The Official Non-Red Sox/Yankee Baseball Fan Thread

I LOVE baseball....the game, its history....:) I just feel better during baseball season. A ball game on the radio is as soothing to me as the other lovely sounds of a summer's night. Spring training is like Christmas time for me and post-season is bittersweet.

I follow my Braves, like my Father and grandmother did....win or lose.....and there were plenty of memorable family outings at an empty stadium where everyone could hear what you were yelling.

We just buried my grandmother a week ago and I gave her one of my tomahawks, so she could keep on cheering in style. My Dad gave me her Braves visor, which is now one of my most prized possessions.

For me, baseball is tied in with fond childhood memories and sharing something special with family and no amount of losing or labor strife or scandal will ever lessen that.

We have it the worse Our Owner stinks and only cares about the Bottom Line.

We get invaded buy the nations ( BrS/NY)every game as they can't get tickets to their Home games or just want to Visit a safer City (jk on that one ).

But yes it's crasy and I don't even really like BB to begin with .

I just wanted to check in and say "Go Tigers!" I've been a Detroit fan since they won the WS in 1968. It's been a looooong dry spell, but last year and this year have been fun.

On the NL side I follow the Braves and Cubs, although not as fervently as I do the Tigers over in the AL.

Speaking of the Tigers. Does anyone else think Gary Sheffield is an idiot? All of his talk about racism in Torre's clubhouse just gives me a :headache: . Wa too many respecdtable folks refuting him on this; IMO he should just shut up already.

I hadn't heard anything about that. I can't remember Sheffield stirring the puddin' like that when he was a Brave. Then again, I can't recall any players whining about playing for Bobby Cox.

On a side note with Shef, I was at the first game in ATL when the Shef's Chefs got started. I had my radio on and the announcers were noticing them and making some funny remarks. That phenomenon led to Francoeur's Franks, Frenchy's Maids, McCann's Cans and my brief favorite.......Lengerhans' Hands. They dressed in huge Hand costumes and looked like something off a Hamburger Helper box.....:lmao:

I'm a big Tigers fan too, since 68--when I was 5--and want to tell everyone who has a team that stinks, your time will come. Look how horrible the Tigers were for YEARS. I just prayed to end the season over .500 and we didn't do it for 12 years--until last year, and we had to go to the other extreme and win the ALC!
Bob, sorry to say I hope the Indians lose--a one game lead is a little too nerve-wracking for me--I want to open it up a little in the AL central.
DH likes the Reds, grew up in Dayton loving the Big Red Machine--poor guy. This year they are awful.

I may be a Yankee fan but I spent my teen years Shea.
I was allowed to cut school every season opener and freeze watching the game.
Cooperstown is like our second home. I've been there about 20 times.
Up until 10 years ago we used to go Induction weekend at the end of July.

My goal of visiting every stadium stopped when we had kids.
I loved Wrigley Field. :)

Isn't that the truth?! Every evening when I read the box scores I get nervous.

The guy won't keep quiet.
Too bad, I really liked him but he's shooting is mouth off way too much.

I remember when Sheff was with the Dodgers, the Mets almost traded for him. I didn't want him. He's a great hitter, but he seems to be trouble.

Understandable. ::yes::

And you'll understand, I hope, when I say that I keep waiting for the Tigers to hit a 10 game losing streak. ;) :teeth:

Go Brewers! It is awesome they are finally a team to cheer about!!

I'm likin' the Reds the last few days. :thumbsup2

Well, it took a while, but the Reds did beat the Braves this afternoon.

and then the Mets lost last night. I hate it when they're on the West Coast.

Damn them Reds.....and you Mets

I am a Braves fan through and through and hated to see that sweep. I guess I was born into the fandom before the current run of success. We lived in the south when ATL was the only team down there. My dad went to Georgia Tech so the ATL connection was always there. Dale Murphy was my favorite player growing up. Too bad he couldn't have been on some of those winning teams. I would have loved to see him win it all.

Can I talk about my favorite National League team the Dodgers:confused3

Cool:thumbsup2 ...did you know that 2 of their players and the manager used to be with the Red Sox:lmao: :rotfl2:

:p :p :p Had to go there, didn't ya? :sad2:

In all seriousness, I hope no Red Sox or Yankee fans think I have any problem with them or their teams. :) :) I really don't, honestly, I've just noticed a disparity of threads talking about those two teams versus everyone else. :)
