Thanks, ladies, for the good diaper advice...I am almost through with the Huggies I got last week at Target (liked the $5 gift card...) and will go back to Pampers and see if there's a difference. Before this week I've been using a variety that I got from a neighbor. The girls were loyal to Huggies, but I'm ready to try anything to keep Carson dry.

DisKim... :grouphug: I know it is hard - especially at the beginning of the year. I have managed to stay home with the girls from the beginning, although I did teach part-time once Hannah (10) started pre-school. I worked half-days through last year when we moved up here to Chicago and I couldn't find a job. Now we have added Carson to the mix and it is going to be very tough financially as long as we live up here in this crazy-expensive location. We are making major cuts all across the board and it's hard trying to keep the girls "in the manner in which they're accustomed  ". We're basically "house poor" as we over-bought because we couldn't find anything we could really afford that was nice. NEVER AGAIN will we do this...hopefully we'll be moving down south by this time next year and life will be a bit more affordable. Anyway, I'll be going back to full-time teaching when Carson starts school (if I don't have to before) and will most definitely be working until I'm ancient!!! Hang in there! It sounds as if you do so much for/with your kids and you have a good balance going even though it's hard. :grouphug:

Well, I need to go make a salad - DH is smoking a chicken. And, I bought an APPLE PIE today because all of that talk on this thread got me craving one...CAN'T WAIT!! It will be strange to be alone with Carson tomorrow once everyone goes back to school/work. Maybe I can clean a little! :)

DisKim,

I'm glad to hear you had a good day today. I hope you have a great week. I'm sure Aidan will be just fine.

dizagain,

Good luck with the diaper issue. I know a lot of people really like Pampers. We use Pampers for our DD but we've started having lots of issues with them lately-the Baby Dry ones.

Tasha&Scott,

I'm glad to hear you are getting a lot accomplished with your studying. Thanks for doing the list.

It was me who PM'd Tasha because I had been dealing with someone who was a bit "off" here on the DIS and I didn't want them to have Kona's birth date. Ugh, sometimes the internet isn't all that safe.

I'm glad Kylie is having a great time at daycare. It really sounds like she is making herself at home. :thumbsup2 That's wonderful.

DH is at the Miami/FSU game so the kids and I are just taking it easy. The only place we went today was Walgreens to get diapers they had on sale and a birthday card for my Mom-they had really cute card making kits and we picked one up. The kids made the cutest cards for her.

Off to get the kids cleaned up.

FF- I'm sorry you are dealing with someone 'off' here. I've had that a couple times, but not for awhile. I was going to go to Walgreens as well later this week to grab some diapers- they seemed to have a good deal with Pampers.

Kim- Glad you had a good day. The spray park sounds like something my kids would have a blast with too! I will be thinking of you this week, and hoping that adjusting to the back to school routine will be easy, both for you and Aidan. The staff issues at your school sound familiar. I don't get why some people even go into teaching if they're not going to teach!

dizagain- where do you think you will move down south? Are you originally from that area?

Well, we had a BBQ disaster. DH spent $370 getting his smoker/BBQ fixed, repainted and had a thermostat added on. He 'seasoned' it for 3 hours yesterday to seal the paint job and then he also BBQed some steaks for dinner. Well, he goes to start the ribs, gets the heat up high, no problems. Turns it low to smoke them. 15 minutes later he smells turpentine and sees black smoke. Basically our 3 racks of ribs were covered in turpentine/grease/paint. :furious: :furious: :furious: He was so mad he was almost speechless. He called the store and the company, took pictures. They said they would reimburse us the cost of the meat, but I want some of our $370 back! This company has an EXCELLENT reputation and I can't believe they didn't do this right! Now he has to load up the several hundred pound BBQ back in the truck and take it back to the BBQ store so they can send it back to the manufacturer again. Just what he has time for this week.

So, the poor guy is getting some buckets of KFC. We are having my parents and neighbors over; luckily they understand. :sad2:

FF - It would really freak me out if I felt I came in contact with someone "off" here.

Robin - I can't believe that happened with the bbq! Well, KFC is yummy. Your poor DH must be so mad. Thanks for the good wishes. I'll be okay. If you saw me at work, you would have no idea how I feel inside. Sometimes I think that I should have been an actress. I should have received an Emmy by now for the act I put on every day. My students would never know that I am unhappy being there.

Well, I stopped in because I am having a mental block. I'm trying to plan my first week of lessons and I'm stuck. I'm bored with the material. I think ice breaker type lessons are corny and refuse to do them. I guess I'll have to start with reviewing parts of plot and the first short story in the book like I normally do. Yuck! I've been searching lesson plans on the internet and they are all for elementary school. OK, I'm going to just give it up and fly by the seat of my pants like I always do. That's the way I teach best. I can't plan things out ahead of time. Lesson plans are a monkey on my back. I hate them!!

Wow...two more seconds to stop in after I listed a couple of books on Amazon. DH and both DD's are playing with Carson, so I'm staying out of it!

Alice28...That BBQ story made me smile. DH would be absolutely insane! I love KFC, though - I'm sure everyone was quite entertained!

I am from Memphis originally, then Madison, MS, followed by the Dallas area from 2000-2005...that is where I call "home" because DD's spent their elementary years there and we have such good friends. Now, we're sort of hoping for Memphis or Nashville which would put us much closer to all of our family members who live in Georgia and Alabama. ANYWHERE would be better than here, imo!!! :)

Good night!

dizagain~ I live in northeast Mississippi. I live close to the AL line and I am not that far from Memphis either. I am not originally from here though. I am not really from anywhere though since I grew up moving around a lot. My parents were in the Air Force. I have lived here a while now though so I do consider MS to be home. Dh is from here and Kylie was of course born here so I'm pretty content. Oh, and I don't think I ever welcomed you and Carson to the New Moms thread so 'Welcome and congrats on Carson!'

ff~ Don't worry! I completely understood why you didn't want Kona's name on the list. That is why I am letting everyone know if they want their child's name removed then I will do so because you are so right. These days you just never know! It's a sad world we live in. :(

Well, I need to go get a workout in and take a shower (and study a little more...I will probably be burnt out before this semester's over!) before bed. Goodnight!

Hey everyone! Hope everyone had a great Labor Day Holiday. We dropped IL's off at the airport and they got off without any problems. Then we hit Best Buy and Home Depot so DH could spend some bday money. We ended up with a receiver and surround sound speakers for our bedroom (like we need more electronics in our house) and a new grill. I got to try out the new grill this evening, and though I'm partial to grilling with charcoal--this is my first experienc with a gas grill--it was really quick and much cleaner than charcoal. I made some really yummy pulled chicken bbq and some grilled peaches that we served with vanilla ice cream! Yummo!!!

Alice--sorry to hear about the grill issue! I would've been steamed! Hopefully you will be able to recoup some of your money

DisKim--hope you can get your lesson plans done.

Dizagain--I hear you about wanting to move back south. DH was transferred from Arkansas to Wisconsin 4 years ago, and just this July he was moved back down here. I have never been so happy as the day he called to see if it would be okay if he accepted the new position--like it was even an issue!!!

Well, off to check on Ebay to see if I won the outfit I was bidding on--and then hopefully off to bed early (that is if DH gets our speakers hooked up in this lifetime!! Ha!) Nighty night!

Joats- Glad you got to see your parents on the London webcam :)

Alice- sorry about the migraines. I tend to get migraines seasonally along with my allergies and it’s just about that time of year. Oh joy! Oh no about the BBQ disaster!

DisKim- It’s great that you had a better day today. I was also shocked to hear about Steve Irwin. DH and I swam with stingrays last summer and it’s hard to believe that someone could die from their sting like that.

We were back at Home Depot again today. One of the guys in the paint section was actually excited to see us and wondering how the painting was going. DBro was like a terror this afternoon though. He got paint on his clothes, so I had him hanging out around the house in just his jockey shorts. So as soon as I’m settled nursing Olivia he takes off the shorts and starts running through the backyard. DSis(8) starts freaking out, so she calls my dad and tells him that DBro is naked, outside in the backyard by himself and out of control. I felt like such a loser. It got worse though. I tried to do some laundry and couldn’t figure out why the machine cut out mid-cycle for about an hour and a half. It turned out that the electric wire was just lose and had to be pressed back into the socket harder.

Tomorrow should be interesting. It’s the first day back to school for my sisters and Olivia has her five month doctor’s appointment. DH won’t be home from work until after 1 am, so I’m going to be tossing and turning until then!

Darn....sounds like it was funny!

I just loaded my Gymbo online cart. About, oh, $290. :rolleyes1 But I added everything up with the baby sale prices, took the 20% off, added in my returns I need to make, and it should only cost me right about $100 OOP. Not bad! I sure love this new baby girl line!

Kim- I wish I knew how to do clip art, cause I would put a clip art of an Emmy here for you! You deserve one. I'm the worst at masking my feelings. Sometimes I wish I was better at it!

GM- sorry, but I LOLed about your dear bro. My boys, esp my oldest, LOVED to run around the yard naked! FINALLY around 4 or 5 he started to get self-conscious about it.

nuc- hope you won the outfit you wanted! And cool that you got a new grill!

Well, the dinner was fine, everyone enjoyed the KFC. Who doesn't like KFC once in awhile? We showed off our new carpet and bed to our neighbors and they really liked the carpet. Their house was built at the same time ours was remodeled, by the same builder (basically the builder bought our lot and split it, and built their house). So they have the same cheap ***, grody carpeting we had, but in gray. She wants me to write down the name of the carpet we bought so they can look into it. I can't believe she's already 27 weeks pregnant! On her 3rd trimester already! Time sure flies when you're not the one pregnant, no? Anyway, we had a great time with my parents and our neighbors and it was very nice way to end the summer. :sunny:

I'm going to hop in the shower for a rinse and head to my dreamy bed. :cloud9: I think I'm waxing on too much about my bed....sorry! I've just never had a nice bed! It was either hand me down mattresses, or the queen sized mattresses on sale for $400 for the set. And the fact that it's a king makes us feel quite luxurious. OK, enough!

Good morning. I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend. I sure did. I could feel my blood pressure rising as I drove into work today. I just had a feeling the guys in my new office hadn't cleared my desk off - sure enough, I peeked in and saw 5 monitors and 2 computer towers on and all around my desk. This means I can't move there yet and both the gigglers are in today. I just may have a breakdown. Sorry to whine on and on so much - you all must think all I do is *itch about work, my mom, my MIL, and my sister. I do have other interests, I promise! :teeth:

We got Lucas a few things at the Children's Place outlet yesterday. We also got quite a bit of junk food at the Pepperidge Farm outlet - yum! We did end up finding my sister and her family so we walked around with them for a little while.

zalansky - Cameryn and I have the same birthday!

DisKim - Good luck on your first day back! I'll be happy to listen to you vent if it doesn't go well. :wizard:

joats - I enjoyed all your posting this weekend. Hurry back!

dizagain - I hope the Swaddlers work for you. Let us know.

Tasha - Thanks for posting the birthday list. School sounds like it's keeping you busy!

floridafam - Sorry you had a bad experience with someone. I had a run in with a few people when I was relatively new and it really soured me on this board. I'm glad I found you ladies, though! I missed that waxing thread - it must have been something to be deleted instead of just locked.

Alice28 - Sorry your DH's BBQ broke. I hope you can get some of your money back.

ginamarie - Good luck at Olivia's appointment.

glt - Good luck at Leif's appointment. I hope he doesn't have an ear infection.

val - Good luck at Katrina's appointment. Looks like a lot of our babies have to go in today.

Sorry if I missed anyone. I'll check in again later.

Hey all. I only have time for a quick response since we'll be changing classes in less than 8 minutes. We had a nice day yesterday. I did get lost on my way to the bday party and drove around for an extra 30 minutes. DH had to work all day yesterday, so we didn't see much of him.

DisKim - I think one of the reasons I want to work is b/c I enjoy our faculty so much. If I had to be in your position, I'd probably be trying to get out, too. I totally understand about the lesson plans. I hate them. I have most of September planned out just b/c it's easier for me to get my copying done and have the stuff I need. That way I can leave here at 3 each day.

SL - I really like the stuff at TCP, although, I've found that their stuff runs big. Jimmy is still in their 24 mo. stuff that I bought last year.

Alice - Sorry about the bbq. I love KFC and now I've got the craving for it.

Ginamarie - Glad to hear you're making lots of progress on the house.

nucpharm - Glad you're enjoying your new grill. Our Weber grill was one of the best investments we ever made.

Sorry to miss so many of you, but I've gotta get back to work!

Morning!

I just wanted to say hi. I just spent the past hour and a half reading everything I missed this weekend. Now I don't have any time to do a proper post because I need to hop in the shower and head out the door.

Hopefully I can get back on this afternoon.

Hi to everyone  Hope you all enjoyed your long weekends!

AAAGGHHH...preteen drama alert!!!

Ok, so it's picture day for Hayley (12) at good old middle school. She happens to have hair like mine which means very thick, wavy-but-not-wavy-enough-to-look-good. I personally hot roll mine for like a minute every other day and with long layers and thinning shears it looks ok. She says curling is not cool and the straightener only works on her if it's nice and sunny with no humidity. Well, it's pouring rain today. The girl was a nut case running around crying and yelling at me to fix it and stressing me out. Of course, Carson wakes up to eat RIGHT THEN so I'm quick trying to get a bottle down him and passing him off to Hannah who decided to cooperate. So, she would not stop yelling at me and finally I broke down and got MAD - really mad like I even used some ugly words (not directed AT her, but still...). So, I get her hair done the best way I could and she's going on and on about being ugly, etc. Sigh. I apologized and got us both calmed down, but it was not a fun morning...feel like such a bad mom! I mean, don't we all remember picture day in middle school???

Ok, feel better now. Hope all the babies have not-too-stressful doctor's appointments today! Good luck to all of you who start school today or who send their sweeties off! Hmm...empty house except for me and Carson who is sleeping. What to do, what to do...sleep or clean? What would you choose? :teeth:

Hi mommies, sorry it has been so long since we have posted. We are doing well.

We went up to Mackinaw Island a few weekends ago. My friend's parents have a cottage about 20 miles west of there. We had a great time. We rented bikes (I wish we bought ours) and rode around the Island. My friends son (4 weeks younger then Lily so just 2 years old.) He ran out into the road when we were stopped and got hit by a bike. A young girl was riding it, she was so shock up (as we all were.) He had a very large hematoma on his forehead but seemed ok. Since we had been down this rote with Lily last year (when she feel off a stool and hit her head on the bathroom title floor) I was pretty sure he was ok. Still we all felt better getting him checked out so we road BACK into town (we were almost half way around the Island) and had the doc at the med center give him a once over (they were very nice, just came out into the waiting room and take a look at him to be sure he was ok, no paper work.) We had lunch at the Grand Hotel Gate House (much more relaxed) and then headed out to go around the Island AGAIN (this time we made it all the way.) It was a great day (except for the bump.) :thumbsup2

I just dropped Anna of on her 1st day of school. (K) I am feeling rather down about it. Just mixed emotions and fear of change. It turns out I asked for her in Mornings, and now I am wishing she was in afternoons. There are 3 classes, but as I knew it would happen the only other kid she knows already is another little boy in our neighbor that she doesn't like (and I am not too found of his mom either, friends of friends.) He is a bit of a bully and isn't nice to girls, so I don't blame her at all. I also over heard that we have an peanut allergy too, not sure how that will play out, but she doesn't eat lunch there and even if she did I don't think I would bring Peanut butter anyway because of allergies. And the school got a new principle last week (the old one was promoted.

Not I am not sure what to do with myself with out Anna. At least I still have Lily.

dizagain - Since I spend the majority of my waking hours with middle schoolers, I understand your morning. Last year our district adopted a uniform policy, so we don't have the "what to wear for pictures" dilema. If she dislikes her pic that much, can she have it redone? Btw, I would totally go back to bed if I could. I wake up most mornings counting the hours until it's bedtime.

Hi Tamie!

I have stuff to do. Ick. I hate it when my work gets in the way of my posting.

ETA - Has anyone seen nice navy maternity pants? I'm looking for something like a wrinkle resistant cotton. Let me know if you come across anything.

Hi Everyone! :sunny:

I only have a minute to post since John is napping and I really need to get back to studying. :surfweb:

I hope that all the mom's who sent kids off to school today are doing well! :grouphug: It is so quiet around here without Meagan and Katie. John and I miss them both.

I've been trying to keep up with everyone's posts, but I can't reply to everyone at the moment. I'm sorry! I was afraid this was going to happen. :guilty: I'm starting to get overwhelmed with all of the work that I need to accomplish this semester and really think that I have taken on one class too many. Oh well, I've got to grin and bear it now.

This is a crazy week here school wise for me. I've got to leave in a few hours for school and I won't get to see the girls until tomorrow morning. :guilty: I hope that they have a great first day of school. Saturday, I have yet another licensing exam. (Virginia now requires 4 exams and I have taken two of the four so far.) I need to get ready for the exam in addition to my school work. I hope the family likes fast food for dinner this week!

I do want tell DisKim that I am thinking of her! :grouphug: I'm sorry about what you are going through and wish that I could wave a magic wand and make everything all right for you. Like everyone else has said, you are a wonderful loving mother and don't ever forget that. Good luck getting your lessons done and know that I am thinking of you!

I hope that all of you ladies are doing well! I'm thinking of you all and can't wait to catch up with you soon. :wave2:

Morning all~

Well, I got Sam on the bus for his first day of 3rd grade! :cool1: Josh, Molly and I are hanging out and cleaning until it's 11:15 and we can go take Joshua to Kinder. He's really excited! I forgot to take a picture of Sam this morning. I will have to do it when he gets home.

Diz- I'm sorry you had a hectic morning with hair issues. I have crazy hair too, and it was very hard to get right in junior high. I hope the rest of the day is peaceful for you!

Jill- hang in there! I know you will be able to get through school! :grouphug:

Hi DisneyPhD! Good to see you again! Hard to believe Anna is in school already! That's scary about your friend's DS getting hit on vacation! I'm glad he's OK!

Hi Tamie!

SL- I cannot believe your desk situation at work is STILL not remidied! That is crazy. :furious:

Hi lissa! I hope you find some navy maternity pants. Does lands end have maternity? I forget. It seems like they would have something like that if they do carry maternity. Have you looked at Gap.com? I got two pairs of the BEST maternity pants ever there when I was PG with Josh.

GM- how did Olivia's appt go? Molly has her 18 month one on Thursday.

Hope Kim is doing OK!

Anyway, I am now going to mop the upstairs bathroom. It's gross since I haven't done it in almost a month. We had stuff in there while the carpets were being done, and DH FINALLY took the gun safe out yesterday!!!!! And accidentally dinged the floor...it was gross linoleum anyway, but now it's something that does need to be added to the 'someday to do' list. I have heard linoleum is crazy-expensive to replace.
