The Official Non-Red Sox/Yankee Baseball Fan Thread

Right now, the Tribe's tied with the Angels for best record, with one of those "two other teams" a 1/2 game back. :cool1:

Good luck to your Indians Bob. Hopefully, they can knock that New York team out of the playoffs.

Amen to that - both for Cleveland winning and the other team losing. :thumbsup2

And in yet another wonderful move by ownership, the Cards have fired Walt Jocketty. Why they chose to do this to one of the best GMs in baseball after a season decimated by injuries, a teammate's death, and lack of decent pitching in large part due to being financially hamstrung by said ownership is a freaking mystery to me. Oh, and did I mention that this is a team coming off of, um, a CHAMPIONSHIP, not to mention a new stadium (and the accompanying exorbitant rise in ticket prices)? So it ain't like $$ was exactly in short supply in the first place.

GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!

I am FURIOUS right now. I can only assume that this will mean the imminent departure of La Russa and (most likely) Dave Duncan (who has proven to be something of a miracle-worker with some pretty, er, not-good pitchers) as well. Boy oh boy, I so can't wait till next season. :rolleyes2

Royals are looking for an experienced manager. :scratchin

Well, somebody's gonna get a heck of a good one, that's for sure. Rumor around here has been for a while that Jocketty, La Russa, and possibly Duncan will travel as a package to Cincinnati...I think that's been going around for at least the last few months.

I wouldn't mind Walt going to KC, necessarily....at least he'd be out of the NL!

Way to go, Indians! Way to beat that nasty NY team in a big, big way! :cheer2:

And wow, the Rockies are on fire!

Now if only my Cubbies can starting winning a couple games...

Can't you just hear the Don Henley song playing in the background? Aaaaah....

I love my Washington Nationals. What a great team. They play hard and are
great at being a real pain in the "neck" to the other teams. They never quit.
I love Manny and what's he's done for morale. I can't wait for the day when I will
root for them in October. I know that day will come.

GO NATS! :woohoo:

Well, OK, now that the Cubs are out of it (man, that stinks... not even one game???), I can cheer for just one team.

Go Indians!!!:cheer2:

OK Bob, I promised to stay out of this thread and I did......but now that your boys are visiting mine on Friday night, it's going to be tough to keep my mouth shut.

As a Sox fan, I would have rather played the Yankees.

On a side note, yesterday I listed to FAN most of the day and there was a lot of talk about LaRussa going to NY.

Missy, I'm sorry about your Mets!

My parents, who are longtime Cardinals season-ticket holders, told me that they received an email today that prices are being raised for next season. So, just to make sure I've got this right--ownership canned one of the best GMs in the game after an unsuccessful season because they were unwilling to pony up any $$ for pitching during the offseason. They (evidently) pocketed the extra revenue from all of the WS merch sales (which were ENORMOUS) and the extra $$ from increased ticket prices this past season and the one before that after the move to the new stadium, but that wasn't enough; now they'd like EVEN MORE money. Super dooper. :rolleyes2

ETA: Forgot--my mom told me that they also got an email the day they fired Jocketty thanking them for supporting the team through a "difficult season." An email? They couldn't be bothered to send a real-live letter to the people who spent all that money? As a comparison, the Blues had players hand-deliver season ticket packages to many of their longtime STHs; the players actually went door to door with the envelopes of tickets.

I wonder if Dave Checketts could be convinced to buy the Cards, too... ;)
