The NEW WL FAQ (Part 5) Simbas and Tiggers and Humphreys OH MY!

Hello all,

I was wondering if someone could answer a question for me. I know at AKL they have a special "Romantic Dinner" package for
in-room dining, that includes a full dinner for two and a bottle of wine, for $99 plus tax and tip. I checked Deb Wills site for something similar at WL, but don't see anything. I realize the
in-room menu on her site is over a year old, so I was wondering if anyone who has been there recently can tell me if they have such a package dinner for in room dining?

Thanks, and take care,

Bill

Sorry, I don't know if they have the package dinner available at the Lodge, but the room service at the Lodge is wonderful I just checked the menu and it looks up to date. We have ordered the New York Strip Steak, with buttermilk mashed potatoes and buttered corn/Triple Chocolate Moose Stampede - Kahlua flavored chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling and fudge icing. It arrived hot and was delicious. Hope this information helps...It may be easier to call the Lodge direct and ask for In-Room-Dinning.

Hello Everyone! :wave2:

I was wondering if any of the "courtyard view" rooms overlook the EWP? And if so, which wing would be better? We could see it off our balcony on the concierge level, but wasn't sure if any of the cy view rooms would have that similar view.

Also, has anyone ever been offered the upsell to concierge while checking in during a holiday time? And if so, what was the upsell?

Thanks!!!!

..in the North Wing (court view) and had a pretty good view of EWP. However, you would probably have a better view from the South Wing....JMHO!

We were in Southwing courtyard and had a perfect view. We could also see the MK fireworks. I can't remember our room #, but it was 6th floor almost at the end of the hallway.

On the average, what time have you usually been able to get inot your room? We will have been on the road for over two days and would like a brief rest befroe going to MVMCP. What do you think our chances are of a 1:00 or so check in?

Lou-Ann

I guess I have been lucky 90% of the time when I check-in my rooms have been ready, but I do check in before 11:00am and maybe assigned to rooms that where vacant the night before or the first ones cleaned the morning I'm checking in. :confused3 You just never know.

hhmmm we got there at 2:30 and had to wait til after 3!' but they held our luggage and gave us a # to call from a house phone to see if it was ready...

about the bus to the MK, I prefer the boats, but, there are times of year when the boats can be pretty darn cold especially with the wind.

As for your dates, we are booked for 1/10 to 1/16 so are right behind you!! Too bad we won't be able to meet.

The good news is your dates are within the christmas decoration dates so you will probably see the lodge all decked out for the holidays.

Hi Majestic:wave:

I was going to read the entire thread before posting, but had to respond after this one. I'll be at WDW for the 1/2 Marathon in Jan, arriving 1/7, staying at All Stars for race weekend and am planning on moving to a Deluxe for 1/10-1/13. When my big sister (not a Disney fanatic like all of us) said she needed a get away after the holidays, I invited her to join me for the Delxue portion of my trip. (I'm no fool....shared costs!) The AP rates make WL and AKL the obvious choices.....so here I am, finding out what I can about WL. I've stayed briefly at AKL, loved it, and we will at least visit it (MUST do Boma), but I'm thinking WL will be a bit quieter/more relaxing. (She really wants the hotel portion of the trip to be an escape from big city life.) Do you all agree with that it's a better choice than AKL for that reason?

Next question, when do the holiday decorations come down?

The boat to MK.....is it similar in size/type to the Friendship boats at Epcon/MGM? She sometimes has issues with feeling wobbely, so I'm trying to determine if the boats provide a smooth ride. I've ridden them in early trips and frankly never paid attention.

We're probably going with the standard view (post holiday tight purse strings). If we request a 5th floor room, will the service area issue be less noticible?....or should I convience her to ante up another $25 (each/total) to upgrade to woods view........remember, she asked for relaxing. What is the possibility of a free upgrade to woods view at check-in? I know it happens at ALK, but what about WL?

OK, thanks for bearing with me on this rambling post :hyper: I'm off to finish the thread.

I have been bumped several times to wood..I think if you check in and ask ( I like to whisper...seems kinda Mission Impossible-like to me) "Is it possible that a Woods view is available??"
Maybe it is just me...but they have never turned me down. Maybe they like the Mission Impossible theme I hum while they are looking it up?!?!::yes::

Ok Nut, DisneyDMBNut. James bond is watching you. :)

As far as upgrades go, it never hurts to ask. Even if you whisper. :)

We decided last night to go aheard with booking the woods view, the $$ isn't that much more and we don't want to risk listening to service trucks!

Can anybody tell me about the boats?

Hello! :)

Wilderness Lodge "to me" is the obvious choice if you want to get some peace and quiet. Many people call the resort a vacation away from the parks which is a vacation in itself. I highly recommend it.

I hear that Holiday decorations start coming down the 4th or 5th and when they are completely down depends on the scheduling and progress that the crews make. If I recall correctly, it is all done at night. I would bet that you have a really good chance of seeing decorations at many resorts during your stay if you visit when you first get there.

If I am thinking of the same boats you mention that go to Epcot, I believe that the large boat from WL/FW are larger. At least they appear to be. They make for a really nice ride! It's the only way to get to MK for us!

I already posted about the upgrade. :)

Good luck and let us know if you need any help. My family and I will be at WL from 1/10 to 1/16. :) We are looking forward to our return "home".

Just booked 5 nights at the Wilderness Lodge in late January! We last stayed there in October 2003 and had a great time. The main reason we stayed there then was all the wonderful posts and help that we found here. Would love to have seen the Lodge done in Christmas decorations, but just couldn't make that. We are all excited about going "home" again!

Well...I've heard of an upgrade, but receiving a downgrade??? I had booked a woods view room. We arrived around 1 p.m. on Nov 9. Our room was not ready at that time so we walked around for about a ½ hour. I then purchased a one-day ticket for my 3yo son and the CM informed me our room was ready. We were glad and went right up to the room. It was a bunk bed room that overlooked the roof and the road. What?!? I called immediately down to the front desk and asked them what type room this was. They at first informed me that if I could see any trees it was considered a woods view. I said I saw the tops of trees over the roof and I did not consider this to be a woods view room. The CM put me on hold for a bit and then returned telling me that I had requested bunk beds and that was the only one available. I informed the CM that I had not requested the bunk beds, just a nonsmoking room with a crib. She insisted that I requested bunk beds and I insisted back that I did not! At that point I was a bit ticked and said, "I did not request bunk beds. I paid for a woods view room and that is what I want." Put on hold again and then she came back with an upgrade to a pool view room with 2 queens. That was fine with me so we moved.

It had just started to rain as we arrived but my DH took my 2 boys out to the pool anyway. Me and my 4 mo daughter walked the lobby and relaxed. It really is a beautiful resort. My husband especially liked the decor and all the theming. However, sadly I have to admit, I must be a Yacht Club girl at heart. It just wasn't the same for me. There is nothing there that I can say is bad at all, just the overall feeling inside me. It makes sense to me...my husband is a camping/Adirondacks man and I am a resort/beach girl. How did we ever hook up (ha)?

Glad to hear that you will be returning "home" as well.

We are going mid January and can't wait!! :)

Disneyholic,

We encountered the same problem during our trip last December. We were put in a Bunk Bed room overlooking the Service area. I, like you, didn't request, nor did I want bunk beds and called the front desk before the bellhop even moved our luggage. We were moved to a Woods view the next day.

Glad it all worked out in the end. As for being a Yacht / Beach Club girl - that's why Disney is so great, they have a little something for everyone.
