"The Official 'True Blood' Vampire Thread" ...spoilers included.

So wait! Did everyone see the previews for next week?

I had a feeling something was up with Rene :thumbsup2 I wanted to SCREAM when that dopey girl in the police station put all the papers over the fax!!!!!:scared1:

UGH- and don't get me started on Sookie! She tells Sam in the car that she loves Bill and then she is all flirty with Sam!

............and I might be the only one who LUVed when Bill came crashing in and going after Sam! It's so romantic:rotfl2: :lmao: :headache:

Those scenes with (what is her name ETA- sorry, Jessica!)) the teenage girl were hilarious:rotfl2: I am sure someone will put her in her place- did you see what she looks like in the previews for next week- THE LAST HOUR!!!:guilty:

Maddhatir -- I know! My friend asked me the other day who I thought the killer was. Since I really had no clue, I got to thinking that just for shock value, Rene was going to be involved in something.

They thought I was crazy.

Something hit me when Arlene said how great he was at their wedding. :scratchin

And- so, the woman who is taking Tara to her home, that is the same woman with the pig?- I thought it was, but then Tara did not recognize her when she came to bail her out!?

Apparently, it is the same woman with the pig. I guess where Tara was drunk, the woman was all dirtied up, and it went so quickly that she just didn't put them together.

And the naked pig lady is apparently a Maenad. We're waiting (not so patiently) to find out what a maenad is.

I am trying to remember from the book. A Maenad is a minor goddess of wine and the forest that was driven insane by a major god. Now she needs drunk people to go crazy to honor her.

I vaguely remember that maenads are insane and the one in the book was homicidal. The character of Mary Ann didn't fit my memory from the books--I can't imagine that maenad acting normally and living in a house. :confused3

I did do a bit of online research just now and the maenad appears in the second book. It also said that Mary Ann is the maenad so it should be interesting to see how this pans out.

I thought MaryAnn was the one who "turned" Bill. I didn't read the books, so I'm trying to catch up.

Hmmm- so she went and bailed out Tara b/c she was arrested for being drunk and she will now keep feeding Tara liquor?

Is Kenya the police officer? Sooooo, she KNOWS Mary Ann, is Kenya in cahoots with Mary Ann to bring her people arrested for drunkeness???:confused3

Dare I ask, but...What in the world is a maenad?

Here's what the wiki says:

In Greek mythology, Maenads (Greek: Μαινάδες) were the inspired and frenzied female worshippers of Dionysus, the Greek god of mystery, wine, and intoxication, the Roman god Bacchus. Their name literally translates as "raving ones". They were known as wild, insane women who could not be reasoned with. The mysteries of Dionysus inspired the women to ecstatic frenzy; they indulged in copious amounts of violence, bloodletting, sexual activity, self-intoxication, and mutilation. They were usually pictured as crowned with vine leaves, clothed in fawnskins and carrying the thyrsus, and dancing with wild abandon. The Maenads are the most significant members of the Thiasus, the retinue of Dionysus.

In Macedon, according to Plutarch's Life of Alexander, they were called Mimallones and Klodones. In Greece they were described as Bacchae, Bassarides, Thyiades, Potniades and other epithets.

The Maenads were entranced women, wandering under the orgiastic spell of Dionysus through the forests and hills. The maddened Hellenic women of real life were mythologized as the mad women who were nurses of Dionysus in Nysa: "he that on a time drave down over the sacred mount of Nysa the nursing mothers of mad Dionysus; and they all let fall to the ground their wands." (Iliad, VI.130ff). They went into the mountains at night and practised strange rites.

The Maenads were also known as Bassarids (or Bacchae or Bacchantes) in Roman mythology, after the penchant of the equivalent Roman god, Bacchus, to wear a fox-skin, a bassaris.

In Euripides' play The Bacchae, Theban Maenads murdered King Pentheus after he banned the worship of Dionysus. Dionysus, Pentheus' cousin, himself lured Pentheus to the woods, where the Maenads tore him apart. His corpse was mutilated by his own mother, Agave, who tore off his head, believing it to be that of a lion.

A group of Maenads also killed Orpheus.

In Greek vase-painting, the frolicking of Maenads and Dionysus is often a theme depicted on Greek kraters, used to mix water and wine. These scenes show the Maenads in their frenzy running in the forests, often tearing to pieces any animal they happen to come across.

See also Icarius, Butes, Dryas, and Minyades for other examples of Dionysus inflicting insanity upon women as a curse.

The wiki goes on to say about Sookie being attacked by a maenad in Living Dead in Dallas, the 2nd Sookie Stackhouse book. In the book, her name is Callisto.

An afterthought: wasn't Kenya's partner named Keith? or was it Kevin? They were always in Merlotte's. Where have they been all season?

I think it was Kevin. I knew it started with a K.

It seems to be that Bill made a deal with Eric to keep Jessica, so I don't think that will happen.
Did Eric keep Jessica? I thought he was just helping Bill out with her because Bill couldn't handle her at first. Kind of like babysit her for a while.

Her name is MaryAnn Forester so I'm thinking that she is Maenad of the Forest.
She was actually supposed to appear in the first episode. Remember I said I had to watch the first few episodes online? (I don't have on demand and I got into the series late.) I ended up watching the original pilot episode which had a different Tara, and it was subtitled in Chinese.

I mentioned in that pilot that a person was watching, from in the woods Sookie help Bill get away from the Rattays. then she disappeared back into the woods. That person was Mary Ann. They ended up cutting it from the episode which finally aired on HBO.

I'm really saddened by the death of Amy.

She had a couple of nice things going for her...

:cool2:

I'm glad she died. Karma for killing Eddie. :p

On the previews for next week- it seemed like Eric wanted Sookie, maybe for watching Jessica- that is what it seemed like.:confused3

That's what I thought too. He was just watching Jessica. Otherwise, he'd have a new vampire AND Sookie. :confused3

So, book readers, do you think that MaryAnn is an early introduction of the maenad? All of the clues were there in the last episode. She was naked, by the side of the woods, dirty with her hair disheveled. For all intents and purposes, I think this could be a good introduction to her, especially with Tara living with her. It would help to explain the goings on in book 3 better with this change of events now.

When she showed up with the pig, I figured it was the maenad. I wonder if we'll get the "group" scene from the book in a different way now? ;)

I've become totally obsessed with the books. I'm reading them through a second time. I am trying to see the show as more of a fan fiction version because it's gone so off with some of the characters and story lines.

I saw that too, but I thought it was Claudine in the woods. Glad they took it out, whoever it was, since it made no sense.

me too, I thought she was really annoying, and I really liked Eddie.

I hope Rene is not the killer, he is a cutie! But it's either him or the other guy that is bossed around by his mom, because Amy was killed after Jason told those 2 she was hooked on V.

Me threeeeeeeee I could not stand Amy... :headache:

I had that thought today, that the killer is either the guy who told off Mom, lol, or I had another thought... What about the more quiet guy.. I forget his name.. Was in the war or something? Sookie was talking to him at the party.. When Sam was on the ladder decorating in ep 10 the guy was petting the dog and talking about family...

ETA: hmm saw the previews for the next one again.. looks like it may be Rene after all...
