Here's the article

LOS ANGELES - Isaiah Washington’s Dr. Preston Burke packed his bags on the season finale of “Grey's Anatomy” but that doesn’t mean the actor is being dumped by the show, his publicist said Friday.
“We fully expect to be back in the fall,” spokesman Howard Bragman said. “The deal’s not done but we have no reason to believe he won’t be putting on the scrubs.”
A furor over Washington’s use of an anti-gay slur had provoked speculation that his job might be in jeopardy. He said the word backstage at the Golden Globe Awards in January while denying he’d used it previously against castmate T.R. Knight.
Thursday’s finale seemed to open the door for the departure of Washington’s character. Burke was on the verge of marrying Dr. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), but her doubts at first delayed and then derailed their splashy wedding.
“I’m up there waiting for you to come down the aisle and I know you don’t want to come,” Burke told a shocked Cristina. “If I loved you, I wouldn’t be up there waiting for you. I would be letting you go.”
Then he did just that. Later, Cristina found that Burke had cleared his favorite possessions out of their apartment.
ABC declined comment Friday on Washington’s status.
But a source close to the production, speaking on condition of anonymity because she was not authorized to comment publicly, said the finale doesn’t indicate that Washington is a goner from “Grey’s.”
“A lot of character story lines were left in question. It’s a cliffhanger finale,” the source said. “T.R’s character looks like he could be going. ... It doesn’t necessarily mean anything.”
Knight’s character, George O’Malley, was the only intern to fail the end-of-year exam and he was seen in the finale cleaning out his locker after deciding against repeating his intern stint.Washington will spend the summer working, his publicist said, not worrying about the show. The actor leaves next week to continue his charity work in Sierra Leone, which a DNA test showed to be his ancestral home.
Washington, who started a nonprofit foundation last year to improve the lives of people in the West African nation, plans to deliver mosquito netting and check on a school he helped found.

OK - to confuse the issue even more: Is Lexie the daughter who came to the hospital with Meredith's father when he told her not to come to the funeral? He had a daughter with him, but I don't remember if she was Lexie or not.

Yes, that was Lexie. My DH picked up on that as soon as she sat down at the bar with Derek. I hate it when he's right about stuff... :rotfl2:

And for those of you that watched it.... the actress playing Lexie played "Carla" in the short-lived series, "Reunion." I loved that show... but the network pulled it before the conclusion of the first season....

Ohhh more news:

Isaiah Washington Out of 'Grey's Anatomy'
Actor's contract not picked up for next season

Isaiah Washington has been let go from "Grey's Anatomy" after a tumultuous season that included on-set tension and a controversy over his use of a gay slur.

The 43-year-old Washington, who played Dr. Preston Burke on the ABC hit, won't be back next season; ABC Studios, which produces the show, confirms that it didn't pick up his contract option for next season. There aren't many details beyond that, although a number of reports cite his behavior -- including the incident in which he allegedly directed a homophobic slur against co-star T.R. Knight -- as playing a role in the producers' decision.

Washington's only comment on the situation comes via his publicist and quotes Howard Beale in "Network": "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore."

Speculation about Washington's fate on "Grey's" has swirled since the season finale, when Burke split with fiancee Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) and moved out of the apartment the couple shared. Reports say the final decision came down Thursday -- not long after word came that Knight, whose character was also at loose ends in the finale, would be returning.

Washington first attracted controversy last fall when, in a dustup on the show's set, he reportedly called Knight a "******." The matter died down until the Golden Globe awards in January, when, as the cast and crew were backstage celebrating a win for best drama series, Washington leaned into the microphone to assert that he hadn't used the slur.

That set off a huge volley of protest, with other cast members, notably Katherine Heigl, rallying behind Knight and activist groups demanding that Washington apologize. He eventually did, and also entered counseling and taped a public service announcement about the power of words.

How the show explains Washington's departure on screen remains to be seen. The rest of the cast -- except Kate Walsh, who's moved on to the spinoff "Private Practice" -- is expected back next season, although Heigl is still negotiating.

YAY!!! George is coming back!!!!

Not surprised at all about Burke...

Anxiously awaiting Season 4 - premiering September 27th!

I know there really wasn't any cliff hanging endings but any speculation, theories for the new season.

What will happen with McDreamy & Mer?
What about Mer's sister now coming into the picture?
How will they write out Burke? Does he just disappear after the wedding?
How will they transition the spinoff Private Practice Addison out? (premiering the night before! Sept. 26th)
What will George do now that he has to repeat his year?
Izzy & George & Callie...oh my!

I don't think Mere & Der will be together for all of this season... They've got lots to work through... As for everyone else, who knows! I'd love to see Alex happy with someone and I wonder if McSteamy and Mere's sister will hookup!?!?!?

Happy watching - only 26 days left to wait!

I will say this except a Halloween episode probably. I'm thinking this season may be better.

I love Grey's Anatomy! I always had to watch the next day on the computer b/c of work Thursday nights. I'm glad I've found others who love it too!

GREAT! I have so many people who look at me strangely when I'm distraught about episodes! And I mean upset for days......
you know, I just really haven't looked at Derek the same since he told Meredith that he could've gone out with that girl in the bar. Jerk. :snooty:

Glad you found and bumped the thread!!!

It's on my subscription list, so I never lose track of my Grey's. :goodvibes

I just watched the final 3 season 3 episodes on the DVD - you did all get the DVD, didn't you?? :happytv: - and when watched in sequence like that a MerDer breakup seems more likely. :sad1:

I'm ok with Burke being gone and expect some good Cristina scenes about that.

Also Callie being chief resident - wow. I don't expect Bailey is going to like that one bit. :snooty:

All in all, can't wait until 9 p.m.!

If you hear on the 11 o'clock news "woman smashing VCR in middle of road rampage" that will be me :lmao:

I swear I need to request Thursday nights off starting NOW! :dance3:
