The Official GLEE thread

It wasn't my favorite episode but it wasn't that bad. I guess I couldn't really appreciate it though because like I said last week, I know nothing about RHPS.

Favorite sanitized line:

I'm just a sweet transvestite
From sensational Transylvania

I guess if they changed "transvestite" the whole thing wouldn't have made sense, but "sensational" Transylvania??

I thought i heard her sing transexual transylvania??? Now i have to watch it again... LOL

Ok That was weird... why say transvestite but not say transexual???

Even though I like mercedes voice... I did not enjoy her as franknfurter...

I have to say that was an awesome episode. I think that they did RHPS pretty good justice with having to tone it down. I know when I was in high school, they wouldn't ever even entertained the idea of doing Rocky Horror (a couple of friends and I did a snippet of "Sweet Transvestite" in our drama class and even then our teacher was uncomfortable but she allowed it). Mercedes was amazing as Frankie, and John Stamos....to quote Uncle Jesse, "Have mercy!"

I loved tonights episode! I've never seen Rocky Horror before so I watched them movie and then saturday I went to a live preformance of it. Loved it! I really didnt like Mercedes as Frank. I just dont like Mercedes in general.
I can't believe we have to wait another 2 weeks for a new episode. And I believe Darren Criss will be on it!

The closed captions said "Sin-sational".

Uh, imagine trying to explain each to a five year old....

I find the Emma/Will story line to be tedious. And Emma through the whole episode was so out of character. And yeah...it's inappropriate for High Schooler's to do RHPS. I don't know, I wasn't thrilled with the episode, but then again, I haven't really been crazy about any of them this season.

Oh! And the whole Finn "I'm fat" story line? Gag me. I'm sure guys struggle with it as much as girls, but the dude has defined abs, I can't really get in on that. Totally forced and not believable.

I have to say I enjoyed the episode for the most part. They didn't ruin RHPS for me, and I hope it introduces a whole new generation to its greatness. I will say, though, that I probably won't be back in 2 weeks for another episode.

I loved the Bostwick/Meatloaf cameos, and I liked how they fit the Magenta/Columbia lines into the Touch-A, Touch-A, Touch Me scene.

Turning Sweet Transvestite into a Lady Marmalade clone was a BIG mistake, though. I cringed my way through the whole number.

Kudos to them, though, for trying to tackle something that is loved (actually the object of obsession!) for a lot of people out there. You never know how those type of fans will react.

I think that that is one way of looking at it. However, these folks both are insanely talented and now have the name-recognition commensurate with substantially higher-paid and more creatively challenged talent. They have, practically-speaking, far out-grown where they are now. In my job, I'd have gotten a big promotion and a big bonus already, if my employer had gleaned such success from my efforts. In their business, a normal way to get what I would have gotten - what they have earned - is to play the game, the way they're playing it, including up-and-leaving the show.

Yes, even though they're under contract: Remember, this may not be the industry you work in, so the standard and normal practices are probably different from what you're used to and perhaps different from what you like. It is okay to not be happy about how that industry works. It is not okay to fault people in that industry, people who can't change the industry single-handedly, from operating in accordance with the industry's standards and normal practices, even when you don't like them.

For at least three of the actors, it seems possible that they'd personally be better off leaving the show in a huff (unless they're offered an incredible bump-up), rather than staying with the show, and so the longer they stay with the show, the more you can chalk that up to altruistic attitude on their part, even if you personally wouldn't feel that that would be altruistic if it was you in their position.

Which is a matter of major concern for the producers - not necessarily the lead actors. Think of John Travolta and George Clooney. Both left the television series they were featured in, even before those shows ended, and in doing so did much better for themselves in their own estimation (which is all that should matter to them).

Me too.

You're surely entitled to your opinion. Different people have different perceptions regarding such things and different perspectives on this are not right or wrong objectively. They're just different.

However, your comment about "B" list stars is simply misinformed. Rihanna, Jessica Alba, Hayden Panettiere, and Charlize Theron are among the stars who have done GQ pictorials, and all four of them are much bigger stars than anyone associated with Glee.

The only one who has been lowered in my estimation is Dianna Agron. Her equivocations after-the-fact (on Twitter, no less - what a stupid thing to do) were immature and unprofessional. I wouldn't say that severely damaged her career with how she failed to stand behind her work on the pictorial, but I wouldn't object to someone else making that guess.

I'm glad we can agree on something! :)

Then why do you purchase GQ? :confused3

Patient: "Doctor doctor it hurts when I do this."
Doctor: "Then don't do that!"

With respect, I think that's ridiculous. If you didn't realize what GQ was all about, then why did you look at the pictures? I think it is important to remember that we're talking about people in the entertainment industry. They aren't high school kids singing together after school. They are professionals working in an industry. Judging them by criteria other than the criteria that industry sets forth is like condemning a Hindu for not going to synagogue on Saturday morning. Don't get me wrong: There is nothing wrong with making a decision about your own subscription to the entertainment industry, but if you don't like the entertainment industry then avoid it. Problem solved.

No one can deprive you of the right to think anything you'd like. Surely. However, by expressing it here, what we have to infer is that your standards simply are different from that of the entertainment industry, today. And that's perfectly okay.

Ok, lets see. GH, hubby purchased, I didn't. B list stars, sorry but Charlize Theron is the only one you mentioned that I consider a real star. George Clooney and John Travolta, very talented, George, never heard an ugly word about him and John, DH is an air traffic controller and has spoken to him many times and is none to be one of the nicest guys out there, so no attitude from them, I don't see the correlation, I am not talking about moving on and doing bigger and better things, everyone should, I am talking about attitude here, Diva is the word that was used on several occasions. And yep it is for the producers to worry about, because if the attitude gets to big and they become a problem then no one will want to work with them. When they get staying power like John and George, then I will compare them. I think they are very talented, but hopefully their heads won't get in the way of their career.

Also, as far as the skin thing, IMHO trashy. And yes , I think God every day that my standards are so different from the entertainment industry, I mean really they all seem so well adjusted don't they?

Not to argue with you, but FWIW, when Matthew Morrison was on Broadway he was thought to be nice. Actors are much more accessible on Broadway and I remember when "Glee" premiered, many people in the theater community said it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

As for Lea Michele, I'm sure she'll have a nice career remaking Barbra Streisand musicals, probably "Funny Girl."

I saw Jane Lynch on a talk show, saying just the opposite, that they are dealing with the fame very well, and are all still very grounded and level headed. She said they are doing much better with it than she would have at their age.

I never met any of these people personally, so I really can't comment on whether or not they are "divas."

I've met celebrities here and there in NYC, and for the most part, they've been gracious. The only one I would call a diva is Star Jones. And "Diva" is too nice a word to describe her.

I'm both a Glee and Rocky Horror fan, and overall, I thought they did a good job.

I did break out in a huge grin when I saw Barry Bostwick and Meat Loaf in their cameos. ;)

I was sort of hoping to see Susan Sarandon and Tim Curry, but alas.

I think it is very tricky to pull off something that has such a huge cult following such as RHPS, and still remain true to the basic Glee storylines. For the most part, I think they did it. As for the "sanitized" lyrics, I'm OK with them. Remember, the original movie was rated "R", so some of it probably wouldn't fly in the 8 pm "family" time slot. I do think seeing Mercedes as Frank-N-Furter was a bit odd. But seeing Matthew Morrison shirtless totally made up for that!!!! :thumbsup2

The ending was very good - having them do it for themselves, and emphasizing that Rocky Horror really for people who were outcasts, people on the fringes who were searching for a place to belong, and how that is the case with the kids in the McKinley High Glee Club. And taking the wind out of Sue's sail by cancelling opening night was brilliant!

Oh, I understand that what I am saying isn't a proven fact Yet either way. I also remember a post written by someone here saying that they met a lot of the cast on a tour probably about a year back and talking about how nice everyone was. From what I have "heard" this has been very recent and the fame in now going to their heads. Again, this is what I have heard. I hope it isn't true, and even if it is, probably not for all of them. I love the show and yes I think Lea Michele would do very well remaking Bab's musicals. Those are movies that I would actually pay to see. I think she channels Barbara. lol

I hope you are right, I hate for these kids,( and yes to me they are kids,) to get attitudes, it doesn't do anyone any good. Hopefully they are just nasty rumors. Man, I love Jane, she is so funny, Sue is one part that I would love to play if I were an actress, How fun to get paid to be all mean and nasty, sort of get it out of your system. lol

Hi everyone, I am a new Glee fan. I tuned in because I am such a HUGE RHPS fan and I think they did pretty good considering. OMG the teacher of the Glee club is HOT HOT HOT. He can be my Rocky any day! They all sounded great, with the exception of the girl as Frank n Furter. SHe has a lovely voice, but just not as as the sweet transvestite. LOL

If you go back to page 38 of this thread, you will find some eye candy in posts 558 and 559. ;)

On another note, it is good to see that Puck is getting out of juvie and returning in 2 weeks.

Does anyone know the story behind this? Did Mark Saling have some other committment that conflicted with Glee?

Even though I am not a huge fan of Rocky Horror, I thought last night was good. Although any night Matthew Morrisson is shirtless is good with me. I loved getting to hear Uncle Jesse, I mean John Stamos sing.

I too thought that unlike other tribute episodes, there was an actual story.

I believe he just released an album a couple days ago and is promoting it.:)
