The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

I was wondering when you think it would be ok to wear perfume around the baby. I have been staying away from perfumed soaps, fabric softeners, etc.

Valerie--I'm so sorry!

oh! We were also told at the pedi yesterday (with the mean lady drama I totally forgot!) to slowly introduce cow's milk product but NOT to switch to a cow's milk formula. So I'm trying to figure out how to slowly introduce it. Except.. I'm not sure. :rotfl:
I was thinking mashed potatoes... but thats about all I've got on the idea front. Anyone have a suggestion??

I think they mean cheese and yogurt--stuff made from milk that doesn't have a high milk content. I know you're supposed to do that at 8 mos.

Try a little and watch for a reaction.
I only used Dreft once and then went back to normal soap/fabric softener.

Every baby is different. Just introduce one thing at a time so if there is a reaction you'll know what caused it.

He said to start with stuff that has a little tiny bit and then work up to stuff with higher contents. I think cheese would have more than a tiny bit of cow's milk in it, wouldn't it? I'm not a scientific food maker or anything.. :rotfl: We didn't start when you're supposed to start because Lucas has bad reactions to cow's milk. So we waited until we got the official word from the pediatrician that it was okay to very slowly introduce it. I don't want him to stop eating again and start having blood in his diapers all over again. That was a nightmare!

Chanon! I know we talked about the sale for the Moms of Twins Club, but I found yet another one.
threebagsfull.info/Home.aspx

...why was that censored?! :rotfl: WTH? lol. Anyway. Replace the stars with 3 bags only spell out the number.
*eta* nevermind, it took the censor out when I deleted the www. ... strange message board censoring!!

YAY!!!! Lucas has been making all the appropriate noises to string "dada dada" together (yeah I know it's just him making noises, not saying the actual word yet) for awhile now but late last night he finally did the noises to say "mama" !!

I'm a dork, but I'm excited by it. :) Not to wait until he actually knows what he is babbling about means something...

...does anyone else have issues with LO wanting to be under the desk? If I'm on the computer, Lucas keeps trying to crawl under the desk. Then he gets really mad because it's too tight to turn around and get back out. It's a bit strange...

Amelia LOVES trying to be under the desk, I think it's the cords. I just keep moving her elsewhere, but she makes her way back over and eventually I have to get off the computer. Pesky babies!!

What about introducing yogurt? I've been giving Amelia yogurt (little bit) for a few weeks, she really likes it.

Oh I think in items like cheese and yogurt, the protiens are broken down more, making it easier to digest than actual cow's milk. I am lactose intollerant and have no issues with milk products such as cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc.

You took the words out of my mouth. :thumbsup2

Hm. I told the pedi I've been buying (and giving) him soy yogurt and he said that was good. I guess I could switch to regular and see how it goes, though. It's early in the week and we're about out of everything.. but I've got American cheese. I might give him a piece and see how he handles it.. since it's Tuesday, if we have issues I would think they'd pop up before the end of the week so I could get a call in to the pedi about it.

I'm just so worried he's going to start bleeding again. :( That sucked. He had like 6 x-rays of his belly and intestinal area and it sorta broke my heart every time he went.

Hmmm... let us see how he likes American cheese I guess.

Honestly, I'd skip the American cheese product, it's not even real cheese. Go for small bits of cheddar, etc.

You read my mind....we moved to the boonies in MA to be able to get a new house w/some land. If I put my house where I grew up it would easiler be 600-700k w/out the 2 acres of land...we're talking tiny .33 acre lot of land. Ours was just under 200k almost 10 years ago.

ok...just out of curiosity pasty, how much are some staple items you get for your house..milk, bread, eggs, etc?? I know I live in NE and it's crazy, but I'm wondering how crazy :rotfl:
For milk it is $4. for two gallons, is I buy them one at a time it is $2.39 per gallon. Eggs.. I think $1.99 for a dozen, and bread is $1.50 for store brand.. But I go to the Orowheat outlet, and get it for way cheaper!
Milk, in my city is $2.99/gallon. I can get it for $2.59 across the river, though. :lmao: (Ohio) I only know that because every time I go to the bank I see the sign in the CVS window that says "MILK: $2.59!"

Eggs, usually about $1.29 if I buy store brand. I haven't actually bought any for awhile (WIC) but unless they were on sale I'd say that is about the average.

I'm picky about bread, I only buy a certain type. It's about $1.69 but store brand bread is .88c/loaf.
I can get ground beef on sale for ~$1.60/lb, chicken breasts/tenders about $1.75/lb and pork about $1.88/lb.

It's really affordable to live here. I read in American Baby that the average family spends $119/week on groceries. I don't even spend that a MONTH! Of course, I coupon too... but even if I didn't I don't think I would spend that much.
Ground beef is $2.99 a pound, chicken is a lot more. I only buy it on sale. FOr a full grocery trip, I can easily spend $200. every 2 weeks.

My babies are always getting under things, on top of things.. Just inot everything!

I have been doing 2 oz of milk with 6 oz of formula.. Plus they get yogurt, and cheese.. They LOVE cottage cheese. For lunch I will give them some chopped lunch meat, turkey usually, cottage cheese, and some fruit. Or a handful of steamed frozen mixed veg. Breakfast is dry cereal, and yogurt.. Dinner is whatever we are eating. they get 3 8oz bottles. One when they wake up, right before nap, and again before bed.

Not that you asked what all we were eating, I just thought I would throw that out there!:lmao:

I'm editing because it was confusing before ( I think?). I don't buy the Kraft singles individually sliced processed American cheese food things. I've never been able to eat that stuff, it freaked my mom out so badly I've known my entire life it wasn't real cheese.
Kraft makes a "deluxe" American cheese, though, that IS 100% cheese. I think American is processed by definition- it started as a mix of colby and something else, but now I don't think it's made the same way.
Anyway- at the end of the day, the stuff I buy isn't junk. WIC paid for the last package and they only pay for 100% cheese so they wouldn't have paid for it if it weren't healthy enough.
I'm good giving it to Lucas but if you were referring to the processed cheese food American than I can understand the statement.
I still remember when I showed DH how it said "processed cheese food product" or something on the package. He doesn't touch it anymore either.

Hey, it gives me something to go off!
How strange that milk is the most expensive here (save Hawaii, but I think they win on EVERYTHING!) :rotfl:
I have some cottage cheese in the fridge I might try to give him in a few days. Want to wait to see how the cheese went down.

Thanks Patsy! I think I'll go to the March 25th one - my cousin lives in Canal Winchester and that'd make a great play date for us!

My friend and I are going to go, too!! Except we're going to go the 26th.
Columbus is about 2hours + from here so that'd make for a late nite by the time we got home if we tried to do the 25th.

Did you see to register for the New Moms presale for that night?

I've never been to Canal Winchester. The areas I am most familiar with are Easton(the airport) and Polaris. I've not ventured many other places so this will be new territory for me. I will be looking at lots of maps! :rotfl:

I was wondering when would be the best time to switch from a wide nipple to a regular nipple on the bottles?

I use both nipples. We have rotated between Dr. Brown's and playtex drop-ins since Lilliana has been using bottles. I EBF until about 2 months then part time until 5. She has used both types through out and I didn't notice much confusion.

I read on the budget board and slick deals about the Walgreen's diaper deal. They are changing packaging of there own brand. I got 5 packages at $2.19 each,40 diapers in each package. My store only had size 3 which is good cause that is what DD uses right now.

I officially just checked the dates. I work since it's actually a Thursday and Friday....maybe I'll call my cousin and just mail her a check. :rolleyes1

Ugh, what a non-restful night! E went down at 10, up at 12:30, up at 4, and up for the day at 5:50.

We've never changed bottle nipples Ariel.

I was ssoooo tired yesterday. Then it was time for bed, and I was wide awake. So annoying!

Have a great day everyone!

I don't think you need to change nipple styles if you don't want to. Find a bottle / nipple combo that works for you & go for it.

Last night was OK. Was still up, but not as bad as the last week. Maybe we're on an upswing. Dare I hope? So if I'm remembering correctly, last feeding & down to sleep around 9. I went to bed at 11. Katie got up for a bottle at 2:20. Up again for another bottle around 4:30 ish (?) And then Dylan got up to nurse around 5. And we were all up by 6:30-7 AM. So Dylan pretty well slept thru the night & Katie was not nearly so brutal.

My game plan is to try & get as much milk or formula into Katie in the evening as possible, which is tough. DH has a long commute & evenings have making, eating & cleaing up dinner, as well as homework for my older son. Plus Katie is very sort of indifferent about eating. I call her little miss half a bottle. She often takes half her bottle & takes a break & comes back to the other half later. Whereas overnight, while half asleep, she'll down the whole bottle & go back to bed. :confused3

When would you recommend that we get professional pictures taken of the baby? Thinking of trying out the one in the Babies R Us cause they should be able to do a good job as they photograph alot of babies.

Also do you have any tips for his first photo session.
Any positions that you loved your baby in?
Any thing you didn't think of before you had the pictures taken you can tell me about?

Thanks! :goodvibes
