The Official Non-Red Sox/Yankee Baseball Fan Thread

As much as I liked the Reds, that is how little I am liking the Cards tonight.

Tom Glavine is going for win #299 tonight vs. the Dodgers. Good luck Tom. I hope it gets it tonight, his next start would be at Shea.

An interesting factoid about the Barry Bonds home run chase. The Giants are about to play to Milwaukee Brewers in Milwaukee.

On this date (7/20) in 1971, Hank Aaron hit his 755th home run for the Brewers. In Milwaukee. Maybe that means that Barry won't be able to hit it this weekend......

I think the year is wrong on that fact (I assume the date is correct, however).

I know that Hank's 715th was hit in 1974 (on my 2nd birthday, in fact ;) :thumbsup2 ), so I think #755 was hit in 1975 or '76 (I think '76 was his last season?)

that's what I get for sneaking in posts at work. the year was 1976. thanks for the correction.

ETA: and you had to throw in the fact that you were 2 when Hank set the record. I was almost 13!

no afternoon baseball today. I think there should be at least one day game a day. And don't you miss doubleheaders?

ETA: I didn't check hard enough--there is a day game today, Cubs vs. Dbacks.

Crap, you're both yougnin's...I was 22:lmao: :rotfl2:

Yippee! My Tigers swept the Twins.
Hopefully, they got their winning out of the way so my Royals can at least eek out one win against them this weekend.

Speaking of which, the lowly, awful, Royals just got done taking 2 out of 3 IN Boston from that team we are not supposed to talk about on this thread. :cheer2: I'm so proud of them and now I just hope we can do something against the teams in our OWN division. It would be nice to not finish in last place like we have the last three years in a row. :guilty:

What's the feeling about baseball in KC? It is such a great traditional baseball town. It seems that the local rags are picking up fewer of the AP stories about how pitiful the Royals are. Does that mean they're turning the corner? I remember growing up enjoying the George Brett teams. I liked Whitey Herzog as a manager too.

Hmmm, cautiously optimistic I would say. The better feeling started when we hired Dayton Moore as our GM last season. Our young batters (Alex Gordon and Billy Butler) seem to be doing well though it took Alex Gordon seemingly forever to get on track (that first year in the Majors is often a tough one). In fact, if it was up to me, you would never see Mike Sweeney (when healthy) playing in place of Billy Butler ever again.

Our pitching, especially our bullpen, has been surprisingly good this year and over the last 19 games they have been awesome. We've got a 3.48 ERA over that stretch trailing only your Tigers (3.41) and the Padres (3.43). Our bullpen's ERA over the last 19 games is 1.90!

Finally (indulge me for one more stat), we are 30-27 since our 11-26 start which is not a pennant-winning clip but is great for the Royals. So, it is at least fun to go to the ballpark this year. We know we are not playing "for" anything but we also know we have at least a chance to win most games.

Your Tigers do scare me though. We only have 2 wins in 9 games against them so far this year and I'm pretty sure we only had 2 (maybe 3) wins TOTAL against them all of last year (as I'm sure everyone here knows, with the unbalanced schedule, you play teams in your own division about 18 times or so).

I heard that the commish will be going to the Giants-Brewers games this weekend, as long as Bonds is playing. So far, he hasn't hit a homer, but it is early.

Just found this thread. Count me in! I'm sick of anything to do with the Yankees & Red Sox. Unfortunately, my team stinks this year (Astros). It's been pretty depressing. However, we've had a good run over the last 10 years-it's been fun. Our new centerfielder is a strong Rookie of the Year candidate (Hunter Pence). I've got tickets for the 28th vs. the Padres. I always enjoy going to Minute Maid Park. It's a beautiful baseball park.

Go Astros!
