The Official New Mom Thread Part 2

I am so frustrated!! I had the same experience that many others did on this thread - except it was my own fault. I responded to almost everyone and left the Window open to put DD to bed - and my computer restarted itself. AGRRRRRGGGGH. :furious:

I lost everything.

Working backwards - I wrote that my DD5 was dry through the night until about 8 weeks ago (yes, close to Madeleine's birth) and has peed the bed every night since then. I have tried taking her potty multiple times through the night ('cause hey, I'm up anyhow!) and it hasn't worked. :guilty: Please help!

Jill - I went to NYU for law school. And I owe a ridiculous amount of money that they want me to pay back, funny enough. I'm still ambivalent about the decision for many reasons, but I guess it's part of who I am now.

Robin - Kailey spent a year or so tripping over her own feet.

nuckpharm - sitters here are $10 an hour and up. My friend pays her nanny $600 a week for 2 boys. I'm not sure how many hours that includes, but I know it's not totally insane.

I'm leaving the computer again so will partially post.

:moped:

Well, tonight I'm disappointed in the outcome of another reality show. I didn't want Lukas to win Rock Star. He looks like the devil to me. I wanted Dilana to win since she is from Houston. Can't wait until Survivor starts tomorrow. I guess we watch too many reality shows. When BB was on Jenna would run around and say "Chick'n George". Tonight she was dancing all around the room when DWTS was on. She would also take my hand and say "dance, Mommy". It was too cute.:goodvibes Did anyone watch The View this morning? Booger, Erika, and Janie were guests. Rosie was totally DISing Booger. It was hilarious.

Ginamarie- I finally got to watch last night's debut of DWTS, and I agree that there is a pretty good cast this year.

Gems- Shelby is getting close to her 1st birthday. Any party plans yet?

nucpharm- My DH also does reward programs, so he doesn't think I'm crazy. Congrats on the 30 Disney dollars.

Loretta- I would like to see Janie and Mike on AR as well. Glad your focus group went well.

Tamie- Hope Tyler feels better soon. Glad the lump isn't anything serious.

floridafam- Congrats on your weight loss.

BnBM- I probably wouldn't let her go either.

GLT- How cute that the kiddos are playing garage sale.

joats- Hope your DH gets good news tomorrow. So sorry that Jace busted his lip today. Jenna has busted her lip three times since she has become mobile. Tonight she got her fingers caught in the door hinge of our entertainment center.

Alice- I never really gave "homework". The homework that I assigned was usually only work that wasn't finished in class. If my students used their time in class wisely, then they usually had plenty of time to get their work done. I didn't assign homework as a punishment either.

Jill- So happy that you found a shortcut to school and a sitter for John.

justhat- How nice of you to offer to watch John for Jill.

fabumouse- Sorry that Kailey has been wetting the bed at night. I'm sure the birth of Madeleine has caused some "stress" in her life, and that is why she is wetting the bed. I'm sure it will clear up on its own, but if it continues for a long time then you may want to talk to her doctor. I would avoid giving her anything to drink after her dinner/snack, have her use the bathroom before going to bed, and use praise and rewards for staying dry.

Hi to all other DIS Moms!

Today is so gross. Cold and rainy. DH has to take the train to NYC for the day for some work event. At least I get to hibernate inside. I might try to take Lucas out to Target with me.

I hear him up so I have to go. Just when I thought I had a few minutes to catch up, too. I'm hoping he'll take a long nap today since it's so dreary. Have a great day eveyone!

Good morning, all! Well, poor Luke hsa come down with w cold. Not a horrible one, but he's stuffy and fussy, so I'll probably spend most of the day holding him so he can sleep upright. Oh well, that's my job. At least I did the grocery shopping yesterday, and it's cold and gray here, too, so I don't feel like I'm missing anything. Plus, I taped "Project Runway" and "Justice", so I have something to watch while I snuggle him.

J&D--I never got into "Rock Star", but I'm glad BB7 is over. I couldn't get into the final two at all. Maybe next summer... Looking forward to "Survivor" tonight, we always like the challenges on that one. And AR is great, too. What am I going to do when I don't have a nursing infant for an excuse to sit and watch TV? Maybe I'll have to start ironing things.

GLT--Good luck with your yard sale. Have you considered having a "kid's table" where they can sell some of their old toys? They might make a couple $ and get bit by the yard sale bug for real. I can't wait for next summer when I can start yard saling again--I miss it the "treasure hunting".

Oh, I signed Jocelyn up for gymnastics last night, but not Robert. It turns out, he only wanted to take it because the teacher was cute! Definitely, she's good looking, but her DD is older than Robert, so I'm thinking Bert's a little out of his league! And pardon me for not shelling out $$ for his crush. It makes me wonder if that's why he's taking tap, though--different instructor, and again, she's attractive, but her DD is 16! Ah, my little gigolo!

Oh--funny Jocelyn story. The other day she got home from school, all excited. It seems the skirt she wore used to fall off, practically, and now it doesn't. Okay, she's growing, no biggie, but she goes, "Mom, isn't that great? I'm getting HIPS!" And she's so excited! I hate to tell her they're going to be the curse of womanhood for the next 50 years!

fabumouse--my only suggestion on the bedwetting is to not make too much of a deal about it, but have her help you change the sheets each time. We did this with Robert, who we tthe bed until ~7 1/2. It wasn't punishment, exactly, but I wanted him to know that he was creating extra work. And you know, he really enjoyed arranging his buddies just right, and just "setting things right", if you will. So he felt better about wtting the bed. I found the less of a big deal we made of it, the easier it was for him. I hope that helps.

joats--I hope Jace's lip is better this morning. Such a tricky spot to be injured.

Jill--Glad you found a shortcut to school. And by the way, we love dthe Cherry Squares. I know we tried something else, but it escapes me for now.

Robin--That sounds like a lot of homework. I think Robert got that much for the whole summer, and I had him do a couple pages at a time. Robert's in 4th grade, and generally gets one spelling "thing", like sentences, and then a math worksheet per night. Seems like plenty. I know he'll have larger projects, too. Oh, and he did have one where he had to label all 50 states, that took him a while.

Kim--I hear you on the activities. Itt's just baseball this week, but it gets hairy next week, with dance classes X3, gymnastics, scouts, and they have these mini-courses, where the older two get to go to BOCES (that's like a vo-tech school, for you non-New Yorkers) for special fun classes. It's Robert's first year, but Jocelyn has taken magic, forensics, and acting. Fun, but yet another item on our "to do" list!

Time to go take Robert to school. I'll be lurking a lot today!

sl - Cute picture of Lucas! I hope he takes a nice long nap for you on this dreary day. Target is on our to-do list today too.

j&d - how cute about Jenna! Sounds like you have a reality tv junkie on your hands, lol!

fabumouse - Sorry to hear about the bed wetting. I agree with J&D, I'm sure it's a stress / attention thing. I'm sure it will correct itself shortly.

jill - That's great that stuff seems to be working out. 20 minutes off your drive is great, that's a big deal! Sounds like the nanny is a perfect fit.

diskim -Glad the recipes have worked out for you!

joats - sorry about jace's lip. It's crazy how easily they tumble at this age isn't it?

alice - sounds like you got a good vacuum for the price. I can't believe how much vacuums cost. I'm dreading the day when ours dies and we have to shell out the money for a new one.

I smell a super stinky diaper! Ick!

Have a good day! It's almost Friday!!

Tamie

Good morning mommies! I have not been able to keep up with posting, but I have been reading and am glad all is well for the most part. I have not been feeling so well latley and I seem to be much more uncomfortable sooner with this baby. I saw my Dr. yesterday for my monthly appt and got some pretty interesting news. Our baby is measuring over 32 weeks at this point and I am just hitting 28 weeks. We had a very early u/s to determine gestation so our dates are not off and 12/4 is the correct due date. Gestational diabetes was one of the things she mentioned as a possible cause and I did my 1 hr glucola yesterday to rule that out. I was not aware of this but having larger babies puts the mother at risk for developing non gestational diabetes down the road. Where Aidan was 10lb 12oz and this baby is already over 5 lbs, the baby has to be measured every two weeks. My dr's plan is to get to 36 weeks and hopefully be under 11 lbs by then and do my c-section earlier. If the baby gets to 11lbs before then, we'll have to see. It's still pretty early and hopefully things will be ok. I would rather not have a pre term c section, but where diabetes runs in my family, I am even more of a risk. Does anyone have any experience or thoughts? I am pretty nervous to say the least. I am going to try to stay caught up as best as I can!

Hope you all have a good day!!!

Hi Ladies,

Sorry i've not posted in a couple of days - Kevin has really been a piece of work these last few days and to top it all off he's been having accidents in the bed at night and Tuesday he went in his pants in front of DH and I because he said he couldn't get to the bathroom in time. :guilty:  . He's been a real handful.

I'll catch up with everyone tonight!

Hi ladies. I'm hoping to respond to you all later, but I wanted to let you know my drs. appt. went well yesterday. He gave me a script for stronger medicine for my indigestion. Also, everything was ok with my quad screen.

We got the money for the addition! DH got the letter from the bank yesterday, signed the papers, and is sending them today. He also called the builder and is giving him the stuff we need for our permits. We've picked out our siding color and shingles color. I really need to start to think about colors for the bedrooms and bathroom, not to mention our new family room.

The downside is I have to find a place to store all of our stuff while the roof and back of the house are torn apart. I'm also going to be living with my mom sooner than I anticipated. DH needs to rip our bedroom walls out so the support beam can be put in place. He tells me this yesterday. I didn't think we'd be leaving until the roof came off. I'm just happy we're getting started. I hope we'll be settled in by Christmas. At least I can decorate and put up my new white tree! I'll also be putting the regular tree in the family room, but the white one may go in the dining room.

Morning all!

Lissawyn--great news about getting the money for your rennovation!! :cool1: Too bad you'll be moving out quicker than expected--but hopefully the addition will go smoothly and you'll be back in your new and improved house in no time!

Bellacam--Sorry, I have no advice. But I'll definitely be thinking of you and your new little one--5lbs already! Wow! We definitely grow some big babies here on the Dis! ;)

J&D--too funny about Jenna dancing! :rotfl:

Hillbeans--we had an accident here today as well. Emma just walks up to me calmly and states that she had a "little" accident--but our ideas of "little" are very different! She peed all over herself, the comforter, the sheets, but thankfully she didn't soak through to the mattress--and this is after she'd been up for 2 hours--Oh well, I was doing laundry anyway today!

Last night was fun. I went to a surprise baby shower for a long time friend of mine who was in town for the week from Atlanta. My dsis babysat for me, so I got to have some "me time" as well! Today is a laundry and cleaning day--yesterday I had our windows open b/c it was so nice outside but now there is this funky smell in my house that I'm trying to get rid of--so much for fresh air! Hope everyone has a great day. I'm heading to my parents tonight b/c my dad is going through grandbaby w/drawl, so I"ll check in tomorrow!

Bellacam- I have plenty of experience in growing big babies. At least with Molly, they knew what to watch for. I too have diabetes in my family, and I thought FOR SURE that I was going to develop gestational diabetes. Nope. I did the glucola test 3 times with Molly to make sure.

Molly was measuring 38 weeks on the US at just under 35 weeks. My doctor scheduled me for an induction at 37 weeks on the nose, and I was scheduled for an amnio that morning to make sure he lungs were developed. Turns out I didn't have enough amniotic fluid to do the draw, so that was enough of a reason to do the induction.

I have a feeling something along those lines, but with a scheduled C-section, will happen for you. They will closely monitor baby's growth, they will probably do another glucola test, and they will *try* for baby to make it to 37 weeks, unless s/he is just getting too darn big or you start developing other problems like high BP, etc.

The good news was for me, was that Molly ended up just being 8.5 pounds at 37 weeks- not too hard to push her out after monstro big brother paved the way 3.5 years before.

I do know that having big babies can be an indicator for developing Diabetes later in life, but don't write your future now. That's why I have started exercising like a fiend and watching my diet, so hopefully I don't have to go down that path in 10-20 years. I also tell myself that DH and I are big people, it makes sense that we would have big babies. Even my great grandma had over 9# babies and she was barely 5' tall! (and never had diabetes).

Keep us posted!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi ladies!

I'm so beat today. I keep thinking today is Friday and I realize I have another day to get through. What's worse is that tomorrow is our dreaded pep rally. Ugh!

lissawynn- That's great news about the loan. I hope the renovations get done quickly for you.

bellacam - I can't believe the baby is that big already! I'll be thinking of you and I hope everything goes well.

Bnbmom - I cracked up over Jocelyn being excited about her hips. Emily is the opposite. She doesn't want to grow up. I can't say I blame her.

Jill - I'm glad you will be able to shave some time off your commute.

SL - It's gross here too. I can't wait to go home and put my sweats on.

On the bedwetting issue - Emily wet the bed until she was around 7. Alex went dry for a couple of years but he wets the bed now and he is 6. The problem is that he just sleep so hard and doesn't wake up to go to the bathroom. I don't know how to fix the problem. Emily eventually just stopped. DH wet his be for a long time when he was little too so I guess the kids inherited it.

Well, I should go get some work done. I have no motivation whatsoever. I don't think I'm ever going to get used to this schedule again.

Kim--What's funny with Jocelyn is, she's not at all interested in growing up. The thought of growing breasts scares the snot out of her--she wants no part of it. I think she was just thrilled her pants weren't going to fall down so much. I just thought it was hysterical that she would be excited about hips--I'll have to remind her in 20 years!

OK, I'm back and have a little time to do a proper catch up!

J&D- I too wish the Tink costume had crotch snaps- we are going to have to do some minor altering to fit it better in the torso for Molly. She's just long there- I bought her 18-24 month overalls at Gymbo and they *just* fit. But the 2T pants practically fall off of her. She's kind of in between the 2 sizes and it's annoying. Yet she def. needs the 2T tops. Anyway, that's so cute that Jenna likes to dance with the stars! :cloud9:

lissawynn- CONGRATULATIONS on getting the loan money! FAB! Good luck finding a place for everything and living with your mom for a couple months. Be sure to take before and after pictures. Glad the quad screen was normal and that you got a stronger scrip for your indigestion. :thumbsup2

Kim- I hope you get a 2nd wind this afternoon! The week is ALMOST done! You can make it!

BNB- that's cute about Jocelyn and her 'hips.' I can't imagine that day with Molly. Sounds like you have a busy week next week!

Nuc- glad you got to get out last night! I got to too- to a P. Chef party and I had fun. Molly was a pill for DH, but he dealt with it. She just needs to get over herself and learn that Daddy is a great caregiver too.

Hillbeans and Fab- sounds like your kids are just kind of going thru a transitional stage- Kevin with starting school and Kailey with little sis being born? I'm sure it will go back to normal soon. Just keep praising for keeping dry.

Well, I did errands again today. I went to Target to get what I wanted for my exchange buddy. I got exactly what I wanted that yesterday's Target didn't have. :thumbsup2 And that's ALL I got. Miracle. Then we went to Costco, and of course I forgot to grab bread and oil. Grr....and they didn't have the hot dogs we grew to love this summer. Smaller sized Hebrew Nat'l hot dogs- so delish and not as high calorie as those huge Polish sausages they sell. Darnit! I hate it when Costco does that. I am going to fire off a request to see if they will restock them. All 3 of the kids *love* hot dogs, and I felt OK about giving them these brand since they were all beef and good beef at that, and relatively lower in fat.

I did find this fantastic guide book to France. I plan on curling up with it after I finish tidying up around here and do my workout. So far, we think our plans might be this: London for 4-5 days, Normandy for 2-3 days, and Paris for 7-8 days. And 2 days of that in DLParis. We want to also see the south of France, but we gotta make priorities. Mom and I really want to make sure we really see a lot in Paris, and she is now familiar with London and she said she would like to go back and have me see it too. We'll see. DH thinks we should do Switzerland instead of London, but London to Paris just seems so easy travel-wise. Hopefully this won't be my ONLY trip to Europe in my life- on another trip someday, I would like to see Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, and perhaps Prague or Budapest....someday! I chose Normandy because I really wanted to see some D-Day sites, and then I saw a Samantha Brown show on Normandy and that sold me- it looks absolutely picturesque and beautiful! Mom said 2 years....2008....I said to DH, "I HAVE to go to my Moms meet that summer too!" And he said, "So what- we can still go as a family to WDW right after school lets out, and then you and your mom can go to Europe later that summer- one doesn't affect the other since she is paying for most of your girl's trip." DH is so smart. :goodvibes

Anyway, it's just exciting for me- I figured I wouldn't be taking a trip like this for quite awhile.

Hey everybody! Thanks for the advice on the bedwetting. My MIL thinks I should put Kailey in pull-ups (or "good nights" for bigger kids) so I'm not doing so much laundry. When I broached the idea with Kailey, she was appalled (understandably so, IMHO) and I dropped it. She also sleeps really heavy and when her schedule is off, it takes her that much longer to fall asleep, and when she does she acts like she's drugged.

Anybody have a strong opinion on the pull-ups/good nights thing?

Robin - I'm impressed that you walked out of Target with only the stuff that was on your list. :thumbsup2 What an exciting trip you have planned!

Bellacam - I hope you feel better - but it probably won't happen until you give birth - those last few weeks are SO hard. :goodvibes

Hillbeans - so sorry about your handful. When Kailey was 3, she was an absolute terror and I was ready to sell her to the circus. :clown:

BnB - that is so funny about Robert! :smooth: At least he still shares stuff like that with you.

More later. :wave2:

I just put Tyler down. I'm doubtful that he'll nap, but he'll play up there long enough for me to post. :)

alice - Target does have some cute Halloween stuff. I love the Smith & Hawken glass pumpkin/tea light holder. That might be tough to ship for an exchange gift though. They have plain orange and black buckets with a rope handle. The small one was only $1.99. I think I'll use my paint pens and put Tyler's name on it and decorate it. That can be his trick or treat bag this year. That sounds like an amazing vacation!! Wow!

lissawynn - That's great that you can get started. Yes, you have to take before and after pictures! Sorry you have to go to your mom's sooner than you expected though. That will be an inconvenience, but worth it in the end.

diskim - I have friends that set their alarm for 2 am to get their son up and make him go to the bathroom. He sleeps like a log too!

bellacam - That's a big bun you have in your oven ;) I hope all of your tests come back ok. Sounds like Alice gave you some great first hand experience with those big babies!

nucpharm - Your shower sounds like fun! I got "me" time last night too. I got our house all cleaned up! I feel so much better now that it's done.

hillbeans - Sorry to hear about Kevin's accidents!

bnb - LOL about the hips. Yes, remind her of that someday!!

We are having someone come over tonight to give us a quote on finishing our basement. I'm anxious to see how much he says!

Much to my husbands enjoyment, I've posted a couple pictures of a hot girl in a really cute bikini around the house for my motivation to lose the rest of my weight. I'm sure DH thinks it's great! lol

Talk to you all later.

Tamie

The .05 click is still there. There is also a .25 member survey under offers. Today is the last day of the Find Your Way Back to School sweep at MyPoints. The backpack is in All Merchants.

Tamie- Funny about the girls in bikinis around your house. Good luck with your weight loss.

fabumouse- Maybe putting Kailey in Pull-Ups/Good Nights would give her some motivation to stop wetting the bed. You could tell her that you would put her back in big girl panties if she stays dry for 3 nights in a row (or something like that).

Alice- Jenna loves hot dogs. I started using the turkey ones. I need to try on Jenna's costume to see if it fits.

BnBM- Funny about Jocelyn wanting hips. She can have some of mine. ;)

DisKim- I hope you survive the pep rally tomorrow. My DH's homecoming game is tomorrow night. :cheer2:

lissawynn- Congrats on finally getting your money. Glad your dr. appt went well.

nucpharm- Glad you had fun at the baby shower.

Hillbeans- Sounds like Kevin is reacting to the "stress" of starting school.

bellacam- Sending prayers your way.

SL- Hope the weather cleared up for you.

Only about 2 1/2 hours until Survivor!!!

Tamie,

I do the same thing with pictures and then I get ticked off when Dh looks at them and take them down. :lmao: Dh said he can tell I've lost some weight so that makes me happy.

Robin,

I'm proud of you for only buying what you needed at Target. :teeth:
I'm headed to Target tomorrow. Your trip sounds fantastic.

lissawynn,

Great news on the house. I'm glad the Dr. was able to give you something stronger.

Well, Kona is crying so I'll be back to get caught up.

I have a favor to ask of those of you without kids in school. Would you mind saving Box Tops for Education for me (actually my nephew)??? I would gladly send you a SASE. I know most of you have seen them on some of the products that you buy.

Logo.gif

I can save Campbell's Labels for Education for others. My nephew's school doesn't collect those.

The kids are driving me NUTS today. The only one who is in my good graces is Alex so he just got to pick out a movie to watch. Aidan has been a total horror show. I feel like putting him outside the door and closing it the way Fred Flinstone does with his cat. He is obviously tired but screams his head off when I try to put him down. All he does is touch everything with an electric current in this house and scream at me. On top of that, he grabbed a knife out of the dishwasher while I was trying to do dishes. I think Alex thinks I'm putting him up for adoption. That was Alex's suggestion anyway  . Emily was totally disrespectful today to both me and DH. Now, DH is taping a meeting so I'm alone with the kids.

Robin - Your trip sounds fantastic. I could get a scholarship to study at the Globe theater because my friend is the president of the board but I just can't get myself to do it. I promised Emily a mother/daughter trip to Europe when she graduates high school. I think it is so nice that you and your mom go on trips together.

Aidan is screaming again. Hi to everyone else  . I'm sorry I didn't have time to post anymore.
