The Official GLEE thread

Fox has released audio for three of the songs from the upcoming Rocky Horror episode:

As with several other cases, I cannot help but cringe when I listen to these incredibly talented singers singing songs that were made famous by arguably mediocre singers. (How many of us have Barry Bostwick albums in our collection? :)) From what I can hear, they really put the "originals" to shame.

Is that Emma with the lead in "Touch-a Touch-a Touch-a Touch Me"?

yes, that's her. It states that underneath - they may have added it after you had been on there.

There is also a comment that she had used that song when she auditioned for Glee, but who knows if it is true or not.

:)

I'm 28 (so not quite the demographic in question), but I love Rocky Horror. I saw it for the first time when I was 10 (which is, admittedly, a bit young) and have been a fan ever since. However, I didn't get to see it in a theater until I was in my 20s, because I live in a rural area. I had to make do with home DVD viewings with friends and *shudder* network showings at Halloween. I also know a couple of kids (through church, oddly enough) who are in Glee's target age (16 or so) and they "get" Rocky. I do agree that one should experience it in a theater, but in my area, live showings are just about dead. The closest cast is hours away, in NJ. Maybe Glee doing Rocky will get more younger people interested, which will hopefully lead to more live casts and theaters showing Rocky again. Angela Theater in Coaldale, PA - I'm looking at you in particular!!

Nebula you are definitely not the deomographic I was thinking about. My niece 29 as well as my God daughter 23 are huge Rocky Horror fans. But I am very happy to know that teenager/high school kids are loving Rocky Horror. That was really the generation I was thinking of. It's very enlightening that you liked it at such a young age and through the DVD route. I was afraid it had lost it's apeal.
BTW - My Niece is a big Janis fan too !

Thanks for sharing! I cain't wait for this episode.

Just wanted to add that John Stamos does not do Meatloaf justice.

Ok-so all you youngin's -find somebody who is in their late 50's and ask them what they remember about The Rocky Horror Picture Show;)

When those old folks were young and cool and single-it was the thing to do every single Saturday night in every town, city in America to go to a theater-not a mega plex-a single screen theater and watch this movie at midnight

It had a HUGE cult following. People attended dressed as the characters-people said the lines during the show

It made Susan sarandon a star!!:)

haha, that would be my dad. He said he doesn't know much about the movie itself but pretty much said what you did about it having a huge cult following and how people would go act it out.

I'm still going to watch but I probably will have no idea what's going on.

I just watched RHPS and I personally thought it was good but really weird. I also think that people we either love this next episode or hate it. In all honesty I think the younger people will love it and the older viewers will think differently because they were there from the beginning.

I'm 31 and I was part of a "shadow cast" while still in high school! I arguably had some of the most laid back and coolest parents ever! We were/are part of the local community theatre and my parents convinced the board to put on RHPS one year as a fundraiser. I managed to recruit a lot of my college age friends and a few I knew from the high school and we went through rehearsals, just like it was a play. By the time we opened we had it down perfectly. We had people lined up around the block trying to get in!

The theatre board asked us to do it for a few more years and recently they have begun to do the shows again(sadly, they won't listen to those of us with any experience.) It was a great time in my life and I have some amazing memories from those performances:cool1:

There is a preorder on itunes for the Glee Christmas album. I don't know how everyone else feels about that but personally I can't wait for it! LOL. I loved the single they released last year (Last Christmas) so I'll be anxious to hear some more Christmas music from the Glee cast.

How does everyone feel about the Glee GQ magazine photo shoot controversy?
http://www8.gmanews.tv/story/204024/did-glee-stars-go-too-far-in-steamy-gq-pics

I know the actors are older than the 15-16 year olds they portray, but I was a bit shocked by the photos I saw. I guess I just want the perfect Glee world to really exist. :)

I thought it was pure terrible and I expected more. I also don't think it has to do with a perfect little Glee world, it was trashy , and nothing but trash. I have also heard from various sources, ( don't know if true obviously) that there are some major attitudes running around on the show now. Seems all of this sudden fame is going to their heads. I think they better pull their heads down, I mean Glee is good, but no where near as good as the first season and I have a feeling it won't last that long.

But, I am really looking forward to tonight and the Rocky Horror Picture Show theme.

Already being discussed here:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2580966

My opinion is that this is much ado about nothing - people making a big deal because they want to have something to make a big deal about.

Nope pretty much trashy and there was no need for them to do it, I would rate it as something "B" list stars would do. I don't care if they did it, it just lowers my opinion of them, makes them look skanky.

I don't think it is for any board or parent review committee to denounce them or approve them, they are adults, but really do we need to see a pic of Lea Michelle sitting in her undies with her legs spread. Um No. Even my DH who is a die hard Gleek and lover of all things Rachel said she looked nasty and has had a change of heart towards her.

It was well within their rights to do it and it is within my rights to think SKANK.

I am super excited!!! My two favorite things, Glee and Christmas music!

In another thread I posted that tonight will be my first (and probably only) episode of Glee that I watch. I'm a HUGE Rocky Horror fan so I am looking forward to see the treatment that it gets on the show.

I will say, though, that my excitement is a bit tempered after hearing some of the songs they will be doing. For a show that has pushed the envelope recently (as numerous news outlets have been reporting), I cannot figure out why the lyrics have been so heavily edited in some of the songs. Touch-a Touch-a Touch-a Touch Me is so sanitized that I'm hoping that the true nature of the original musical isn't lost.

Of course, a lot of the viewers may not be fans of the RHPS and may not even notice. :confused3

Oh well, I'll watch, but a lot of my excitement has been taken out by some of the "spoilers" I've read and from hearing the songs.

I love GLEE and I love RHPS (I still have a framed picture of Dr Frankenfurter in my house, lol). I have not read any spoilers but I will be disappointed if they mess with this great cult classic.

I think that that is one way of looking at it. However, these folks both are insanely talented and now have the name-recognition commensurate with substantially higher-paid and more creatively challenged talent. They have, practically-speaking, far out-grown where they are now. In my job, I'd have gotten a big promotion and a big bonus already, if my employer had gleaned such success from my efforts. In their business, a normal way to get what I would have gotten - what they have earned - is to play the game, the way they're playing it, including up-and-leaving the show.

Yes, even though they're under contract: Remember, this may not be the industry you work in, so the standard and normal practices are probably different from what you're used to and perhaps different from what you like. It is okay to not be happy about how that industry works. It is not okay to fault people in that industry, people who can't change the industry single-handedly, from operating in accordance with the industry's standards and normal practices, even when you don't like them.

For at least three of the actors, it seems possible that they'd personally be better off leaving the show in a huff (unless they're offered an incredible bump-up), rather than staying with the show, and so the longer they stay with the show, the more you can chalk that up to altruistic attitude on their part, even if you personally wouldn't feel that that would be altruistic if it was you in their position.

I think they better pull their heads down, I mean Glee is good, but no where near as good as the first season and I have a feeling it won't last that long.
Which is a matter of major concern for the producers - not necessarily the lead actors. Think of John Travolta and George Clooney. Both left the television series they were featured in, even before those shows ended, and in doing so did much better for themselves in their own estimation (which is all that should matter to them).

But, I am really looking forward to tonight and the Rocky Horror Picture Show theme.
Me too.

You're surely entitled to your opinion. Different people have different perceptions regarding such things and different perspectives on this are not right or wrong objectively. They're just different.

However, your comment about "B" list stars is simply misinformed. Rihanna, Jessica Alba, Hayden Panettiere, and Charlize Theron are among the stars who have done GQ pictorials, and all four of them are much bigger stars than anyone associated with Glee.

I don't care if they did it, it just lowers my opinion of them, makes them look skanky.
The only one who has been lowered in my estimation is Dianna Agron. Her equivocations after-the-fact (on Twitter, no less - what a stupid thing to do) were immature and unprofessional. I wouldn't say that severely damaged her career with how she failed to stand behind her work on the pictorial, but I wouldn't object to someone else making that guess.

I don't think it is for any board or parent review committee to denounce them or approve them, they are adults,
I'm glad we can agree on something! :)

but really do we need to see a pic of Lea Michelle sitting in her undies with her legs spread. Um No.
Then why do you purchase GQ? :confused3

Patient: "Doctor doctor it hurts when I do this."
Doctor: "Then don't do that!"

Even my DH who is a die hard Gleek and lover of all things Rachel said she looked nasty and has had a change of heart towards her.
With respect, I think that's ridiculous. If you didn't realize what GQ was all about, then why did you look at the pictures? I think it is important to remember that we're talking about people in the entertainment industry. They aren't high school kids singing together after school. They are professionals working in an industry. Judging them by criteria other than the criteria that industry sets forth is like condemning a Hindu for not going to synagogue on Saturday morning. Don't get me wrong: There is nothing wrong with making a decision about your own subscription to the entertainment industry, but if you don't like the entertainment industry then avoid it. Problem solved.

It was well within their rights to do it and it is within my rights to think SKANK.
No one can deprive you of the right to think anything you'd like. Surely. However, by expressing it here, what we have to infer is that your standards simply are different from that of the entertainment industry, today. And that's perfectly okay.

I was actually very pleased overall with their take. I am a Gleek, but Rocky Horror was a huge part of my life for years. I still recited the lines during the show tonight. I was torn about the sanitized lines. The show pushes the envelope but it is in an 8 pm time slot, which forces it to be more cautious. I wish they aired this at 9 and did the songs right.

I do plan to buy the soundtrack, to go along with my Rocky Horror one.

One word . . .

Super!

::yes::

I got my dad to watch tonight's episode. He LOVES RH.
We're still laughing over the line,
"I guess I'm the guy in the wheel chair, right?"
"I was hoping you'd say that."

This was the first time I ever watched Glee, just watched it for Rocky Horror. I didnt like the sanitized lines but I guess really what can you do at an 8pm slot? :confused3
