The Official May 2015 Thread!!

Hi all! My family went through a hellish year and although we had been planning on a big two week trip October 2016 now I've gotten it into my mind that we should take a trip this spring to help us celebrate and bond. Basically my husband became suicidal, our whole family was in crisis. He is now much better, got the help he needed and I am feeling so hopeful that we will be ok. We are so much happier now :) sorry went off on a tangent....but sharing this because we had the other trip planned long tern to save money. If we go this year we will cut back on most of our plans....AoA mermaid rooms are booked solid so I think we would stay at pop. I will probably fit in two more expensive/character meals but that's it. I have to keep it under 5k. This also cuts our future trip down quite a bit but it ght be worth it,

My two issues are money and crowds. My daughter turns 8 on May 24th, which is what led me to May....but the end of the month is so busy! We've been twice and had 1-3 crowd level days. We had two days that were supposedly a 7 and we were kind of stressed. I am looking at the beginning of the month my daughter won't mind celebrating early!

So my biggest questions about May are....Star Wars weekends. We are fans, especially my three year old son. Bt I am worried the crowds will be too crazy? We don't plan on meeting celebs, and would do the Jedi training academy on another day. Has anyone been and found it's worth the crowd difference of a 4 vs an 8? What's the best thing about it for you?

The other question is what do you like most about going in May? I could put it off until the fall but I am curious what the world is like in the spring .)

Then again I might just spend 1/4 the money and go somewhere local..but it's just not the same :|).

We were there the first week of May in 2013 and found the crowds and weather to be quite pleasant (though a bit too much rain!) The flower and garden show at Epcot was amazing as well! We walked around for several hours just admiring the topiaries! Next year we are going the last week of May, to experience some of SWW. We know it will be hotter and we know it will be more crowded than earlier in the month. But like you, we are not into the celebrity meet and greets, just want to experience the parade, fireworks, and are doing the 2 character meals to get our "fix" :) There is a great SWW thread here that will give you an idea of what to expect. I've been reading through it, and it seems that most of the crazy crowds/lines center around the celebrities. If you aren't interested in that, you probably won't encounter much heavier crowds than "normal" for other attractions. You are smart to plan JTA for a different day, too...I've read that sign ups are CRAZY during SWW and the sessions are larger and more rushed.

Ok y'all, I know it's a long way off - but who's joining me in this happy dance?
:banana: We haven't booked anything yet, but I'm looking at May 16, 2015! :goodvibes

I'll start off this dance party! Let me know what your dates and places are and I'll add you!

We booked for May 24-29 2015. This is our first trip to Disneyworld! Dining reservations are complete. Super Excited!!!!!

Just booked a SURPRISE Birthday gift to my son for May 28 - June 2nd!!! Keeping it a secret and planning on waking him up early May 28th (with his bags seceretly packed) and telling him "Get up and put your clothes on we're going to Disney World!!!". So excited....praying for limited rain!!

I've read that they usually release some free dining in May, have you guys experienced this?

When we were there in May 2013 there wasn't free dining being offered, just a Room Only discount (which I think was actually a better deal). That was early May, however, so not sure what may have been offered later in the month. www.mousesavers.com keeps a list of historical discounts offered and dates they were released to the public - you could check there for your specific travel dates to see what has been offered in the past.

I'll be staying at the Sheraton Vistana Resort from May 2nd to the 16th!! And I have been following Gina Gina Bo Bina's trip reports and see we will be there the same time!!:)

That is SO AWESOME! :thumbsup2

Let me know if you are interested in getting together for a drink at the Tacky Tiki Bar! :)

We are booked May 23 - 31, 2015 for Port Orleans Riverside. ADRs are made--just looking for a little later time for Jiko on 5/30. Also keeping fingers crossed for good RO discounts to be announced at the new year!

Could you add us to the list? We're going April 29-May 11!! DS5 and I are going for a few days to AoA and then DH will join us on May 2 for BWI. Well, that's where we are currently booked with a Magical Deal, but I'm really hoping the ROs are good for BC. Super excited either way though!!

So I've been planning this trip for a while and deciding on a month was so hard. We don't want to go during spring break season and want it to be warm enough for the waterpark, but not miserable. DS5 gets cold pretty easily in the water and even though we had several 80+ days during our Dec '12 trip, the cold wind made the pool pretty unenjoyable.

For me, I can handle 10 degree spike in temperature so much better than 10% humidity. We live in SoCal and when it's humid here, I just want to go take a nap. I consulted many many charts and graphs for Orlando and they mostly said May is on average very slightly less humid than even December. What is your experience?

I realize it will be hotter than December, or just whatever temperature, like the random temps here in SoCal, but I'm hoping I haven't made a bad decision with the humidity.

My sister told me I'm nuts to go Florida in May and I should go in October. Little seed of doubt planted. LOL

I have been in both May and October and found the temperatures very similar. In May we had more rain, and in October the nights were cooler. Other than that, no noticeable difference in my opinion! Of course that can change by the year (or the day!) but I think you will find early May quite pleasant and perfect for swimming! :)

Thanks. I'm booking airfare soon which is the first non refundable thing. I'm a libra and I have trouble not weighing options. :-)

I understand....it's a big investment!! I usually second guess most aspects of my trips up until the day I leave, LOL. But we picked early May for our first WDW trip for the same reasons you did....after spring break and before summer for the crowds, hot but not miserable weather, and I don't regret that decision at all. May was so perfect we are going back in May 2015 :)

we were originaly going may 2 but airline changed it may 3-may 10 staying at AOA.....first disney trip ever.....can't wait for christms morning to surprise the kids....:)

Yes, THIS. Me too :) the upside is we usually end up making great decisions right? I swear every time I buy somehitng significant without checking it out first it ends io being a bad purchase. :)

That sounds amazing, will yu share their reaction here? You will love AoA I am so sad all of the mermaid rooms are booked for our dates this may. I waited too long. Hoping on our next trip which we will have a bigger budget for we do some of the time at a suite. I swear it's a hard decision between non construction poly and AoA I loved it so much. Especially for younger kids :)

Thanks again for the reassurance. My son will be so thrilled that it's swim weather so I need to just get over the melting aspect. :-)

Totally. We've had a lot of great vacations with planning. Sometimes I just need to ignore all the people and their "helpful" advice. ;-)
