The Official DIS Oscars LIVE Watch Party Thread! The Afterparty continues. . .

Also interesting. On the Dutch HBO max Facebook channel, they use King Richard to promote it.

I am not sure if this is wise or not ;)
The remarks under the post are hilarious. And they are not exactly about HBO or King Richard.

I must say, this has to be the longest an Oscars thread has ever stayed active after the show ended LOL.

I'm thinking of changing the part of the title that says "Tonight" to "The Afterparty continues. . ."
:lmao:

There's still supposed to be a couple weeks before the Academy makes a decision on what to do about Will. You know we will all want to weigh in.
:hyper2:
And people keep coming up with new juicy details. popcorn::

Thank goodness we don't have to pay for the thread room to keep going after the show. :teeth:

From the TMZ article:
"We're told Will was aware there was talk about asking him to leave the theater. During one of the commercial breaks, we're told Oscars producer Will Packer walked up to Will and said, "We do not want you to leave" ... this according to our sources.

Will Packer walked up to Will Smith just after 8 PM, around 35 minutes after the slap. That's when he told Will he could stay, according to our sources. Will won the Best Actor Award around 5 minutes later."

The conflicting accounts continue. . .

ABC will have an exclusive interview with producer Will Packer tomorrow. They showed a small teaser and said very clearly, "Will Packer says he did not have any direct contact with Will Smith that evening."

We may never know who is lying in all this mess.

As much as people are saying "Good for Chris Rock, his shows are sold out now." He also has had to pay for beefed up security to make sure no one copycat comes up to slap him. So, monetarily, it's probably a wash. He's from Brooklyn. He was able to walk the streets of Brooklyn but can't wander around Boston or wherever anymore without security. :sad2:

i'm wondering what impact this event will have on productions of all types and their insurance premiums. there was already talk of what the financial impact resulting from the death on the set of 'rust' would have on the industry but with this happening? not only could will smith become prohibitively expensive for a production to insure (if not outright uninsurable) it could cause a ripple effect and impact what were previously considered 'low risk' productions as well as what individual performers have to pay for self insurance. i hope this doesn't create a larger financial barrier for the smaller/no so deep pocketed indie film productions to face.

There has been so much controversy and negativity surrounding the show. I'm not sure how the Oscars survive. They are already a shadow of what they once were.

The Smiths didn't like the Oscars and wanted to affect a change. They likely have gotten their wish but not in way they desired.

It's an award ceremony that is also broadcast on TV. Even if it's not broadcast live, I highly doubt it ends (it existed before the TV broadcast). But despite what happened, people are going to tune in next year just to see what happens.

How much of an impact “the slap” will have depends on how it’s handled. So far…very poorly. They also need the films to rise to the occasion. Yes we’ve had “unprecedented” events but they were sliding prior to the pandemic. Many no longer care to tune in. Sad time for arts and entertainment

Here is the exclusive interview of the Oscars executive producer, Will Packer, by GMA host TJ Holmes this morning.

It's in 2 segments. This first one is Will Packer explaining the behind the scenes moments with Chris Rock. How the LAPD went up to Chris and wanted to speak to him. They were ready to arrest Smith if Chris wanted that. (Whoopi Goldberg, a previous Oscar host, the other day said the LAPD are always already there on site for these shows.)

Note how Packer said he did not speak directly to Will Smith that night. Yet TMZ said they have 3 separate sources who were sitting nearby, (and corroborate each other) by saying they saw Packer go up to Smith and tell him he could stay.

If you'd prefer to read it, or to copy & paste quotes, that segment is also here: https://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Culture/oscars-producer-packer-opens-happened

This second clip is from Will Packer's perspective of why he thinks the audience stood up when Will won his award, and how he was hoping Will Smith could make things better by apologizing to Chris during his acceptance speech.

If they didn't ask him to leave, the Academy looks bad. If they asked him to leave and he refused, Will looks bad.

We are in PR spin territory now.

Both the Academy and Will Smith look bad. No need to choose. It’s not about “asking” someone to leave.
1. Smith assaulted Rock
2. Academy awarded Smith with little statue within minutes of witnessing said assault.

So TMZ says Packer is lying. Chris Rock says Packer is lying. Why would would Will Packer lie? One simple search on IMDB shows that Will Packer produced the horribly unfunny movie Girls Trip starring... wait for it... Jada Pinkett Smith. He's probably buds with the Smiths and his interviews are full of holes because of it.Shame on him for making the situation worse by lying.

Chris Rock says he never spoke to Packer ...whether or not Smith should stay or go. The Academy can't keep their stories straight. Not a good look at all.

Yes, this is turning into quite a soap opera. People might want to get munchies for this PR drama unfolding. popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn::

Let's see if TMZ can "un-Packer" this drama. ;) :duck:

TMZ paints a very different story from what exec producer Will Packer said this morning, making it seem like it was all on Chris Rock, who didn't want Will Smith thrown out of the theatre. Chris' people told TMZ that is all a lie.

"The producer of the Oscars is now saying it was Chris Rock who did not want Will Smith removed from the Dolby Theater after the slap, but according to a well-placed source with direct knowledge ... that's just not true.
Will Packer appeared on "Good Morning America" Friday and gave his blow-by-blow of the evening. He said after the slap he talked to Chris and said the LAPD was present and wanted to know if Chris wanted Will arrested, but Chris made it clear he did not. No one is disputing that happened.
Here's what IS in dispute ... Packer said it was Chris who said he did not want Will removed from the Dolby theater. Sources connected to Chris tell TMZ ... that was NEVER said. As one source put it, "Chris told Packer 'I'm not pressing charges. All I want to do is leave.' He was never asked if he wanted Will removed. This is the Academy covering itself."
[Then] An Academy source tells TMZ, "Will Packer is not speaking on behalf of the Academy."
Packer's statement more than intimates it was Chris' decision to keep Will in the theater, and our sources simply call that a lie.
TMZ broke the story ... 3 well-placed sources who were present at the Oscars told TMZ ... the Academy never asked Will to leave and Will never refused to leave. The sources say the Academy discussed booting Will but never reached agreement, and 5 minutes before the Best Actor was revealed, Packer went up to Will -- who knew they were considering giving him the boot -- and told him he could stay. "
