The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

How many oz. are all the babies taking?

Jake is 4wks old today and takes about 4oz. At night I have tried giving him 4 but he never eats it all before going to sleep so I only offer 3oz now. Does this sound like a lot?

I worry about overfeeding. I know you probably can't but Jake doesn't wait 3-4 hrs between each feeding. Many times he wants to take formula every 2 hrs. Im afraid ill stretch his stomach and get him used to eating a lot, which might cause problems down the road. AHH-- the worries.

What kind of formula is everyone using? I have some checks that I get in the mail that i dont use. I use Enfamil :)

I don't think that is too much at all.

I can't say for sure but I think Lucas was at 6oz by then.

I THINK this is our formula usage...
Staley, MinnieFan4Ever, TiggerStac and I use Similac.
Disney Ron varies between Similac/Enfamil
Mendy, Caitty13 vary from Enfamil/Good Start
Veronica uses Enfamil.

I try to keep it straight because I mail out checks when I get Enfamil/Goodstart...

Patsy, sorry you are missing your brother. You are good keeping track of all our formula use. Patsy you should keep that list in the first post as a reference if we have checks to share.

Emma is not picky, she thrives on anything. I generally use Enfamil first, but depending on coupons and freebies. She eats whatever I can get my hands on at a bargain. I have used Similac, Good Start, Walgreens and Target formulas. My DSil got new a whole shopping bag bag of Enfamil RTF bottles. She works in a NICU. I love when she drops it off.

Maggie, Emma went up to 4oz pretty quickly. She is 14 weeks now and taking 6 oz. feedings, total of about 30 oz a day. They say to try to keep them at no more than 32oz a day.

I have my rice cereal in the pantry ready to break out in a couple of weeks.
I changed the adjustments in my highchair so she is ready to go when I decide it is time. She is sleeping much better than my DS did so I am not pushing it just yet like I did with him.

I finally booked Emma's Baptism for Nov. 1. Now I need to plan some type of party. I hate having such a huge family $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. :headache:

*** Tip *** make sure you guys ask at each of your pedi appointments for any samples or checks they have for formula. Most Dr. offices get shipments weekly and that is what they are there for to be distributed. My Dr. office is calling me this week when her shipment comes in of Enfamil. She is going to put some aside for me. They usually give me 4 sm size cans. Worth asking for in my opinion.

I wish!

Lucas' Pediatrician has a sample table where you check out with a sign that says "ONE per family per visit"

In the past the checkout lady has given me more than one (she once gave me ALL of the boxes of single-serve packets they had!) but I follow the orders on the sign and only take one.

They've also got a whole table full of coupons/pamphlets, etc. at the checkout.
Last time I got 2 $2/Childrens Tylenol and 4 $2/Similac.

They had a toooon of those Enfamil rebates but I didn't think to grab any for you guys! That was stupid. He won't go back until December 18th.

I can definitely put that in the first post. I just looked and the last time I updated was in the hospital... lol. I might just take that list down and put up a formula list.
So long as I have the brands right..

I'm impressed Patsy! :thumbsup2

me too!!!

Of course...I'm waiting for a call from pedi to talk about his spit up. It's been really bad again and zantac doesn't seem to be working. I'm wondering about using that RS (OR AS enfamil) formula or some other one. I'm not convinced to change to soy, cuz he's always been a spitter even when he was on soy in the hospital, we tried that when he was having feeding issues.

Anyone else use another kind for spit up..and when i say spit up..he's projectile, it's almost like the whole thing comes back up. But he's not fussy when this happens, he just spits up and continues on w/what he's doing.

Older DS had reflux.... zantac won't stop the spit up (or projectile puking) what it will do is make it so that it doesn't burn or hurt so much. So that the baby does not form any negative associations w/ eating. Even a very small baby can figure out if it hurts every time I eat, I just won't eat -- which, of course is a whole 'nother baaaad situation.

Zantac is also a weight based dose, and is easily outgrown. I always knew when my son's zantac dose needed to be adjusted because I would start to smell the stomache acid on his breath.

I have a lot of those Enfamil Rebate forms if anyone wants any. Just PM me your address.

Sorry I can't help on the spit up, Tiggerstac. Neither of mine have ever had a problem at all. I have a friend whose baby has acid reflux and she projectile vomits as well. Her pedi gave her medication for it. Don't know if its Zantac or not. My friend also discovered that her small amount of caffeine she drinks a day is having an effect on her baby. Once she cut out the caffeine, the baby has been a whole lot better.

Hey! That was my 1000th post! What do I get? What do I get? :yay::yay::yay: I would just be happy with a tag but I guess I'm not witty enough!

Well I heard from Pedi, as I was pulling into the office parking lot to bring the 2 year old for his flu shots...it was great timing.

Anyways we are trying Alimentum w/him and honestly, he has had 2 eat oz feedings w/no spit up at all!! That's huge and I didn't expect a difference so quickly. Any time he drank, he would immediately spit up and spit up again and again up to an hour later.

So, I've heard from several people (in pedi's office as I was looking at the sample can he gave me to give him a bottle) and a few friends that I chatted w/online that it could be covered by my insurance...and I so hope it is, as it's $27 for a 16 oz can!! OUCH, that's more expensive then his premie formula was. I'm going to call pedi and see if I can get themto call in rx tomorrow. If it wasn't the weekedn I'd wait a day or 2, but I have 3 8oz cans of samples and the way this kid eats, it says 1 can will make 8 bottles. he'll prob go thru 1 a day or a little more. Need to bring one to daycare, so I prob wont have a full can come monday for daycare and having to run around monday after work...nah I'll get it now. Hopefully ins will cover it easily w/out having needing anything other than rx from md. we'll see......

But I"m already so happy. and I did see that babiesrus carries it in RTF cans that I can grab a pack of for the plane to florida!

My apartment manager uses that... her insurance does cover it, and it costs her $3 for a case of 10.

I think I forgot to mention here, this week the twins got their synagis (RSV) shots & got weighed. My little babies that started out at 3 lbs 8 oz a little over 3 months ago are pretty big now! Katie weighed in at 9 lbs 12 oz & Dylan (the moose!) tipped the scales at 11 lbs 4 oz. So Dylan's a whole pound & half bigger than Katie, which I just can't figure out. Up until the last week or so, they had been taking the same amt of milk. Now I'll sometimes top up Dylan w/ an occassional extra 2 oz of formula after his breasmilk bottle, but not even every feed. Whatever, they're both exactly the size should be, it just seems weird because I can compare them side by side.:goodvibes

DH decided to stay home today (and let me sleep in, wooohoo!) and when I got up he goes "I put him in his swing but he was fussy!" :rotfl:

I guess DH needs more time with Lucas... it's been awhile since Lucas slept 20 hours a day and his swing was where he wanted to be 24/7!

I'm glad the twins are doing so well!

I'm home today-Fall Break (one day). I felt so guilty taking Katie to daycare, but I am glad I did. She has been up playing since 4am!!!!! Usually, I get her up at 5 to nurse, but the one day we can sleep in, she wants to get up early:rolleyes:. Anyway, I've already been to the grocery store (all by myself:cool1:-you have to be a mother to understand that one!), and have all of her 3-6 months clothes boxed up. The older kids are cleaning out their closets, too. I have to dig out all the bigger clothes, and wash and sort them. I was just dumping everything bigger than 6 mos in the bottom of the pack n play, and had the bassinet on top, but she is wiggling so much now I need to remove the bassinet. I don't have a clue where I'm going to store the bigger clothes now!

I got groceries at Walmart this morning. Dd9 is going to be a fairy (Iridessa) for Halloween, and they've had some fairy hair pieces in the baby:confused3 section for months now. I didn't look at them, but was so tempted, and this morning they were down to 2 (a Tink and an Iridessa). I looked and they had them clearanced for $3. I got to the checkout counter, and the lady mentioned how cute they were. They rung up for $1 (Iridessa) and $.50 (Tink)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought we could just put them up for future trips, and do a little BBB in our rooms for free!princess:

They have some darling baby Disney costumes. I love the Tink ones. My sister has made Katie a Tink tutu for this Halloween. I'm going to check back the day after Halloween to see if they have any 12 mos Tinks clearanced, and get one for Katie for our March trip.

We got our cloth diapers yesterday!! I love them! I am using a service, and it is so nice.. makes it just as easy as using disposables. The guy dropped them off yesterday.. and I was kinda surprised at how many there were. I ordered 90 per week.. that is a LOT of diapers! Now I need to head out to buy some more diaper covers.

AWWW!! They are getting huge! It must be a boy thing.. Vinny is WAY bigger then Jazzy too. Wait until you can really start seeing how different they are.. personality-wise. It always blows my mind. Even though they are just siblings... no different then my other kiddos, it still seems crazy side by side.

Hey! That was my 1000th post! What do I get? What do I get? :yay::yay::yay: I would just be happy with a tag but I guess I'm not witty enough!

I'm still stuck with the tag I got in 2005. As you can see, it's a little behind the times now. The irony is that I'm over my Jimmy Fallon crush by several years now. I guess I'm not witty enough either, nor do I ever post any place but here anymore. Oh well.

I guess I should update too. Alexis had her 2 mo. check-up Tues. morning. She weighs 11 lbs. 3 oz. and is 23 inches long. She isn't really sleeping through the night yet, but has napped a lot this week thanks to her shots. I'm relieved because (sorry for the TMI) my Dr.'s appointment for my IUD was later that afternoon and we both took it easy for a few days. She is smiling and 'talking' to us, though she grunts more than she coos which I think is hilarious. I went ahead and packed up all her summer outifts and newborn-sized clothing, but she still fits into a few 0-3 mo. outfits which is good because I don't have a ton of 3-6 mos. clothes. (That's such a transitional size that I didn't want to buy too many.) The JBF consignment sale starts Monday, so I will see what's available for us then. The weather went from upper 70's to 80's here to lower 50's almost overnight, so a few more warm outfits would be good. Then again, it could be back in the 80's tomorrow. Such is life in Oklahoma. With our bad economy, I keep waiting for another Dust Bowl...;)

Oh their personalities are already readily apparent. Dylan is generally pretty laid back & easy going & Katie is such the little diva -- my older son calls her a drama queen. I guess princesses know exacty what they are right from the get-go.princess: She is, and will be a handful, I'm convinced.
