The Official... "I Give Up!" Thread

I guess my Hubby will be getting his dream this year.. NO DISNEY! That was our deal.. no Free dining = No Disney. :confused3 Looking into Dollywood right now:scared1: I contacted Dollywood to see if they have Guest Assistance Passes and my answer was NO. UGHH... Driving from New York.. anyone have any ideas for an austistic, adhd little girl.. I'm gonna miss Disney:eek:

Every day my husband asks, "How about a code, what discounts do you have for our trip?"

To hear my husband say that just once would be heaven hehe. I feel I will be among the losers as well. Although I do have flexible dates and the bulk of the money to pay off a ressie already saved up and ready to go if free dining comes through. But it is looking like we will move our dates to 11/27 - 12/2 for my daughters grad trip. Still trying to hold out hope though.

Might as well add me. Our dates are the 14-21st of August. :(

We will be spending a lot less money on extras if there are no discounts at all.

Can anyone remember if they offered a discount on a MYW package closer to July for August last year? I think they offered $45 off a moderate on a room only last year closer to August but I don't know about a package.

I am so sorry, everyone! We are definately NOT losers. We have the DIS. AND we are all going to Disney anyway. Some people are not so fortunate, so I'm happy. It would have been nice to save some money, but going every two years is better than nothing at all!:goodvibes

P.S. I am still secretly wishing. I haven't given up all hope yet!:hourglass

Uber loser here.

Joined AAA, but that's the only discount I'm getting. DH is a teacher. We're always losers when it comes to travel discounts.

I don't know how smart they will feel when the cancellations start rolling in. US/IOA are offering deals for EVERYONE during this time period. We may be moving our loyalty. I am guessing that quite a few WDW vacationers will move their dates to the free dining time period and there will be others who will just cancel. Moving our dates isn't an option for us due to the school start date here. :confused3

Oh I hope you're right! We'll be there the same dates as the OP, and I'd feel like a huge winner if the parks and resorts were quiet!

Either way, we have to be there for the dates, I'm planning on having a blast! If this means heading offsite to eat once in awhile, that's fine by me! (Without dining, I'm just not inclined to spend that kind of money for mediocre food...) :confused3 :rolleyes1

I'm still going to keep my eyes open though, we have AAA as a last resort, but if IOA is offering perks, I think Disney may kick in something....

:flower3:

We will be going 19-25th so, hopefully if there is no free dining it will definitely be one of the "quiet" weeks as advertised. We have been lucky the last couple years and still will probably do a AAA discount but free dining would have been awesome for our group!

Don't think I feel like a loser on the free dining part but coupled with the fact I didn't get the 40% code either...that kinda makes me feel like a loser. Especially since my dd who has not been in years got one at her house that they couldn't use! Couldn't even come with us due to work and pregnancy! ( Not that I am not happy about new gd...that helps ALOT in the loser category)

We were there in WDW this Christmas and started to book a return trip with free dining. We had some problems and never finalized the trip. We lost the free dining and we didnt book another trip yet ....we were hoping for the free dining...Add us to the list!

It is looking more and more like our next trip will be moving until sometime in 2008. Just lookin for the best deal........

What type of deals are US/IOA offering? :surfweb:

I was planning to go to WDW 8/21-9/4. When the dates were announced, I decided to do US/IOA 8/22-8/26 then WDW 8/26- 9/4. However, Universal's resorts are way more than I was hoping to pay.:scared1: We're just not in the rooms long enough to justify those prices.:sad2:

I need to find out what deals I missed. Maybe the price won't be so bad after all.

Those of you going in early August, don't forget about free dining booked by UK and the bounce back groups.

I wonder if they will offer the bounce pack program again this December?

No one is a loser. It's just not your turn right now. For me, that was last December. I had to pay rack rate for 10 days in early December because they didn't have any AP or Fla Res rates at the resort I had booked. But then in February, I got a really great AP rate for the next 10 day trip. I've got a 17 day one booked in September with an AAA discount (keeping my fingers crossed for a good AP or Fla Res). Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. But we all get our turn.

Sadly, I too will join the loser club. We went during free dining last August...it was nice, but not really necessary for us. We are a "small family" of light eaters and generally split portions. I would rather have "free concierge." We stayed at POR, it was okay. What I didn't like was the inflexibility of the ADR's. You couldn't get into any decent table service restaurant at at the last minute. We had to stick to a rigid schedule just to make our adr's at the restaurants we had to select months in advance. Unfortunately, I saw lots of people yelling at the CM's at the podiums outside the restaurants...not very Disney-like behavior.

We had planned on going 8/11-8/25, but without free dining or another substantial discount we'll be sitting home, eating Top Ramen. All right, maybe I'm exaggerating a little. But our dd turns 10 this spring, so she's reached the magical age where paying for the DDP isn't practical for our family. And I'm unwilling to fight the crowds of free diners at the restaurants if I myself don't have free dining. If another good discount came along, I'd probably reconsider, and just eat differently, but that would have to be one good discount. Hmm, free concierge upgrade--that would do it!

So we're already considering going later in the year or possibly next year. In the meantime, I've started looking into all-inclusive resorts and cruises. An article in our paper a few weeks ago said there was a big influx of new ships into the Caribbean this year, but not enough passengers to fill them all, so there are supposed to be some great deals coming up.

I am booked 8/5-8/14 with Disney for a package with no discount. I am so reluctant to switch and book my package with AAA for the discount, since I prefer doing my own ressies with WDTC, and I hear such mixed reviews about AAA travel.

Tiggrsbride,

I am looking into going in August and if I can't get the free dining I am considering joining AAA to get a discount. What do you mean when you say you prefer doing your own ressies with WDTC? If I book through AAA can I still call CRO to make my dining ADR's? Thanks.

Okay, I'll join the club too.

DH doesn't want to go if there are no discounts to be had at WDW. Added to he had me wait on airfare for better prices. Yeah that worked real well, the prices went up. (I so bad wanted to say "I told you so" but I kept mum.)

The costs are far more than I budgeted for and because of that he's practically refusing to go this summer. He's insisting that we go during the school year. DS11 doesn't want to miss school. (Starts Aug 15, they aren't even getting out until June 2 so we were fairly limited with dates.) I give him a lot of credit for letting us know how he feels. He's the one who would have to make up the work so I think his opinion needs to be considered.

I just can't win at this point. I guess we'll sit at home and watch the grass grow.

You can make your ADR's yourself, however you can't make changes to your reservations, for example changing dates.

My AAA agent offered to make my ADR's, but I didn't want to torture her.

I didn't get the 40 percent off postcard for Sept. ;-( Joining the LOSER Club. Still would like free dinning.

Well, you can officially add me to the list of giver uppers, lol!

We just booked a room only ressie for POR for Aug 12 - Aug 24 with an AAA discount. No dining for us. :( I'll get tickets through undercovertourist when the dates get closer.

I held out as long as I could, but I caved today. I don't want to wait too long and then possibly not be able to even get the AAA discount. So, we're still going:banana:  , but just will be eating a lot of chicken nuggets and hot dogs, lol!
