The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

Hi girls. It's Friday!!! I am waiting for my DH to come home so we can all go to the zoo. It is so pretty outside. :flower3: My parents are coming in this weekend, so that means I can sleep in for 2 days:banana: Gotta love grandparents.

Natalie had a yucky day yesterday. She had bad gas I think, not sure. She was fussy off and on all day and even cried when she pooped :sad1: Poor baby. She seems MUCH better today.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Big news...Jake slept IN HIS CRIB from 10 to 4 last night!! I am shocked but also hoping it wasn't just a fluke :rotfl: Usually he starts out the night in the crib but only stays for about 3 hours & then after his late night bottle he screams if I put him back in the crib so he sleeps the rest of the night with me. So this was a big deal for me! After his bottle at 4 he slept with me in bed until about 730. It was a good night! :thumbsup2

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Outstanding!! I LOVE sleep. Jasmine STTN last night again. I dont know what got into her, but I love it!

Anyone cloth diaper? I am looking into changing to a diaper service.. Its only $90 a month or so... For both babies.

I'm thinking about it once I run out of all my shower gift diapers. I've got about three packages left.

When you guys put the babies to bed (before they could soothe themselves) did you wait until they were fully asleep? Like boneless asleep?

Everytime we lay Lily down she wakes right up.

Anyway...Lily's 2 month checkup went great. She's 24 1/4 inches (95th percentile--crazy sincce we are super short! lol) and 13 pounds (85th percentile). She's wearing 6 month carters clothes.

She did great with her shots too.

Only one more week then back to work.

DH and I are vaguely looking at WDW the week before christmas since he's off of school, but we'd have to drive and we'd miss Lily's first chirstmas at home...think everyone would wait to celebrate til the 27? :p

Sarah, your post made me chuckle about Lily's check-up. I thought my girl was growing fast. She is really long, my gosh!:cloud9:

I tend to put Emma down only when she is out cold. I know it is not a good habit but it works right now.

Who is using a pacifier and how old are you little one? When are you planning to stop them?

DS just spit his out at about two months and never wanted it again. Right now Emma seems to love hers. I did switch from the Soothie to Avent.
Let me say if anyone using paifiers does not have a clip for it...get one. They work great with all the germs around, you do not have to worry about it dropping.

So we've had 2 bad nights, getting tag teamed by the twins, in a row. When one slept the other was awake. It's a special sort of torture reserved for twin parents....

Plus Friday my DH had to take an unscheduled day off & spent the day in the ER w/ his mother. She has been sick & since she didn't actually rest & get better, it migrated into a sinus infection. Plus she walks around borderline dehydrated most of the time, so when she gets sick she gets really dehydrated & feels just awful. She typically drinks tea & coffee all day -- not exactly the best for hydration.

DH is doing worse than I am. I guess mommy-hormones help me tolerate really broken & poor quality sleep a lot better than him.

I've got a question for formula feeding moms. When mixing formula what sort of water do you use? Tap? Bottled? Boiled & cooled?

I'm still pumping for the twins, but only 3x a day, and while that covers most of their needs so far (getting 30-40 oz at those 3 pumps) I do supplement with either frozen milk (that will run out eventually) or occassional formula bottles. I had had 4 qts of samples of rtf formula that I've just gotten through. I bought 2 more, but obviously powdered formula would be economical, I'm just unsure about this whole mixing business, since I've never done it before. Anyone wanna give me the formula mixing primer?

My goal is to keep them at least partially breastmilk fed, through this first cold & flu season -- we'll see how far I make it. I'm pretty stubborn though, I exclusively pumped for my older son for almost 2 years.

With Vinny I wait until he is completely knocked out. Then I lay him in his bed. Jasmine can just be put in her crib awake and goes to sleep.

For mine I use really hot tap water.. I make up all our formula for the day the night before. I make about 10 or 12 8 oz bottles up and stick it in the fridge for the next day.

I've read that it's best to put them in their crib awake. I forget where, but I know I read it.
Lucas has always gone to sleep whether we put him in there already out or still awake.

I use Nursery Water... the lady said we could use tap, since we live in the city, but since Lucas had some feeding issues with blood in his stool and all of that we strictly use Nursery Water. It's a couple more dollars a week but it gives me peace of mind that I know what I'm giving him.
(We had a water scare around here a few years back, though. A local plant was leaking something called C8 in the water and it wasn't pretty.)

I know Lucas doesn't get perfectly measured water/formula and that it's always a little different and it doesn't seem to bother him.

We use the 'Nursery' water too.

Valerie, sorry you had a bad couple of days. Hang in there.

Thanks all, it's interesting to hear what everyone else does. Maybe I'll pick up some nursery water to at least try the powdered formula samples that I've got on hand. I may stick w/ rtf if I can maintain my milk where it is long term, as I'm using the qt in about the 3 days that it's good for (once opened.) But if I'm using a lot more formula, well as long as both babes take regular formula OK, I'd have to switch at some point.

I drink tap water filtered in a Brita pitcher, mainly for taste as we have pretty "hard" water. I suppose I could use that for formula mixing too.

On the formula, I use the RTF at home. At daycare and when we're out and about, CJ gets his formula w/bottled room temp water.

I got in the habit of using the RTF, when I had tons of coupons and could get $2.00 off each bottle, plus they had a huge sale on the stuff and it was cheaper with the premie brand CJ was on. Now I think it's more habit. Don't know if it's me or not, but he sesms to not spit up as much, either on the premade.

Anyone use the RS or AR (I think) brand of formula, it's the rice starch? I don't want to just change CJ and he goes to pedi next week. he's still spitting up a ton even w/zantac. I'm sure his weight is going up, he loves to eat. That seems to be the best time to keep his bottle in...after he has his food...

As for the sleeping thing... We got in the BAD habit of rocking Allison to sleep until she was out cold. I have been slowly breaking this... It is weird, she will go to sleep fine during the day, but at night, she wants to be held. In the past 2 weeks, she has probably put herself to sleep 3-4 times.

I would recommend getting her to learn as soon as possible, I feel like I waited too long! Oh the things I'll try to do different next time!

ON the sleeping bit. CJ actually likes going in his crib and pack n play. When I can tell he's tired, we put him in and he snuggles himself to sleep.

If he falls asleep in our arms, we try and move him to pack n play...works most time.

I'm the last person to ask about getting them to sleep! Katie nurses to sleep, in my bed, then I ease up away from her! She is really really spoiled.

I fed her some cereal for the 1st time yesterday. She took about 3 bites, and let me know she was not happy! I tried again today, but one bite was all I could get her to take. So I guess she plans to be EBF for awhile longer!!!!:rotfl:

I nurse Lilliana to sleep in my bed at night too. She's usally out for the night after that, I am thinking of trying to put her in her crib but it's so much easier if she wakes up to have her right next to me. She still nurses at for her bedtime and morning feedings.

She does hoave formula during the day. We have well water that is filtered so I mix that with the powder.

Does the nursery water have flouride in it?

Yes, it does.

We do. I love the stuff. The twins are on Similac RS, and it works really well for us.
