The *OFFICIAL SEASON 3* Dancing With The Stars Thread! Are YOU watching??

I understand. I see some people who really enjoyed Emmitt's dancing, but if you go online to some of the forums, what you see is, "I hate so and so!" or "I heard Mario cheated on his wife, so I'm not voting for him."

That's why I think I don't get along with these types of shows. Whereas some vote truly for what they enjoy, there are so many others who have biased opinions coming in and that just dooms it from the start. :confused3

Yes. I completely understand what you are saying.

You know, I was actually wondering about that, too. But then, when you see him on Extra, he doesn't have it and I wonder if he justs masks it at certain times.

I lean more toward that after finding out on that one show that he was from Chula Vista. I was in Chula Vista for a *week* and I started picking up those little hard Ls.

But one or the other isn't his real speaking voice and I'm starting to lean toward the Extra and Saved by the Bell one. I'm sure he has training and I just wish I could do the same with my accent. :guilty:

Anything is possible.

House is British and I didn't know that until he did an awards show. At first I'm like--what's with the fake accent? Well it was his real one. On House, he is using an American accent for his dialogue, but it isn't how he really speaks.

I'm sure with Latino performers--it is quite possible.

I had a friend who was Puerto Rican and I had no idea until she told me. didn't speak English until high school and I have to listen really hard to hear any hint of a Spanish accent. When she speaks fast or is upset--it does come out a little bit more. And when she speaks Spansih her accent is flawless of course.

On DWTS Mario isn't "acting" so it could be that he doesn't try as hard to cover up.

I lector at church, used to do radio and a little bit of theater--while I have a problem with some accents..I can mask how my voice sounds and how I am while doing any of the above things is NOT how I speak IRL.

I'm not surprised about the win because I've been on several different DWTS boards where the tide was turning away from Mario and toward Emmitt for the past few weeks. I think Mario peaked too early and had no choice but to go down.

And I think his permanent PMS partner may have been his downfall....

Emmitt was the entire package... and face it, folks, this is like an election. The person we vote for is the person we LIKE. The way they live their life, their family, their comaraderie with their partner, this all matters. The way they come off on the camera, whether or not they can bring their fans in on a "I can relate" level... in the end it's what pushes people to the phone.

Emmitt and Cheryl were open and seemed to be very platonic, loving partners. Their relationship was of respect and honor and it showed. Not once did I get the feeling that they had a "showmance".. which by the way, makes my skin crawl... and that mattered to me. Mario and Karina's "fire and desire" relationship actually gave me the creeps. UGH... she looked like she carried a WHIP and he was her nancy boy! :scared:

Again, just my humble opinion!! :happytv:

I like this show because it allows people who would've never danced on TV a chance to try it out. I cannot STAND SYTYCD because I cannot relate to professional dancers and don't care. I like to see the average Joe try his hand at it, that's why I loved Joey, Jerry and Emmitt. I loved watching them TRY and how they became better and better with each show.

I agree 100%.

This is totally random... But, I read on a board somewhere that DWTS is considering telling Cheryl she can't return next season because of her two wins.

I like Cheryl alot and dont want to see her go.

Sorry to see you lose Mario. :guilty: Emmitt had grown alot and was so much better than Jerry Rice last season that I wasn't surprised at all when Emmitt won. I do think that Karina was Mario's downfall, I think if he had been matched up with someone like Kim (Jerry Springer's partner) who was so much more likeable it may have been a different outcome. JMHO. ;)

this is from people.com

It was a partisan crowd that cheered former NFL great Emmitt Smith onto victory at the Dancing with the Stars finale on Wednesday night in Los Angeles.

While Smith and fellow celebrity finalist Mario Lopez received identical scores on Tuesday night's show, it was Smith's fan base that voted him and professional dance partner Cheryl Burke onto victory.

Smith, 37, beat out the former Saved by the Bell star in the third season of the popular ballroom dance show.

"I am so proud of this trophy and I am proud to share it with Cheryl," Smith told PEOPLE while gold-colored confetti fell from above. "We worked our tails off."

"Emmitt embodied what this competition is all about," season 3 contestant Shanna Moakler said. "He deserved to win. Absolutely."

"I don't think you could go wrong with either of these guys," former contestant Jerry Springer said. "They both had identical scores so it was who had the more compelling story and Emmitt's was the great American story. You saw his growth throughout the process and that's the great American story. That's the magic of this show."

Runners up Lopez, 33, and partner Karina Smirnoff couldn't hide their disappointment about coming in second place. Tears streamed down Smirnoff's face as she reluctantly talked to reporters and the usually jovial Lopez tried to console her.

"Apparently world-class dancing wasn't enough. That wasn't the criteria it was based on," a dejected Lopez told PEOPLE. "I don't really care about the trophy. I just wanted to win for Karina. She is honestly the best dancer in the world. No disrespect to the other girls on this show, but they don't hold a candle to her."

Smith, Burke, Lopez and Smirnoff will be in New York City on Thursday for a Ronald McDonald House charity event. Then, Smith will reunite with his family at their Dallas home.

"This is going to be a great Thanksgiving this year," Smith's wife, Pat, said. "He is one happy man and I'm so proud of him.".

One of the highlights of the night, aside from Smith's win, was the return of the entire season 3 cast. Receiving the biggest ovations were Jerry Springer and Sara Evans. Evans withdrew from the competition after filing for divorce from political consultant Craig Schleske, her husband of 13 years.

Evans is not allowed to do any press because of a gag order imposed by the judge presiding over her divorce. But her return to the show was well-received, dancer Louis Van Amstel tells PEOPLE.

"She was very relaxed, very happy to be here. Her kids are here and they are having a lot of fun. Her son Avery was doing some moves on the dance floor during rehearsals yesterday." Van Amstel said.

The DWTS tour kicks off Dec. 19 in San Diego. Burke will re-team with her fellow champion from season 2, Drew Lachey, for the 38-city jaunt. Smirnoff, meanwhile, will team up with season-3 contestant Harry Hamlin.

I was glad to see Emmitt win. I voted for him because not only was he a good dancer, but he entertained me. I felt the same way about Joey. I liked Mario, and he is quite the dancer, but it seems to be me that he was already good where as Emmitt started from the bottom and worked his way up.
All in all, I really enjoyed this show. It was nice to see a reality show where the contestants seem to really like each other and there was no backstabbing going on. I can't wait for next season.

That would be silly!

They can just match her up with the Jerry Springer of next season or something.

All the pairs are matched by producers. They don't get to pick each other.

Yikes! Did Mario really say that?? He thinks his dancing was WORLD-CLASS???

I think the article on msnbc.com explained things best - at least for me. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15739952/from/ET/

Wow! Awesome article!!

Favorite quote: Looking at Mario in the first week, the logical reaction was, “Wow, Mario Lopez can dance.” But looking at Emmitt, the logical reaction was, “Wow, I can’t believe Emmitt Smith can dance.”

Second fav quote: Paired with the prickly Karina, Mario started to look like that kid in high-school theater who knows he’s going to get the lead and loves nothing more than making everyone else sit through his audition and doubt themselves. No amount of backstage dimple-flashing and trumped-up humility could ever quite wash away the strut. The kid thought it was in the bag.

Third fav quote: Who knew Jerry Springer would be so warmly self-deprecating? Who knew Monique Coleman would get so emotional? Who knew Joey Lawrence was so creepy and intense?
:lmao:

Agreed RobinrS.

ALso love these quotes.

But he also won because he had going for him the one thing that rescues this show from being completely stupid: he taught himself something difficult.

A few weeks ago, Emmitt said of his efforts on the show, “A real man tries to do something he thinks he cannot do.”

Love this show and Emmitt too!

I would hope they wouldn't penalize her for doing such a good job. Neither of her partners have been natural dancers so what they got, they got from working with Cheryl. Plus, she has figured out what it takes to do well in this competition. It seems to me she starts by teaching good basic technique and the character of each dance. She puts enough flash into the routines to make them entertaining, but not so much that you can't figure out which dance they are actually doing.

Funniest part for me during the show was when George Lopez said something like Mario should win because the trophy would fit perfectly in a Latino living room. I was LMAO.

The judges just about told him that. I don't think he would have said that himself had the judges not told him something along those lines. In one episode they actual said they were scoring him as a professional. To make it in professional ballroom--one has to be pretty darn good. The judges had the bar set very high for Mario.

Where is the vomit smilie? THis is EXACTLY why Mario didn't win...what a slimeball!

Exactly. ::yes::

DWTS is not the level playing field of most competitions - you have different fan bases, different levels of prior experience & are matched with partners who make a huge difference with their choreography skills.

The only thing that makes me sad about Emmett's win is the possibility of Cheryl not returning - she makes watching fun. Some of the other professionals are far less appealing.

Totally OT, but I gotta disagree with this one point regarding elections. I understand that it applies to a lot of people, but during an actual election, if I paid attention to the candidates lives, I'd vote for none of them.

Harold Ford's life is nothing I can relate to. He has a backstabbing, criminal family, he has money out the backend and I hardly approve of some of the things he's done.

However, he stood for the issues I believe in and that's what I have to pay attention to. I can't vote for someone who definitely won't represent me in D.C.

Just wanted to say that! I know that this isn't an election, but that's kinda what worries me about the upcoming elections in '08.
