AC man coming by this morning, & another contractor coming by to take a look a our bathroom. We are hoping to renovate it to make it more handicap accessible for my DH. It's not going so well finding a contractor, but that's another story for another day.:sad2:

Have a Great Day, Y'all!

Tonight I am going to my parents' for dinner since DH is in Toronto for business. I don't know what is on the menu but I am sure it will be yummy.

Lauren--I just used thawed frozen peach slices and the recipe as written--only used 1/2 cup sugar. It was really good--wish I would've had some vanilla ice cream though;)

It's going to be White Beans tonight. Not surprised, but the contractor cancelled for this evening. So I might have time to try Lucas' Phyllo Wrapped Asparagus on the side.

Any suggestions for using my Kitchen Aid Mixer that DH gave me for Christmas? I think I've used it about 3 times since I got it! I'm pretty sure DH was hoping for some homemade bread, so if y'all have any beginner bread baker recipes, he'd appreciate that!

Sheryl

Nancy, I am sure the lemon cake would be fine with the pineapple...

Getchen, Thanks for the info on the pretzel salad...I think I am going to make this for Easter...

Stephanie, Thanks for the peach info. Isn't everything better with vanilla ice cream on top? ;)

Sheryl, Sorry the contractor cancelled. I too can use some recipes for the mixer...I am a terrible baker and usually use the boxed stuff...I guess you really have to measure when you bake, usually I throw stuff together!!!...:rotfl: :)
