The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

I would have them RSVP and do goodie bags, but I can't stand for kids to feel left out! Dollar Tree stuff for the pool won't be too expensive. I would get some extra, since some people won't RSVP, and some might bring extras (one of my sisters always shows up with extra people!)

sounds great!! We're trying 50's prime time for the first time next month. I can't believe we have never been there. I know why...it's cuz I'm chicken that they will pick on me!!! :rotfl:

When would you recommend that we get professional pictures taken of the baby? Thinking of trying out the one in the Babies R Us cause they should be able to do a good job as they photograph alot of babies.

Also do you have any tips for his first photo session.
Any positions that you loved your baby in?
Any thing you didn't think of before you had the pictures taken you can tell me about?

Thanks! :goodvibes

I'm so about pictures!! I'm addicted to pictures. For babies first year I do, 2 weeks (newborn session) 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. Plus I squeeze christmas pictures and pictures w/live bunnies & chics in there. The christmas and spring ones have all of my kids in them. The older kids are once a year. My oldest I stopped doing his own sessions after he turned 5, I still get individual portraits of him when we go for christmas pictures.

My babies still dribble.. Heck, I wish my 8yo would get all his food in his mouth!:lmao: Its totally normal, no need to worry about it!:thumbsup2

Totally normal!! I still swear CJ gets more on himself then in his belly!

Yesterday Alex became a steam roller! :rotfl: He started rolling from back to belly. And then again and again and again! This morning he was on the floor as I was packing up for work and he ended up on the other side of the living room. We're in trouble! :teeth:

Too cute!

Jake went in for his 6month well visit yesterday. He has had a fever for a week and a half, but his ears look good and his CBC came back good (good listen in the chest, too)-- so they think its from the teeth (fever of 100 or so).

Normally he has no issues with shots. We've never had issues. I decided to go ahead and give Jake the two flu shots yesterday too, so he had a total of 4 shots. 3 in one leg, one in another, and the rotovirus drink. His area just below his belly button (between both legs where they gave the shot) is swollen and he was up ALL NIGHT (also had a fever). I gave tylenol and it didnt help. Does anyone else have issues with shots, or ever had this happen?

His bottom to teeth are both completely through the gum now- so doc said he COULD be cutting another tooth (hes already cut 2 in a week and a half)... but i think its the shots.

ANy advice?

Poor little dude. No help, but tylenol and hugs. Motrin if he can take it...

My biggest issue was that I don't fit into those dang brand name clothes that all my classmates wore. Abercrombie, Aeropostale, Hollister, etc. my girls were too big. :lmao: I was falling out of a DD by 7th grade. :rolleyes1 (sorry if that is TMI, but we have shared much more than that before!)
Patsy< i'm so w/you on this one! I hate that all I can wear now (and then) are tshirt type shirts. No button up shirts for me. It get bored w/the same old stuff. No vnecks either...unless I have a tank under it, don't need to draw anymore attention to the area :)

For baby's first professioanl pictures should I plan on having poses in mind or will the photographer have alot of good ideas?

Where should I go to get the pictures taken?
I went to our Babies R Us yesturday to schedule an appointment and the portrait studio there closed in January.

If you have any favorite pictures that were taken of your little one let me see so I can tell the photographer to try and get that shot for our little one.

Any props you recommend that we bring with us?

Are you on facebook?? If so, pm me your name...I don't think we're friends. I have a bunch from my photographer. It can give you some ideas. My photographer has tons of different props that she uses.

With the hand holding thing, you might want to get your nails done. And make sure you don't have a watch on or anything. I had my watch on, but luckily thought to take it off, the photographer didn't mention it.

Lily's next shoot will be full of tutus and fairy wings. I just bought some stuff.
Yes...make sure to have you nails done and jewerly cleaned if you're going to be in the pictures.

Totally normal for breastfed babies.

I would LOVE to get a Maclaren. I have been eyeballing the twin techno.. They are really sturdy, and high handles.. But the seats are kind of shallow for my beasts. I have had a ton of strollers.. We had a combi with my dd, It was a decent price, folded up small, tall enough.. But Kaylee broke it at Disneyland when she was two. It wasnt sturdy enough, and it just got kind of warped and the wheels broke. For me, I need an umbrella stroller that holds a really high weight. The Maclaren fits the bill. I was looking at the City Mini.. but it doesnt fold up very small. Stroller issues really stress me out! :lmao:

I kind of wish the babies were still in the carriers... The babies are heavy, and wiggly!! They are a pain in the butt getting in and out of the house, car, grocery store.. Whatever.. when I am alone. It was much easier when they were in the carriers. I have started using my sling to get them around when I have to carry both of them. Helps out TONS!!

Love, love love my maclaren. I got mine off of craigslist in september. I got a twin techno w/accessory pads for $95. There is a stain on one of the seats and that's why she got the pads, no biggie. She wanted $100, but when I got there, we noticed some dirt that I was able to just clean off, so they dropped the price a little. Keep your eyes on craigslist. It took 3 different people that I was talking to until I got one. First, decided not to sell, 2nd realized that the lap straps slid, so she could get more use out of decided not to sell, 3rd took a trip to NH and got it!

Alright, I just bought a stroller on ebay! I've not done any research on these things, just totally took the word of mouth from you all and got a Maclaren. :rotfl:
Kelli, which one do you have??

I got a new 2010 Maclaren Twin Triumph. It said it was used as a floor model. It was $120... which I'm thinking is pretty good. Plus, free shipping.

I was really wanting to check out the consignment sales for a stroller but it sounds like this is as good of a deal as I might have hoped to find there... and it's not a chance! So hopefully I like it when it gets here. :)

Great stroller!!!! Great price!

She loves it...wants to do it all the time. I am frankly sick of reading to her! :scared1:

Don't stress! MANY babies are like Lucas.
1. Let him chew on board books. Just handling them is really good for little ones. You want him to be comfortable with them.
2. Fill a big basket with lots of board books. He will use them like toys--pulling them in and out, playing with the basket, etc, but he will start opening the books and looking at the pages.
3. Try reading on the floor while he's playing with the books, even if he's ignoring you. I do this a lot in storytime. The kids will be playing with the books/basket and I'll open one up next to them and read it and do number 4.
4. Be super enthusiastic. "Wow! Lucas, look at the kitty! He has soft fur!"
5. Pick books with bright colors and flaps and textures. Lily's favorites are the DK Peekaboo series. The flaps are nice and thick so she won't rip them and they have touch and feel parts too.
DK Peekaboo board books

Is he into mirrors at all? Lily is really into it right now, so her favorite book is this one:
Baby Faces Peekaboo
It has a mirror at the end. She likes to make out with herself...lots of tongue! :thumbsup2:rotfl2:

Just remember to keep it positive and enthusiastic. And don't force or push it. I would try it at least once a day though. I find she's more receptive to certain things at certain times. Maybe he isn't a read to me at night baby yet. Maybe try it in the morning or before a nap. Or do the basket trick when he's playing. HTH :thumbsup2

CJ just ate up the new book I got for him. I got my older 2 godiva chocolate for valentines day and got cj a book...cj decided he wanted chocolate, so he tried eating his book.

I think the "high end" store we have would be Buy Buy Baby. It carries a TON of stuff that is not at BRU and some brands I haven't ever heard of. I went there today to look around (you can use your BB&B coupons there too don't forget!) and they had 2 floor model Aria twin 60/40 for $219. We tried out a $800 double jogger just for fun. It was nice but very bulky and heavy.

Our biggest resale in the area is tomorrow. I can't wait! I went to a small sale last weekend and this lady behind me had the cutest folding cart. She said she got it at TJMaxx last year. I thought for sure I would never be able to find one but they had just gotten them in that morning. I got a cute brown and blue one for $19!

How is buy buy baby?? do they have all ages (toddlers ) like BRU does?? We have one opening soon by us, but there are no other ones inthe area, so I have no clue what to expect.

:scared1: OH MY GOD! :scared1:

I just fell down a few stairs with the baby. He seems ok. Cried a bit but is awake/alert and acting fine, sucking on passy. My arm I was holding him in hit the stair before his head bumped it. Bit scared cause his head went back a bit quick but his neck and head seems ok. DH isn't worried but I'm frazzled. :guilty: DH said that some of his brothers where dropped more then others meaning he was dropped a flight of stairs when he was young by his older sister.

scary!! I hope you both are ok!
You guys have had a rough weekend!
Hope everyone is feeling better soon about everything.

We went to Sams Club yesterday to wander around. Ended up running into my parents there.. Lucas got to try soooo many samples! :rotfl: He wasn't wild about some of it. He got basil pasta, mashed potatoes, pot roast, blueberries, corned beef and swiss cheese. Very small amounts but he was loving trying all the different foods! He started to figure out that if someone gave us a little cup it meant food and got a little irritated if it was something we wouldn't let him try.

Hope everyone has a good Sunday!!!
hmmm...good idea for checking out what they like and don't like. :rotfl:

Awww, Stacy. Do the spots still seem to not be bugging him?

Sarah!
Someone thinks that the people I ordered from on EBay ARE the Maclaren people clearing out inventory for the new line. Apparently, the people are in the same city in CT so it could really be them I guess.
Anyway, my point... I know you were looking at a few options but I thought i'd post the store I bought from so you can keep an eye on it:
http://stores.ebay.com/Baby-Products-Store__W0QQ_sidZ657501637QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em14?_pgn=2

UPS tracking says I'll get mine Tuesday so I'll let you know if it seems like it's coming straight from Maclaren!

I think his spots on his back bug him. I notice them swelled up a lot! just imagine having hives all over your body that won't go away. they are about scratched misquito bite size...

Birthday Party Questions...

I realize that he's not going to have a CLUE that this is his party and it's not really a big deal at all, except it kinda is. My mom and I are going to try to use this party to reconnect with family we drifted from when my grandparents died (my uncle, his kids, etc.)..

So anyway.. this is my spring break, so I was planning on going ahead and buying the invitations so I could utilize my time (and lack of school work!) to get the things written and addressed this week. Not mailing them out for awhile, though. (The semester goes until May, then we're going on vacation, so I'd like to get stuff done before things get too crazy for me!)

Most of my cousins have kids- all different ages. Should I put on there for them to RSVP so I can get together goodie bags for their kids? Or just skip the goodie bags? I know traditionally bday parties have them but I'm sorta lost on what to do, since Lucas won't even know what is going on.

I wouldn't mind doing it.. small stuff, probably some small toys they can use in the pool that day and some candy but I didn't know if it would be weird to put it on the invitation.

I know several of you have older kids so thought you might be able to offer some direction! TIA!!

If you have little ones coming I would do some type of bag or even make choc lollipops for them of something. We're having CJ's 1st birthday at my sons first communion party. We are having it at a hotel function hall and the communion party is a little more than I wanted to spend, so we decided to combine. Everyone that is coming to one would have been coming to the other party, so I don't feel bad. I actually feel better...3 kids, 3 birthdays, religious events (baptim, communion, etc) now I'm only taking up 1 spring weekend vs 2. Plus we are driving to WDW on cj's first bday adn will be awy the 2 weekends after. The first one we are back is Ty's communion.

oh my...I said I would go thru :lmao: off to have somemore soda bread! corned beef in crockpot for dinner..YUMMY!!!

They carry all sorts of brands that I've never heard of and then some things you can find at Walmart or Target. But they will also take competitors coupons, BB Baby coupons, and BB&B coupons (their coupons are void on diapers though... of course!). I think they carry into the toddler sizes. Lots of Carters clothes and cutesy boutique clothes.

Hey all -- I've been quiet. Thursday night we made the call to help our dog on his way. My DH took the day off on Friday to be with me. My mom came over to atch the babes & we took Casey for his last trip to the vet's office.:sad1: It still feels weird not to have him around. It was time, but it's still sad and generally sux.

On a happier note, DH added about a dozen new pics of the kids to his flickr photostream, if anyone wants to check 'em out.....
http://www.flickr.com/photos/jtor1138/sets/72157620740723641/

I'm so sorry Valerie. I know it was hard. Growing up, none of our dogs would just die-there was always suffering and the vet in the end.

I think I've caught Patsy's insomnia. I came to bed at 8:30. I'm still not feeling well, dh thought I had fever but I didn't pull out the thermometer. I refuse to take any more meds right now! So I came on to bed with Katie, and put dd10 on the air mattress in our bedroom. She is going on a "camping" trip with mil in her camper for the next 2 nights, so she asked to stay in my room tonight. When she comes home Wed, ds12 is going on his camping trip with mil! She doesn't see them much anymore so asked for some one on one time with them. I think they will enjoy it. Anyway, I've been here since 8:30, and it is now 1:04!!!! Katie has slept, woke up to nurse, and is sleeping again. Dd10 is sound asleep. And I can't go to sleep!

Robin, I'm sorry. That really stinks. I actually slept last night so I appreciate you taking my insomnia for a night.

DH overslept... usually gets up at 6:45, got up at 8:04. Forgot to fix his clock. Hehe.. He was grumbling that he'd have to tell his boss he's the dumbutt that forgot about the time change.

Lucas is still sound asleep!! He's usually up about 8:15, so this is long even without the time change. I'm waiting on him, which feels very strange... I'm sticking to the saying to 'never wake a sleeping baby'... if the boy wants to sleep, he can sleep!! Our errands will be there later and DH won't be getting home until late.... :rotfl:
I wish I were still asleep!!!

Danny'sMom, I love the pictures! I went through all of them, not sure if I'd seen them before. Dylan already looks like your older DS. :)

*eta*
I think we're skipping errands today. Lucas is still sleeping and I just got sick like 6 times... and now all those blood vessels in my face ruptured again or whatever and I look like I'm dying. :rotfl: Same thing happened with Lucas after I got sick with gallbladder attacks. Hopefully it goes away soon! I don't want to go out like this. :(

I hope you feel better! I slept from around 2 until 8. I was planning to get up earlier. I took Katie to daycare at 8:30, and came home to clean! I got the kitchen, dining, and living room before mil came, thank goodness! She just left with dd10, so I'm taking a very short break. My new class starts today, so I need to log in and see what I'll have to do this week.

How far is Columbus for you?

C-bus is about 2-2.5 hours depending on where. So not too bad, but I just have absolutely no time at all right now. I'd rather go to Columbus than Canton for sure.

CLE is definitely in the middle of nowhere. We prefer to fly out of Akron. :thumbsup2

He started walking this week. He was doing a side step, but now has it down going forward. He'll do 10-15 steps then fall on his butt and claps.

I can't believe he is turning 1 in a month! which also means we leave for disney in a month.

off to put him to bed, I'll read up and post soon....:cloud9:

Too cute! I can't wait to hear all about the trip!

Sarah!

Cool! That was the seller I had saved in my ebay account!

BUT we went out to Berg's and I am soooo in love with the Baby Jogger!! :lovestruc:lovestruc OMG it is sooo cool! It looks like there is no way it would fold small, but all you do is pull on this little strap and it collapses. It's sooo awesome! So now I have to find a deal on it!

Lily slept in today too. I was worried until I remembered th time change.

Okay, I went upstairs and crawled into bed. Lucas slept until 11:30... got up, gave him his bottle, crawled back into bed... I must've fallen asleep again but I just woke up and Lucas is sleeping again!!! Sound asleep, cuddled up with his blankie!

He might be getting more teeth. He did this when the last teeth came in, he slept constantly! I took some pictures of him sleeping haha. If he isn't up soon, I'll go get him but I hate to wake him.

Sarah- Columbus is that far for me, too. I go through Athens (where OU is) to avoid the interstates so it takes a little longer but the drive isn't so annoying. I love shopping in Columbus!! Unfortunately my friend needs to be home by 5:30 next Friday so I won't be able to shop much. She better believe she is getting up at the butt crack of dawn so we can be at these consignment sales at opening!! :rotfl:

I'm going to go back to hit buy, buy, baby and BRU with another friend. Plus, Chipotle or Skyline. Oh I am so craving them both. :rotfl:

Katie just doesn't sleep like that! She usually goes down between 9 and 10, is up at least once if not more during the night (last night she woke up at 12, then 6, then 8). And she only takes one nap during the day at daycare. At home, she'll only sleep if I'm laying next to her (like now). I just picked her up at 4, and she wants to nurse and nap (she is good at doing them at the same time) when we get home. She is only getting one bottle a day at daycare now! They say she isn't interested in an afternoon bottle. I have two bottle I pumped today in the fridge, and they have one bottle in the fridge at daycare. I'm going to have to get some more freezer bags. Or toss some ot it:scared1:!

I got most of the house cleaned. OMG it was bad! I couldn't even see my floor in my bedroom. And I have washed and put up so many loads of clothes! I cleaned out some of Katie's winter clothes and bagged them up to give to a pregnant friend. I have bags of bigger clothes in my closet. That is my chore for tomorrow. I'm going to clean out my closet, and the closet in the living room that is full of my Disney trip stuff!

I'm not happy right now! I'm sick now-have been sick all day. Vomiting, chills, aches, feel like crap. I told dh to go ahead and go hunting, that we'd be fine. He was gone most of the day, but the older kids (who are better) have helped so much. I got very sick around 2, and starting vomiting uncontrollably. I texted dh to come home, and he did for a little while. He told me to take ds12's phenergan for the vomiting. I told him no, I was bfing, etc. He laughed at me, told me to do it, and said she had plenty of milk in the fridge, which she does. I told him if I vomited again I would, he left. Whe I got sick again, I caved and took the meds, and texted him again to come home. He did, but now is mad that he has baby duty! She won't take the bottle, is screaming, but what am I supposed to do????? Now he wants me to nurse her, but I'm scared to! Phenergan is listed as class C, which means not enough research has been done!

I'm sure you've resolved this by now, but I usually call my midwife or an LC when I have to take med's and they are very helpful. I've been told often that it's usually better to BF her (it is good to find out what the halflife of the med is, so you know when it leaves your body).

Hope the blood vessels clear up ASAP! And I'd just like to note that I am jealous of your little man's sleeping habits!

Isabel had a 5 month well visit today. . . she's 25 inches tall (75th percentile) and 13 lbs 8 ounces (25th Percentile). . . I guess that's on the BF babies chart, because on the chart I have it says 10th percentile weight and 50th height.

Have any of you delayed vaccine's? I don't want to start a debate, but we have not given her any yet and are going to go slowly on them (a-la Dr. Sear's schedule), our Ped is very supportive, especially since I am BFing, I was just wondering if any of you are delaying what you are doing.

He slept a loooong time.

He's very obviously not feeling good. He's got red eyes and a runny nose. Keeps sneezing. Poor baby. :(
He doesn't usually sit in his swing anymore, except to drink his bottle, and he's been in there for hours today just watching the mobile go around/watching the TV. He has no energy. :( I put him on the floor with his favorite toy and he played 40 minutes before he tried to crawl anywhere.. usually he'd be on the move in seconds!

Took his temp, 99.7.... so I gave him some Tylenol and he's back in his swing.

I might skip errands tomorrow, too, if he isn't feeling better. Though I really want to go out!

Adi, nope.. we didn't delay anything. He got everything right on the government recommended time frame. I never looked into doing it any other way, though.

*eta*
He just fell asleep in his swing. That is a LOT of sleep! I figure it's okay, isn't it? Sleeping this much? No reason to wake him up? It kinda worries me but I can see him and hear him snoring so I know he is okay.
He obviously doesn't feel good at all!! :(

I'm sorry he is sick-hope he is better tomorrow!

Adi, in my area access to after-hour care is pretty much zero!

And no, we don't delay. We do everything on schedule. None of my kids have ever had a problem with vaccines.

Awwww poor little guy. In the absence of any major fever or signs of distress, I would assume he's OK, but doing what he needs to do. But you know any major fever, breathing difficulty, vomitting etc & off to the doctor with you. Hope you both feel better tomorrow & can break free of the house.

Piecey- do you take the temp in rectally or somewhere else?

Jake hasnt been feeling good either. I think its another tooth.

Adi- We, also, get shots as the pediatricians recommend. Jake hasnt had any problems other than fussiness and a little swelling this last time (which we elected to add 2 flu shots).

Patsy--Sounds like he is sick, I would just let him sleep as long as his temp doesn't get too high.
I bought the Mac Quest from the same seller as you Patsy. Its a 2008, but the only difference between it and the newer models is a smaller canapy. I have the Ray Shade, so I'm not worried there. It was $100 cheaper than the Baby Jogger and I guess Macs seem to last longer than BJs. And I agree that it must actually be Maclaren. I got the 8% cash back with BING too. So a $249 stroller for $129!

We did the normal course of vaccines. I did a LOT of research about it. Thought about delaying, but in the end choose to just go the normal way.

Nope, ear. The thought of a rectal temp freaks me out. I wouldn't want someone to shove something up my bum, so I don't do it to him. :lmao:

It is fairly accurate. We took him to the ER a few months back (maybe about 5 months old) when his temp was 101.2 on our thermometer and his feet were turning blue. We freaked, so DH told me to take him. It was 102, taken rectally, in the ER so we agreed to keep our thermometer. We know, now, not to freak out unless it gets higher.

Though, how high is too high for 9 months old? I know the ER told me anyone under 6 months they don't worry under 103.

Come to think of it we never got a bill for that trip to the ER. Hmmm.... maybe since we didn't see a Dr. I might need to call them tomorrow.

Adi- We, also, get shots as the pediatricians recommend. Jake hasnt had any problems other than fussiness and a little swelling this last time (which we elected to add 2 flu shots).

Well, our pediatrician prefer's the Dr. Sears schedule, but follows the AAP's schedule unless the parents bring it up to him that they want to delay. I do appreciate that he is not pushy about vaccine's - he just always asks if we are doing any vaccine's at that visit, and that is all.

Thanks! I was just concerned and wanted to do more research b/c of the large increase in the number of vaccine's kids get since the 80's and 90's. She'll likely get them all, though delayed by 6 months, and I may skip flu shots and chicken pox, though I am not dead set either way. I also will probably take Dr. Sears' suggestion to do the MMR as separate shots instead of the 3-in-1 combo.

Thanks to everyone else that responded too, I'm a little surprised I'm the only one, on another forum I am on I'm not :)

Can you skip the chicken pox? My older kids had to have proof of that one for school.

I don't think I had a virus. I've been too braindead to think lately, but my left breast has been tender for days. Really tender. Since Katie has been sick she has nursed a lot, even for her;), so I just thought maybe she had bruised it. Today, I noticed a bright red spot under the nipple, and it hit me. Mastitis. I looked it up, and I had all the symptoms. Flu like, aches, fever, chills, vomiting, etc. And I have a knot where the red spot is. I was still really achy yesterday, but cleaned all day today. Other than the pain in the infected area, I haven't had any other problems. The sites I went to said antibiotics were needed, but I don't want to go to the dr (or take more meds) if I can help it! I texted a NP (dh's cousin) and hope she can give me some advice.
