The NEW WL FAQ (Part 5) Simbas and Tiggers and Humphreys OH MY!

I tried to do this earlier, but I guess it didn't work??

I am new to this board, but not really new to Disney, however, I am finally paying for the trips myself :earboy2: I have a few questions. We are heading down in about 37 days. We have 2 rooms at WL AP rate. I am interested in the concierge level, and if it is available I might want to "upgrade". Two questions, how much more is this? and should I do it now, or wait until check in for a "better deal"?
Thanks
Buzz's Girl

Minnie M3,
We just returned from a great trip to the WL (our first). We had a wonderful view of the fireworks from room 5012 (queen plus bunk beds), and I'm sure that any room on the fifth or sixth floor from 04 to maybe 30 (even numbers) would have the same view. good luck, and have a wonderful trip! :flower1:

 We have ressies's for WL in May. We have now gone ahead and bought AP's (that's good). Here is the thing. We will be returning in Dec 2005. I hear WL is beautiful that time of year. I was thinking of maybe changing our May ressie when the AP codes come out. Not to abandon the WL but to save it for the Dec. trip. What's your thoughts?

 :wave2: princess: princess:

Why not stay at the WL both trips??

You are correct- the WL is beautiful at Holiday time- we were there this past Dec (Dec 9-13).

The downside of an AP is that you are not guaranteed to get an AP rate. If the 'deal' on the hotel is what you hope to get with an AP- then you really need to be flexible in your choice of resorts- and dates. Over the past few months, a few WL lovers opted to explore other resorts because they were not able to get an AP rate at the WL- but got great rates other places.

I have an AP and had hoped to get a good AP rate for our Dec trip- but not luck. I think the magic of the Lodge at Holiday time is out. I could have had a great rate at the AK but I really wanted to be at the Lodge. Thank goodness it was value season so the rates weren't sky high.

Lucky you to have two trips to look forward to!! Happy planning!

So if I understand you correctly, Campinggal, I should try for WL AP rate for May. If I get it I will stay there. This way if I can't in Dec. I won't be dissappointed. We would be going Nov 30-Dec7 anyone know if AP rate was avail. this past Dec?

That sounds like a good plan! Lots of it just depends on what your 'resort' philosophy is- like do you like to just stay at the same place for your trips or do you like to try new places. I was totally set on staying at the WL for our Dec trip and planned that into my budget- if I got an AP rate, that would have just been a bonus.

I did hear of folks getting AP rates in Dec- but those reporting AP rates for the Lodge were far and fewer between. Even if you don't end up staying at the Lodge in Dec- plan to have dinner at one of the restaurants- Whispering Canyon Cafe is a hoot- lots of antics from the CMs and fun for all. Or for a 'finer and quieter' meal- Artist Point has high marks too. If you plan it on a MK day- you can easily take the boat from the MK to the WL.

Sigh...I need to start planning a return...

Are you willing to share your secret 6th floor location in case I don't get a Magic Kingdom view?

We have a Woods View reservation and we requested Non-Smoking, Non-Handicapped King bed and I don't know if that will mean we will be able to have a Magic Kingdom view or not. Any specific rooms I should request that would have a King bed? We leave on the 30th and I can't wait.

Thanks!

We leave next Sun. for the WL. Any suggestions on what to order at WCC for dinner? We will eat there the first night.
Tara

Buzz's girl- I have heard that upgrading to Cl (if available) is around $50 more than courtyard per night. We might try to upgrade at checking. Although I have heard that CL sells out fast. I'll post my experiences when we return. Everyone has told me to book the view/level that my heart was set on so you don't get dissapointed. So we booked courtyard. If we try for CL and get it great if not I am thrilled with the view we have. Good luck.

Just wondering.... I have been to WL two times, this time we are staying on the conc. level. Is it worth the upgrade to the honeymoon suite, or are those rooms smaller than the rest on the 7th floor? is there an outside view or balcony, or only a veiw of the lobby???

Thank you.......

 Hi, when I visited Concierge last May the Manager at Wilderness Lodge gave us a mini-tour of the honeymoon suites, they aren't that much bigger then a standard room in size, but the set-up is much nicer they have the King-size bed so it seems like much more room. The bathrooms with the tubs are beautiful. So yes ::yes:: I think they are worth the extra charge. Have even tried booking them twice but no luck.

All four suites are off the Lobby, I would request the North side of the Lodge so you can enjoy the view of the Magic Kingdom and WISHES fireworks from the balcony.

Buzz's_girl

If you want concierge no matter what, I would call and change your reservation, if you wait until you check-in it will only be offered at an addition charge if they have rooms available. Last December I reserved 2 standard view rooms with a great rate. I asked at check-in if concierge was available I was told not for both rooms and not for my lenght of stay. I could have upgraded one room for half my stay, I asked about the amount the CM said for a Standard View Room Booked an addition $70.00 a night: Woods View would be $60.00 a night: Courtyard View would be $50.00 additional a night. This was in value season so it is possable they could charge more during other times.

Sure I'll share, my Dear Friend FloridaCat first told me about the special viewing area on this forum a few years ago.

Take the elevator located near Roaring Fork up to the sixth floor, exit the elevator turning left then another left into the hallway, you will see a group of windows facing North with plantation shutters. Open the shutters and you will have a great view of WISHES The first two widows will have the best view if another family has arrived before you just take the stairs that are right there down to the fifth floor. Same view.

I can't answer your question about the elusive King size rooms that are not handicap-accessible. I have tried but the CM's are always very vague when I have asked, there are some that exist I'm just not sure where they are located...Please post your room # here if you are assigned one of these rare rooms.

Have a MAGICAL TRIP.

ahhhh- please help
DS & I are reserved now for our 1st mother/son WDW vaca this Aug 18-27. Staying at Riverside first 3nights followed by VWL 6nights. Im thinking of switching to BCV so we can use SAB. Was thinking midday breaks from the parks but now Im reading that SAB is sooo crowded that we may not find seats anyways.
We had our first trip "home" to VWL this past Oct. To us it is home - I feel comfortable, DS knows the hotel, etc.
Should we try to get BCV or stay with the Lodge?
DS LOVES Chef Mickey's too and asks for it every trip.

Can anyone tell me what the food offerings are at WL concierge? We are trying to decide between Poly or WL... Thanks

Help me know which view to request, please! We're reserved as Courtyard View. (2 rooms) I was under the impression that there was no chance of seeing MK fireworks. Sounds like I should request MK view? I wonder if the rate will increase?

Otherwise, I was planning to request to be on the ground floor with a room that walked out near the pool or grounds. I thought this would be good for my 4 young sons and nephews. Opinions please?

I haven't read ahead to see if anyone has answered this - but if you're high enough up - you CAN see Wishes in the MAgic Kingdom if you are facing that way - the tree loss from the recent hurricanes has (fortunately/unfortunately) helped that out.

A lower floor room has it's advantages - but I have personally enjoyed the 5th and 7th floors - I like being high up.

There really aren't bad rooms - decide if you'd prefer to see fireworks or watch the pool - the fireworks are for about... 10-15 minutes - the other view is constant - and really is very lovely.... and if you opt for a courtyard view - you can go up to the 6th floor and peek out one of the hallway windows and watch Wishes one night

I think this might be posted elsewhere - but Ijust came back and still have this info in my wallet...

Coffee Service 6:30am - 10:00pm (virtually all day)
Continental Breakfast 7:00am - 10:30 am
Snacks and Refreshments 11:30am - 4:00pm
Wine and Cheese Selections 5:00 - 7:00pm
Cordials and Desserts 8:00 - 10:00

The Breakfast has bagels, croissants, pastries, inividual serving boxes of cereal, juice, milk, coffee, tea (butter, cream cheese, honey, peanutbutter, jelly) - I think that's it.

Snacks - I only glimpsed them once this trip - mostly things like pretzels, mixed nuts, gummi bears and beverages

Wine and Cheese - Cheese platter, veggie platter, crackers, bread (butter)with a wonderful redpepper dip, a different hot soup every night, a different hot entree every night (stews, meat, chicken etc), peanutbutter and jelly uncrustables, soda, water, wine, beer, coffe tea

Cordials and Desserts - Several kinds of cookies, brownies, yummy sweat cookie bars, a hot fruit cobbler (berry, apple) coffee, hot chocolate, milk, tea, wine and about 4 bottles of cordials... Kahlua, Baileys, etc

I think I didn't miss too much...
