Morning all! Not sure what's for dinner tonight. If I don't hit the grocery store today we'll be eating condiments....Ketchup is a veggie, right????:rolleyes1

Thanks for the dump cake recipe! I think I'll make that today. And I also found a baked french toast recipe on All Ears.net from Main Street Bakery that I think I'll do for breakfast tomorrow. Notice how the sweets are all planned out, but dinner isn't???? Got my priorities in the right place! Have a great weekend all!!!

Good morning! I scrapped last night's salmon ans gave into a tuna noodle casserole craving I had. I had to find one on allrecipes because I never keep canned cream soups on hand and every recipe I saw had one kind or another. Anyway it was really good.
There is plenty left for this evening and that is good because I have an anniversary Mass for my Dad tonight to attend, and with my family a get together can last a loooooong time.

Today we are going to The American Cafe and going to see "Wild Hogs." I heard it was hilarious. Any of you guys and gals seen it yet?

I'm dying to see it. I  John Travolta

Tonight DH is pulling out the big guns and attempting to roast a chicken! I'll be supervising of course. He is also making mashed potatoes, gravy (I might have to take over that part), and broccoli.

I applaud your DH!!! I admire you too - My DH would offer hot dogs and honestly I don't think my nerves could handle him in the kitchen with a chicken!:scared1:

Ketchup is a veggie, right????:rolleyes1

My son would wholeheartedly agree!;)

We're getting some boiled crawfish today. I've been really missing my Mom more than usual these last few days, I guess that's to be expected. But I remembered last night about the ONLY dessert she ever made. Like me she WAS NOT a baker. She would throw together a white cake mix and swirl in a can of cherry pie filling. I think I'm going to do it today!

Don't laugh.

Tonight we had tuna fish sandwiches and potato chips. Sad but true! ;)

Tonight I am making smoky chicken patties (using turkey though) and steak fries, per my husband's request.

WFD at your house?

ETA: Wild Hogs was hilarious!!!!!!!!! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Well, even though I fought the Sat. morning crowds at the grocery store, we still went out for dinner last night. DH's twin bro and wife unexpectedly came into town last night--so we met them for dinner.

So, tonight I think I'm going to grill some chicken and make some kind of side. And then make the dump cake--I bought peaches instead of blueberries, were way to $$$$--so we'll see how that turns out. And I have the Main Street Bakery French Toast Loaf in the oven right now, so if that's super yummy I'll post that recipe later!

I'm going to go buy a small chicken and marinate it, then bake it. We'll have stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy and a veggie with it. I think we'll eat our big meal around 2 pm today.... I like doing that on Sundays.

I've decided I can't ever miss another day on this thread. I came back only to find lucas enticing Nancy's husband, with tuna sandwiches, does she have no shame? ;)

Lindsay, thanks for the movie review. I was thinking of that for the next date night with DH.

Kathy, I know what you mean about certain dishes reminding us of our loved ones. My late grandmother made a cake that was my favorite, sock-it-to-me cake. It was basically a yellow bundt cake with a crescent of cinnamon, sugar and chopped nuts. I found her recipe, but she obviously modified it when baking but not on the recipe card. I made six or seven before finally giving up the fight. The taste was really close, but I could never get the cake out of the pan without it tearing in half at the crescent part.

Tonight's dinner is shrimp and grits. I've been really looking forward to it.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Gretchen

I've been super busy the last couple of days. On Friday, I spent all day shopping for groceries from the regular grocery store and then a couple of specialty stores.

Yesterday we had a college graduation party for me at my house and I offered to cook lunch.
For appetizers we had Herbed dip with an assortment of veggies and sun dried tomato dip with a variety of crackers.
I made salad with mixed spring greens, grape tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, herbed croutons, cannelini beans with balsamic vinaigrette.
Then I made two citrus and garlic roasted chickens, buttermilk mashed potatoes, and zucchini gratin.
We also had some yummy La Brea Bakery bread. Roasted Garlic bread, sourdough bread, and french bread. Oh it's so good. The absolute best.
Then for dessert we had a white cake with chocolate frosting and chocolate buttercream filling. It's was soooo good! :)

Everyone LOVED the food and I was so happy. They asked if they could come over sometime next week for dinner again. And my vegetarian aunt wanted to eat the roast chickens! :lmao: She said she was so tempted.:rotfl:

Other than that, two of my aunts and one of my cousins were really rude towards me, I don't know why? :confused3 They didn't even say hello to me when they came in and never said a word to me until they were about to leave! :sad2: :sad1: My mom told me that my aunt and her son are jealous that I graduated from college in 3 1/2 years and I'm only 21. But my cousin started college 3 years before me and he just graduated last May (he's 24). She has always bragged about how smart my cousin(her son) is and having me graduate in such a short amount of time and right after him appartently ticks her off. I think it's just such a stupid thing to be jealous of.
Sorry I just had to vent...

I still have to post the recipe for the zucchini gratin and I'll also post the recipes for herbed dip and sundried tomato dip (both Ina Garten recipes!- favorite:) )

MinnieM21, I really like all her books. Her first book (Barefoot Contessa) is good, and I love Barefoot in Paris. There are a couple of yummy vegetarian recipes in that one--baked eggs with herbs, a blue cheese souffle, a terrific cauliflower gratin, and a great salad with goat cheese toasts, just off the top of my head. However, my all time favorite is Barefoot Contessa Family Style. I don't have it in front of me, so can't remember how many vegetarian entrees that one has. I do know there's a great macaroni and cheese with tomatoes, a roasted vegetable soup, and a souffled fritatta, plus lots of yummy veggie sides...

Thanks for the recommendation. I went to the book store on Friday and looked through Barefoot Contessa Family Style and they were so many fantastic recipes! I'm going back to Barnes and Noble and I'm going to buy the book. The macaroni and cheese looked really good. YUM!

MinnieM21- Congratulations on your graduation! Enjoy your special cakes....hymmmmmmm..pink champagne cake? sounds yummy!

Thank you. :) The pink champagne cake was very yummy.
I also had a white cake with chocolate frosting and chocolate buttercream filling. It was so good!

Lindsay - Thanks for fixing the title of the recipe :) I figured you were a little sleepy when you wrote that. ;)

:lmao: I thought about Buddy when I read lucas' post!

He's really going to be looking for sandwich fillings this week because I am irritated with him. I tend to cook food he hates when I'm testy so if you see a starving man roaming around, you'll know I still at it!

I've decided I can't ever miss another day on this thread. I came back only to find lucas enticing Nancy's husband, with tuna sandwiches, does she have no shame? ;)

The question is how much shame will he have if I stay snippy for a week. He won't even know where the tuna is ans he told me yesterday that the only thing he knows how to cook is eggs. He's not that good with them either.

Sorry I just had to vent...

Vent away, Sweetie....you earned your momentto shine so enjoy it!

I'm not sure about tonight. I am trying to decide which meal Buddy will be worse for Buddy to choke down....meatloaf or shepards pie, or maybe some sort of sweet chicken???????

I am with Gretchen! I missed one day on this thread and I am totally lost!!! :)

We went out yesterday for an early dinner and I had linguine with white clam sauce. Probably the best I have ever had.

Tonight, back to cooking. I have a chicken to roast and I'll throw some sides together...definitely Stove Top!!!

Lindsay, I'll have to agree Wild Hogs was great.

Have a great day all!

:lmao: :lmao: Oh my, too funny!!!

I was more adventurous today and WOW!! I am making TigerKat's recipe for Frank's Back-a-town Chicken. The whole house smells wonderful. It is almost done so I had to sneak a taste and it is delish. Can't wait for dinner.

Okay, I got over it....not really but I don't feel like any of the things he hates.....and it is all about me when I'm testy.....so we are having spaghetti with meatballs and sausage, salad, and a garlic bread. I baked a cinnamon Babka this morning so we will have it and the blueberry dump cake that it in the oven.

Doesn't it smell like a gumbo while it's cooking?
