The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

Hope you feel better soon Patsy!

So guess what??...DH agreed!! We are going to WDW in August AND December!!!! AAAAAAHHHHHH!! I'm insane! We're getting APs too, so we can use them next August too!

So Lily's first tooth is starting to poke through! I can just feel where it's broken through the skin. She's been a little angel all weekend, so I was really surprised when I noticed it yesterday.

How long does it take to actually come up?

I am soooo jealous! I told Tom I might fly down with Lucas and spend one night to get his first haircut in MK. Lucas would be free, I have enough frequent flier miles for a free roundtrip... and I paid to make our last tickets no expiring or I thought about doing the Give a Day, Get a Day program. I might head that way in December, too! :rotfl:

Lucas' popped up overnight. He slept a ton and then WHAM! the next day he had two teeth.

Ugh!! Im sorry for all the sickies! I really think the babies had some sort of bug last week... Kaylee seems to have the same thing going on. We went to the ocean over the weekend and she started puking in the car. She had a barf bag.. common for her because she gets car sick.. She started puking, and I told her she needed to put her head int he bag. She kept trying to shove it farther over the back of her head! :lmao: Poor thing. She seems great today though.

So we took the kids to the ocean, and had a great time! It was so much fun. Vinny kept eating the sand though... My older kids thought it was the coolest thing driving on the beach. In Washington the ocean beaches are part of the state highway system.. so you can drive on them. Its not the same kind of sand that other places have.. Its very hard packed, wet sand. Great for sand castles! Not great for crawly, walky babies that keep trying to wander off and get run over by people speeding downt he beach though! We stayed in a great hotel! The babies slept through the night!!! I dont think they have ever stayed in a hotel, so it was a nice test run for WDW.

We also drove through Forks.. If anyone is a twilight fan?? You know Forks!:lmao: I have never read the books.. We saw the first movie, but it irritated both my husband and I. Teen angst gives me a headache. Anyways.. Its been on the news that they have had a little economic boom because of the books, and movies.. Doing Twilight tours and such. I was expecting them to have more stuff.. They had a couple of stores, a few signs.. But the have a great pizza place!

It was a nice weekend.. I wish we could live out at the ocean. Its cheap to buy a house, but what would we do for work?? Not a whole lot. You could totally buy a house with a little property for less then $200,000. Not here!!

Oh my goodness, I have a friend that would KILL to go to Forks! :rotfl:
That sounds like a fun trip! Except for the fear of vehicles! It'd be so neat to drive on the beach, though!!

$200,000?!?! I know I live in West Virginia but MAN! We paid $70k for our house. Brand new roof, windows and siding. I really do live in cheap America!! :scared1:

I also totally forgot to ask how much Lucas weighed and the percentiles. I was so ready to get back home. I'm so exhausted. I drove through KFC and my lunch will be a large mashed potato.
I did catch his length, 29"...
Some student PA came in and examined him then we saw the actual pediatrician. His appointment was with an NP so I'm not sure why I got the pediatrician... maybe because of the student PA? Shuffling patients so she could see a variety of ages I guess.

Pediatrician told me he doesn't think his bum issues will clear up. He called Lucas "Mr. Sensitive Skin" and told me based off my complexion I was the same way and he inherited from me. :headache: We got another script for another steroid cream to try to clear him up. Hopefully this one works better than the others.

.... I also absolutely HATE the checkout lady at that office. If I didn't love the pedi so much, I'd switch just because of this lady. They didn't have Lucas' soy formula (all the samples sit on a table by the back door, with a sign that says "1 per family, please." so I grabbed Nutramigen for Maggie. I've gotten it before, right after Lucas was first born because the pedi said that'd be the next step if the soy didn't fix things. So I grabbed it as a "just in case" and no one said anything to me then so I figured it was no big deal.
Well today she had an issue with it. :confused3 She goes "Is that what he uses?" I said no, I grabbed it for a friend and she gave me a lecture about how if my friend wasn't a patient there I was breaking the rules and she'd "let it go this time".. but if it WERE Lucas' formula she'd of given all of it to me because she "had extra" :confused3:confused3:confused3
Uh, hello? I didn't break the rules! It says 1 per family! And these samples are given to you guys for FREE! And if you have extra WHY DO YOU CARE?
She then goes "That stuff is about $30 a can you know" ... HENCE WHY I AM GETTING SOME FOR MY FRIEND!:confused:

I just don't see the big deal.
And I hate that getting a lecture from a cranky old lady makes me feel like I am 5 years old again.
I've never liked her.. DH rarely goes with me and he dislikes her as much as I do. She gave me a ton of crap that my insurance card was wrong because it didn't list co-pays on it and said "Lab Card".. uh, aren't all insurance cards different? Sorry that mine offends you. :headache:

DANG. $70,000?? Not here. We looked into buying a new construction house out in the boonies a few years back.. It was WAY out. About an hour and a half from my husbands work and it was $250,000 for a small three bedroom, two bath. The closer you get to where he works it gets WAY more expensive. I think now you can buy an older house around where I am for $180,000. But it would need a lot of work.

That lady sounds like a crab. I would have told her yes.. It IS what my kid uses. AND?? Then I would have had Jasmine give her the stink eye. Ooooohh... Crabby old thing.

Sarah, I have read different things. I think all babies are different.

Jakes took a week to completely come through the skin. He had another just behind it, which is breaking through right now. So 1 and a half weeks, and here we are with 2 teeth. The first is just through the gum completely and now rising up... (not completely up by far). The new tooth just beside it is still has one side that hasnt cleared the gum yet. He's been extremely fussy- running a fever of 100 (although thats not a fever to a lot of pediatricians)... and unfortunately cant have Motrin until we get the "okay" tomorrow at his well visit. It has disrupted sleep for a week and a half and he hasnt felt well. Tylenol has done NOTHING for him and neither has teething tablets. I admit, I gave him Tylenol on Saturday bc I couldn't take it anymore (few days shy of 6mos).... but im ready for the "okay" so he can get some relief. This has lasted far longer than I ever expected. Some kids have a difficult time and others dont.

HOLY CRAP Patsy! What a...! Thanks so much for the thought, that was incredibly sweet of you. I hate that it caused you grief from the old lady at the check out! Tell her to bite the big one! Don't ever get a lecture on my account... lol!!

I've been quiet, not because my nights have gotten any better. They're still pretty darn awful. No, I just have been reluctant to type out the news.

Weather was gorgeous this past weekend. But the only time I got out was when DH & I took the dog to the vet, who gave us the worst possible news. Looks like cancer. Very aggressive cancer. Plus with his age "treatment" options are limited. Basically pain management. It looks like bone cancer, which is very painful. So we do pain meds, and keep him as comfortable as we can for as long as we can. Very soon we will have to say good bye. My poor dog.

He's an ex-racing greyhound. You can see a pic and his lineage here: http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?z=c9J__C&d=ensign+blue&sex=&color=&birthyear=&birthland=

:hug:Im so sorry.

I am so sorry Valerie. We had to say goodbye to my cat 2 years ago in January. It was the hardest thing. I have photos of her all over the house and we planted her in the front yard and a tree just beside her. We were building this house at the time and I wanted her to be here with us (might sound corny but I had her for 16yrs- so shes certainly a part of the family). I always tell DH that if we ever move- the tree is going with us!

I hope things look up for you soon!

I have never liked that lady so I'm just :mad:... like it MATTERS?! What a witch. Grumble, grumble, grumble. I told Tom if she irritates me again I'm calling the office and telling them I'm only going to remain a patient if I can leave another way and NOT have to deal with that lady. I can make appointments by phone (not with her!) and if we have a sick visit I will call in and pre-pay our $10 co-pay to avoid her!

She is a crabby old thing. I had to wait on her for 10 minutes after his 6 month because she was trying to explain to someone where the Christmas tree lot was. :sad2: Then she told them her lunch order. All the while holding up a finger for me to wait.
The receptionists that you sign in with aren't the nicest ladies in the world, either. Yet all the nurses, the NPs and the pedi himself are wonderful! :lovestruc

Yep, our house was built in 1924. We have all the original oak woodwork, hardwood floors in all the rooms, a pocket door... about 1,820 sq. foot. 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a walk in closet in the upstairs hallway for storage. We have a full basement, too.. but it scares me down there. :rotfl:
We've done a lot to it... put about $15k in it now I think. Still a steal for $70k. It needed some TLC but it's not bad. Our yard is almost double the size of both our neighbors and it's fully fenced... so I'm pretty happy. Except I live in West Virginia which doesn't make DH or I very happy at all. Trade offs I guess, huh? :upsidedow
$250k would buy you a massive house here in the ritzy neighborhood.

Thanks Ladies. If I weren't so bone weary tired from days of little sleep, I think I'd be more upset. He really is a good dog. It is upsetting that he'll just progressively be in more and more pain, until we need to end it for him. He deserves better than that.

hmmmm......I haven't gotten that email! I've changed my reservations so many times (just changed our last 2 nights from POR to CR with a 40% off pin last night:banana:) but I may need to check into this one!

You read my mind....we moved to the boonies in MA to be able to get a new house w/some land. If I put my house where I grew up it would easiler be 600-700k w/out the 2 acres of land...we're talking tiny .33 acre lot of land. Ours was just under 200k almost 10 years ago.

ok...just out of curiosity pasty, how much are some staple items you get for your house..milk, bread, eggs, etc?? I know I live in NE and it's crazy, but I'm wondering how crazy :rotfl:

hugs!! losing a pet can be very hard.

what i read didn't sound like just one child. I think it was mousesavers, it was talking about deal and had 2 A, 2C. it said that you don't save anything on room as the 2c normally stay free w/2a, but you'd save w/tix and dining. of course it said QSDP.

I didn't get the email, but just finished reading about it on the Disney Visa site. It reads like 2 kids would be free with 2 adults. I'm going to call today or tomorrow (how late are they open?). I ran some numbers on line, and it looks like it would be a little cheaper than my $500 gift card-and I wouldn't have to use all $500 at Disney (like that is hard:)).

I hope our sick members are better, and I'm so sorry about your dog Valerie. Losing a pet is so hard.

Patsy, the lady at your dr's office sounds horrible!

Grades are posted-I got an A!!!!! My practicum is pass/fail, so one more grade (statistics) to go!

I just called. They don't really know what they are doing yet! First the guy told me it was only good for QSDP, and when I asked if it could be upgraded and pay the difference he had to go and check. You can upgrade, but I'm still $200 better off with my $500 giftcard. Oh well-at least I won't have to worry about any expenses popping up! The giftcard will cover tips, oop meals and snacks for our last 2 days (room only at CR), and pay for our 2nd night at CR (only had to pay one night down). It would be a good deal for anyone staying at a value, and only getting the $300 giftcard.

ok...just out of curiosity pasty, how much are some staple items you get for your house..milk, bread, eggs, etc?? I know I live in NE and it's crazy, but I'm wondering how crazy :rotfl:

Milk, in my city is $2.99/gallon. I can get it for $2.59 across the river, though. :lmao: (Ohio) I only know that because every time I go to the bank I see the sign in the CVS window that says "MILK: $2.59!"

Eggs, usually about $1.29 if I buy store brand. I haven't actually bought any for awhile (WIC) but unless they were on sale I'd say that is about the average.

I'm picky about bread, I only buy a certain type. It's about $1.69 but store brand bread is .88c/loaf.
I can get ground beef on sale for ~$1.60/lb, chicken breasts/tenders about $1.75/lb and pork about $1.88/lb.

It's really affordable to live here. I read in American Baby that the average family spends $119/week on groceries. I don't even spend that a MONTH! Of course, I coupon too... but even if I didn't I don't think I would spend that much.

Sorry for the bad news, Valerie. Hang in there.

Patsy, I hope you feel better. I remember being sick with my second and it was awful. I tried to keep DS away but he got it too. Thank goodness DH wasn't on shift for a few nights.

That is inexpensive for housing. I wish! We can get a gallon of milk for $1.99 and I refuse to pay more than that. I will only buy one gallon if it's not on sale then wait for it to fall and buy 4 gallons. Aldi is usually only $1.99, a few times it's been $1.79.

DS is feeling much better. You wouldn't have known he was feeling bad with the way he's acting. I can't keep him sitting down anymore. He just wants to crawl up the kitchen stairs, crawl up to the fireplace, or scale the bookcase! I woke up this morning to him yelling MAMAMAMAMA and there he was bouncing in his crib holding onto the side.

We are looking into Easter egg hunts in our area. We signed up for breakfast with the bunny (can't wait to see how they do with the bunny up close this time) and looking at an indoor waterpark egg hunt. You get to search for eggs and swim after. DS has been wanting to swim but it's a little hard if the pool is frozen solid. ;)

Oh gosh, I pay $5.15 a gallon for milk at the commissary!! LOL...it's $8 out in town! OJ is $3 on base, about $5-8 out in town for a 1/2 gallon. Eggs are $2 for the cheap kind, that's on base too.

A regular ranch home runs about $750K, but no matter where you are, you're striking distance to the ocean LOL!

YAY!!!! Lucas has been making all the appropriate noises to string "dada dada" together (yeah I know it's just him making noises, not saying the actual word yet) for awhile now but late last night he finally did the noises to say "mama" !!

I'm a dork, but I'm excited by it. :) Not to wait until he actually knows what he is babbling about means something...

...does anyone else have issues with LO wanting to be under the desk? If I'm on the computer, Lucas keeps trying to crawl under the desk. Then he gets really mad because it's too tight to turn around and get back out. It's a bit strange...

oh! We were also told at the pedi yesterday (with the mean lady drama I totally forgot!) to slowly introduce cow's milk product but NOT to switch to a cow's milk formula. So I'm trying to figure out how to slowly introduce it. Except.. I'm not sure. :rotfl:
I was thinking mashed potatoes... but thats about all I've got on the idea front. Anyone have a suggestion??
